Shirley is the great-grand niece of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. She lives in Redington with her Gran and her father. Shirley is a British diplomat's daughter, and has moved around since she was little. She now attends Sussex Academy, a prestigious private school, in Redington. She is very inquisitive, quick thinking, and incredibly straightforward. Shirley tends to view almost everything as facts or evidence, which sometimes results in her looking a bit silly towards Bo or her other friends. Both she and Bo usually remain calm during a case, no matter how wild things get. Shirley can't take no for an answer; according to Bo "the words 'none of your business' do not compute." However, Shirley manages to have a number of friends who will always stand by her, no matter what.
Bo is probably Shirley's best friend, and her "Dr Watson". His real name is Francis Boris Sawchuk, but if anyone calls him that, they're in trouble. Bo is an ex-gang member who started at Sussex Academy as a last-ditch effort before reform school. Since then, he's stayed right out of trouble--except when he's with Shirley on a case. Bo is always loyal to Shirley, and his other friends, and when Shirley gets caught up in a case, he helps keep her down to reality. He has a quick sense of humour, usually directed towards lightening up a situation, but often it's lost on Shirley (especially if the joke's directed at her). Bo, like Shirley, is very adamant to anyone that asks that he and Shirley are just friends. It's taken him a while, but he's become almost as quick thinking as Shirley, and is often crucial to solving the mystery.
Molly is a popular girl at Sussex Academy. She has most of the staff and student body of Sussex wrapped right around her little finger: except for Shirley and Bo. Molly is very smart (she has an I.Q. of 160), but as yet she has not managed to completely outwit Shirley. She is Shirley's "Moriarity", challenging her, and playing games--Molly's style of games. She has been proven to be a sociopath, and is often ruthless in what she does. Everything she becomes involved in is quickly twisted around so that it benfits her, no matter who else gets hurt in the process. Molly has been seen in a few moments of vulnerability, (namely "Maestro's Ghost") but being caught off guard in that way has only strengthened her resolve against Shirley.
Sterling "Stink" Patterson is known at Sussex as the class clown. Whether it's whoopee cushions, ghosts, or just creating general confusion, Stink's always there for a good laugh. He loves to pull pranks on the girls living in the dorms, no matter what price he has to pay afterwards. Even though his dad lives in Redington, Stink prefers to live at Sussex, probably because of the cafeteria food. Stink has had a huge crush on Molly for quite a while, and even though he has seen her true nature, he persists in believing that nothing is her fault, and that it's all because no one understands her. Though he may like to hang around Molly, Stink is one of Shirley's good friends, and is always around--especially if he's *not* needed!
Alicia is one of Shirley's best friends, and another classmate at Sussex. She boards at the school, and if you ask her, it's not the best place to live. She hates it when things start to get creepy, and with Stink also living in the dorms, things get creepy quite often. Alicia seems to have had run-ins with most of Shirley's mysteries. Shirley lived with her when the "Maestro's Ghost" showed up, the "Ruby Ring" mystery practically centred around her, and with the "Second Tape", it was her set that was always sabotaged. And that's just to name a few. Alicia works at the popular hangout, the Quazar Cafe, and always has to have the new look. Whether it's flashy clothes on a shopping spree, or mud and grime on a case, Alicia's always there....unless of course, there's a sale at the mall.
Bartholomew James is one of the smarter students at Sussex. But, he prefers to write many of his assignments on the paranormal, which almost always gets the teachers on his case. Bart is a bit too interested with all things remotely involving the possibilities of alien life, but his willingness and eagerness make him a great person to have around on a case. If a case starts getting a little far out, you can bet that Bart's involved. If nothing else, he's good for the occasional one-liner. :)
Parker....hmm, we don't really know all too much about him. He seems very quiet, and willing to let Molly push him around. But the rest of the kids seem to like him.
