Alternative Uses for CDs

I've finally found a way to use all those CDRoms that arrive in the mail and just pile up. I kept on collecting them, hoping that some day I would come up with a use for them.

Then one day while in a computer store I saw a CD clock that sold for C$15.--. I looked closely at it and then decided that I could do that myself for a fraction of the price. When clockworks came on sale at the local craft store I bought a couple and went to work. The first one was just the CD and the clockwork. My daughter liked it so much that she took it. The one I use as an example is mine. I like pyramids and gave the clock a triangular background that I've painted with paint that looks like sand. Now there are only so many clocks you can use in your house, so I was still looking for inspiration for other uses of the CDs.

Well, the August 97 Issue of "Crafts"n Things"™ offered me the idea I've been waiting for. I've always wondered how to paint a CD. The instructions in the "Crafts'n Things" said to mix the paint with multi-purpose sealer. I didn't have any at hand, but I had "podge". It didn't say in what ratio to mix the acrylic paint with the podge so I just tried it out. I've used a 50:50 ratio and it seems to work great.

I've used a small drill bit with my cordless drill to drill holes for attaching a cord to hang the CD. I used small beads to block the cord from slipping when looped through the holes.

This use of CDs now has also solved my problem of what to do with my glue gun figures and the another sugar angel. For the "Duck CD" I glued a picture on a duck shape that I had cut out from a styrofoam meat tray.
