The 2000 Scuzzidential race has already started. Dozens of people have already put their brag sheets on the net. I include them all here for your amusement - and yes, they will remain up at least until it's over. If you're disgusted with your options (and you should be) I want to remind you of what could have been.
L. Neil Smith's Webley Page declares that a candidate's position on guns is the key determinant of his attitude towards The People. Against gun ownership? Doesn't trust the people. Favors controlled gun ownership? Still doesn't trust The People. So why should you trust him?
To settle the question for you, I am posing it to all of them. Today I have written a letter to all of their campaign chiefs asking the simple question:
What is your candidate's position on guns?
This says all it needs to say and is ambiguous enough that they can't tell what my position is, and so can't give me a tailored answer. The answers will be posted below each candidate's link - if they answer. The date of reply and number of times I had to repeat the question will also be posted.
Today is Sunday, May 2, 1999.

"My gun control philosophy is simple: before we go passing new gun control laws, let's use the ones that are already on the books. I supported the original assault weapons ban, but before we amend it or expand it we should properly enforce the laws we already have on the books and look to emply innovative solutions when addressing gun-related crimes.
"I'm excited about the success of Project Exile in Richmond, Virginia, where under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Attorney's Office if the police catch a criminal with a gun during a crime the criminal forfeits their right to remain in the community, faces immediate prosecution and stiff mandatory Federal prison sentences.
"The program is endorsed by the NRA and Sarah Brady on behalf of Handgun Control Inc. And more importantly, homicides in Richmond were reduced by 40% and armed robberies by 30% just a year after Project Exile was instituted. Project Exile has been such a success that Rochester, NY and Philadelphia, PA have adopted similar programs and Baton Rouge, LA, Birmingham, AL and San Francisco, CA are ready to begin similar programs."
