11 years.
Sara sat in her workshop staring over a drawing she had sketched for the theater. It was a nice costume but not one of her favorites. The theater company she worked for was going to be performing William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and she had been struggling with the design of Isabella's dress. Sighing to her self she put the drawing in her case and decided to take it home with her, maybe she would have better ideas away from the shop. Besides it was 11 at night and she had been working on the design since early morning. As she walked out to her car she shivered a bit from the frosty night air. Turning on the heater in the car, she started her drive home.
As she pulled into the driveway of her house a dog barked welcoming her home. Merlin, an old dog now, barked loudly and ran out of the house towards her car. Still filled with energy despite his age. Sara unlocked the door and went inside with Merlin close at foot. She had left the TV on to give company to her dog while she worked all day. There was a video on suprisingly. MTV had played so few now adays. One of her favorite songs was on, Little Wonder. She liked the video but something odd struck her about the singer, she shrugged it off as usual and stepped into the kitchen to make some cocoa.
After her cocoa Sara turned off the TV and headed to bed. Merlin followed close behind and took his usual spot.....right on Sara's pillows.
Outside something scratched at Sara's window, it was the old tree. Always when it was stormy out it would tap and scratch at Sara's window.Sometimes it was quite maddining. As usual She tried her best to ignore it. She shut her eyes, cuddled up to her favorite childhood friend and sighed......
Alone again, Jareth spent much time in the solitude and company of his goblin subjects. The human girl that had asked him to take away her young brother began to become a distant memory and he knew that without her he would surely lose what was left of his own humanity and become one of the wretched little goblins that he ruled over. Jareth after long contemplation decided he would leave his kingdom and go once again into the girls world, and TAKE her back with him, he knew he could make the girl love him and make her forget, forget everything about her previous life.
Finally the time came for him to make his journey, shapeshifting into a splendid white owl, he flew off on a long journey. Making his way through the night as an owl wasn't as lighthearted as it used to be, he found his thoughts looming over how he loved to fly and how ruling the Goblin city had encroached on him, making him like a goblin and so much unlike a beautiful owl, with this thought a very small tear fell from his eye and the tear sailed down towards the earth far below, a perfect crystal tear... He swiftly flew toward his destination. Soon upon reaching the same window sill in that same room,he fluttered against the window doing his best to cause a ruckus sizable enough for Sarah to notice, not a stir came from within. On closer inspection the inside of the house looked nothing like it used to, then, he realized the girl no longer lived here. At the thought he began to feel a strange breaking in his heart, it ached for the girl and she was nowhere to be found, she was not there to fear him... Good God, how long had it been since the girl left his kingdom!? 11 years had passed and the girl had long since left this house... Jareth knew exactly what he had to do, to turn time backwards and find the girl once again. With a toss of a small crystal ball all time stopped...
What do you think? The second part of the story was actually written before the first. 3 years ago I sent it to the Labyrinth Fan-fic list, where it still resides all these years later in their archives, I used to be scoundrel2 on the list. I knew it was around someplace and wanted to add it here, it fits perfectly with the first part of the story. I have done a bit of editing and adding to the second part, You wont notice it unless you read the original all those years back but it's there! :). Please let me know what you think, constructive criticizm (and compliments I hope) are always welcome!
