Sit down confortably with your eyes closed.
Bring a mantra such as "Om ah hum" into your consciousness. Start
repeating it. Start slow, and you will naturally speed up. This
exericise lasts for ten mintues. If you are chanting outloud, you
may run out of breath. This is natural.
Stop as needed. Gradually, you will be able to bring your breathing
and chanting togther. Don't force this, it will come. As you recite
your mantra, you may find that you relax into the sound, your breath
and attention joining in a natural and powerful was. This is a good
sign, and sign of awareness.
Repeat your matra for 5 mintues.
As you reach the end of your mantra period, it is good to slow down,
not stop suddenly.
After you have ceased repetions, sit quietly and sttentively. Make
note of the feeling in you body and mind.
Some reported feelings are cleansing, healing.
This meditation was taken (not word for word) from the book The Best
Guide to Meditation, by Victor Davich.
