Narraguagus(Pond)Island Light President Franklin Pierce authorized the construction of the lighthouse in 1853, to mark the entrance to Millbridge Harbor. The light was located at the top of the keeper's house and later 3 acres were bought from a local farmer. In 1878 a clubhouse and inn were built and a golf course was added in 1920. Discontinued in 1934, the outbuildings, lighthouse and five acres were sold at auction and are now privately owned.
