What exactly is involved in the creation of a spell?
How are magical folk physically different from muggles? That is, what is the basis for their being magical?
How does magic work, exactly? (And please don't say "midi-chlorians!")
What was Sibyll Trelawney's "first real prediction" that Dumbledore spoke of? And was this the reason he hired her? And if Divination is mostly (or entirely) a load of crap, why even have the class?
Just how many teachers are there at Hogwarts, anyway?
We know Hogwarts has athletic teams just like any other school, so why has there been no mention (so far) of a band, glee club, theater society, choir or any of the other usual school groups? Hermione at least has "band geek" written all over her, and probably actress, diva and debate club goddess as well.
What exactly is the connection between Dumbledore and World War II? We know he "defeated a dark wizard in 1945" and one would assume this was Hitler or some wizard backing Hitler, but a few details would be most appreciated.
If good wizards fought against Hitler, why didn't they do anything about Stalin, a much greater criminal (yes, friends, Stalin was worse than Hitler)??
Do house-elves sleep, and if so, where?
Do house-elves have sex? Winky spoke of her mother but that doesn't have to mean sexual reproduction. If they do Do It, do they fall in love? Is there jealousy? Can they get married? Do they want to?
Just where do house-elves come from anyway?
Can muggles see the Hogwarts Express as it goes by? That is, is the entire track invisible or just Plaform 9.75? And for that matter, where does the transition from hidden to visible occur, so that it doesn't raise any eyebrows?
Why has Arabella Figg pretended to be a doddering old biddy to Harry since he was born, never revealing her true abilities even after he went to school? It seems a bit extreme when she could have been a great friend and asset to him.
Who were Lily's parents, and what were they like?
Did Lily or James have any other brothers or sisters? The books only say that Aunt Petunia is Harry's "only living relative" but they don't say how many DEAD relatives he might have. Could it be Petunia only survived because she was a muggle, and therefore of no interest to Voldemort?
What's the real scoop on Dumbledore and McGonegal? They seem to have a connection that is more than professional. Are they lovers or even (GULP) married? Is she his daughter? Enquiring minds want to know!
Who teaches arithmancy, and if it's so much more accurate than Divination why isn't it a required course?
How do they teach Apparation to 7th years when Apparating and Disapparating are impossible on Hogwarts school grounds?
It would be beyond belief if no Hogwarts students ever had sex. How does the school handle this? Are there some charms preventing it, or at least preventing pregnancy? (If not there should be - about the pregnancy that is.)
Does Hogwarts also teach the normal stuff like English, math, etc.??
After Hogwarts ... well, are there wizarding colleges and stuff like that? We always hear that Charlie Weasley is "studying dragons in Romania" but to what purpose? Is he getting paid? If not, how does he live?
AFTER HOGWARTS II: a better question would be, what sort of jobs do wizards and witches have? We know about a few already - teacher, charm-breaker (Bill) shop keeper, cottage-level craftsmanship of nearly everything, journalist (implying publisher) and the apparently inescapable government bureaucrat. Are there jobs wizarding folk never take, because the can't or won't?
Where was Sirius in the early part of Book 4, when he sent a letter to Harry via tropical bird? The tropics are often referred to as "sunny places for shady people." Does this mean he was doing something shady, whether dishonest or (more likely) just illegal (like being a fugitive)??
We know there are potions that can heal, potions that can harm and potions that can deceive the mind. What about potions just to get high on? Are there magical drinks you can get in a bar that are more powerful or have more specific effects than alcohol? It would seem to be a tremendously profitable business, and it would be hard to believe if nobody ever tried it.
