SCENE 1

A sweeping shot over a pre-dawn scene of a small village
by the side of a dam. The sky is clouded over. There
is the sound of occasional chirping crickets. We swap
shots to a fisherman-type riding to the lake on a
bicycle, wearing a grizzled Denver Broncos cap. He
whistles as he pedals to a bait-shop, and goes in. A
bell rings as he enters. The shop owner looks up as he
prepares the shop for the day.

Shop owner: ‘Morning Jim. (returns to work)
Jim: ‘Morning Mick. Two dozen worms, thanks. (Mick
begins to get the worms. Jim gestures out the window)
Looks like the good weather’s ended.
 Mick: It sure does.
 Jim: Yep.
There is a pause as Mick hands over the worms. Jim pays
 him.
Mick: Thankyou. Take care out there by the dam.
Jim: Oh, come on. I’ll be alright. (they both laugh)
Jim leaves. Mick continues unpacking, and puts a pile
of newspapers on the bench. Close-up on headline
 “Severe weather conditions predicted”.
We follow Jim on his bike as he pedals to the dam side
and parks his bike and takes off his hat. He whistles
as he casts out. The sun begins to rise as a few spots
of rain begin to hit the far side of the lake. A few
 birds begin to sing.

Jim: (reaches for hat, which is slightly out of reach)
 Damn. (continues fishing)
The rain gets heavier and closer. Perhaps there is the
distant sound of thunder. Jim frowns and reels in
slowly. The crickets stop chirping and the birds stop
singing. He stops whistling. We hear a small
explosion, followed by another and another. Jim squints
out at the lake, where a small area of the dam appears
to be faintly alight with fire. The wind begins to
blow, and the front of explosions grows closer and
closer, with the sounds now becoming quite audible.
 Jim: Holy Christ.
He slips and falls in the dam. He quickly gets up and
grabs his bicycle. He pedals as quickly as he can,
slipping occasionally, away from the lake, where the
explosions grow larger and larger. It is now pouring
rain. Jim is knocked off his bike by a massive
explosion as the rain hits a barrel full of water. He
stumbles on, running close to the ground, tripping over,
with the rain just behind him. He slips in a puddle of
water and lands on his back, watching the rain approach
 him.
Jim: Nooooo! (He rolls up and covers his face)
Cut to a wide shot as there is a massive explosion that
rocks the village, and pan across to zoom in on Jim’s
cap, as it is pelted by rain.
