I look at you
and I see
That we are from two separate worlds
distant universes apart.

Afraid to touch
afraid to know each other
We hide in our cloaks of silence
and our painted masks of laughter.

Yet sometimes
there are glimpses of understanding
And a light in your eyes
that tells me that you know
what I long to be.

Forgetting for the while
our differences
We come together in a solemn promise
not to remember how we need
these times together.

Tomorrow -- I will remember
the differences and laugh
For now they have melted from my mind
And I see what I should have always known

That our two separate worlds
are truly one.

And our differences
are only sameness --
