So you wanted to know about the sometime silent people of Geocities, called Community Leaders. Have you ever received an e-mail from one of us? Odds are if you have not you will sooner or later.

Community Leaders are the people behind the Geocities greatness. While the upper staff member have the major responsibilities within Geocities, the CL's are the eyes of them. While we volunteer our time to scan homepages,  we also play a major roll in keeping up with the changing times of the net, all the Geocities Guidelines, and above all help out our fellow homesteaders with their questions ranging from simple help to major questions about everything you could imagine about webpage construction, and up keep.
While there may not be the glory that some JOBS may have it is the satisfaction we get in seeing homesteaders improve their sites and the accomplishments they achieve with a little guidance.
How many times have you had a question on how do something at Geocities buy either did not know who to ask or how to go about even finding someone to ask ? Well that is what the CL's are for. We are not hard to find, but you also have to have a basic idea where to start looking. The help pages is a good start. You could even go as far as doing a search within Geocities. Ever try some of the links within the file manager ? Bet you haven't. There is also the chat forums and help forums. While most homesteaders either don't care, not eager enough to look, or did not know we even existed. Some do though.

Like I have said earlier we volunteer our time. We don't get paid in any way. We do this because we care. Not just about Geocities, but also care about you. Our fellow homesteaders. Like you we want our sites to look the best they can. Even we do not have all the answers but we have each other and someone will have the answer your looking for.

I have just joined this wonderful group of people myself. I have learned more about Geocities in the past month than I knew the nearly two years I have been here. I have seen Geocities grow from a decent size webpage hosting community to one of the largest ones on the internet. The size of our sites grow from 1 meg to the now 11 megs. Yes Geocities has grown faster than even the people who came up with ever imagined. Now we find ourselves in a shortage of people who are willing to donate some of their time to assist others in creating a homepage of their own. Along with making sure that the current and new members adhere to the Geocities Guide Lines set by Geocities for Content of the sites. Myself I have an assigned block of 1000 sites to scan and answer all the questions of these homesteaders. Please do keep that in mind the next time you receive an e-mail from one of us, and either take offense to what is said, or just dismiss it. CL's do not send out e-mail to homesteaders and inform you of any type of violation because they have nothing better to do than that. It is also part of our responsibilities. Be kind and respond. You never know. Someday down the road you may be the one needing help or sending out an e-mail to fellow homesteaders.

Do you think you have what it takes to be a CL? Do like to help people out ? Think you could spare a bit of time ? Geocities could use you. While a decent background in webpage construction, updating, and knowledge is really needed, you also have to have a bit of self motivation to. Knowing what Geocities is all about, how to find information, how to use that information, how to direct others to find it, and the willingness to do e-mail. If that is you sign up. Take the training course. Now I can imagine what some of the people who may read this might be thinking. Training ? I don't need training. I can do a simple webpage in a snap. It is more than just creating a webpage. It is knowing the in's and out's of Geocities. The rules, guide lines, page content and how to conduct yourself as a Community Leader. Remember you are not representing yourself, but Geocities as a whole. Did I mention keeping your own site up to date and links correct? hahaha sorry about that. Yes that as well as making sure your site is right, the theme fits the neighborhood you are in, as well all images working also.

I bet right now you may be saying what is the point of this page ! Well put briefly it is to make you either visitors from Geocities or visitors from outside Geocities aware of the wonderful people behind Geocities. Why when you come to visit sites within Geocities they are the BEST. Maybe find that next person to be willing to take on a challenge and become one of the few, the proud, a Geocities Community Leader :) Below there are links for you if you wish to browse a bit of Geocities that maybe you have not and while you are there go for it. Sign up and start your training :)
