My Sweetie

About him and our relationship

I first met my current boyfriend Ashley at summer camp last year. The camp started on Sunday and we met on Tuesday morning. We were introduced through an old friend of his, and a cabinmate of mine, but it wasn't a set up, we were just introduced to be introduced. The first thing I noticed about him was his hair, how i loved his hair. It was blond and curly, going a little below his ears.

Well, that night there was a dance, i didn't really want to, so i stayed in the game room and played thuse (i know that's not how you spell it but, it is how you pronounce it) ball with a bunch of guys. Well, Ashley and another friend of mine were on my team, and some others on the other side. We ended up winning everytime, taking Germany as our symbol (the other guy on our team was taking german). From then on, Ashley and I were inseperable, only the notorious Mason Dixon line (the invisible line seperating the boys cabins from the girls cabins) kept us apart.

I especially remember the night that the camp hiked up the mountain (for some reason i wasn't with him but my German enthusiast friend), when we got there, Ashley, I, German guy and some friends who came to camp with Ashley were playing Egyptian Rat Screw, a card game which I don't remember how to play at all. Him and i were out first and talked until it was campfire time. I think subconsiously, that was the turning point for us. I was so very disappointed that there were no stars out (it was really cloudy) but he told me just to look at my star shoelaces. It started raining and he gave me his pullover, which i wore but not wanting to get it wet when i slept, i pulled it into my sleeping bag. i barely saw him the next morning, unfortuanately i was followed down by a very annoying guy who had a crush on me ("yo yo zoe's in the house" was often heard from his lips, and i think it all started because i complimented him, which just illustrates the importance of making others feel good and making it a regular thing because if not, when they get a compliment they will become a little too attached, i'll try to explain this more later if i have time) well, i hurridly ate breakfast, only seeing Ashley while scarfing down a pancake so as to rush for a shower. that day we talked quite a bit on a bus trip, showing the many interests we shared.

well, on friday night, the last night, there was a big candlelite ceremony, beforehand, Ashley handed me a paper with an 800 # on it saying that if i ever needed anything at all that i should call and gave me a hug. that night as we passed eachother, he winked at me, i can still picture it in my mind.

the next day, my parents drove me over to my sisters so we could feed her cat, which coincidentally is the town he lived in, then we went home so i could do laundry and come again the next week for another week of camp to which Ashley was not going.

That week I got a short letter with him, with a picture from romeo + juliet in it, which he knew i loved from our bus conversation. that night as a part of the camp, we were to write in journals. in mine i wrote that i thought that i loved him as a friend. well, after camp we started writing and calling.

i visited him once and we agreed to volunteer as councelors for under privelaged children at the same camp in july the same week. as a gift, i gave him a framed picture of me and the journal from my second week at camp, and he gave me the luscious jackson cd which i had wanted, and a little from the book he was writing. in august, i went to some college classes with my sister, and spent every other minute with Ashley. At the end of that week, on the last day, the last night, in perhaps the last hour, although it was never really stated, we were going out. He visited me for his birthday, and i went down for a festival, meeting some of his friends and relatives to whom i was introduced as his girlfriend. I visited during Thanksgiving, Christmas and this last Valentine's Day. On the 20th of February, we had our 6 month anniversery apart.

I have never seen a relationship quite like ours. It is definately not the stereotypical teenage relationship. I have spent almost $1000 on phone bills, and he a few hundred. We write constantly and have been planning our future life for quite a while. On my last visit, we found the perfect place for us, an english tudor house. even as friends we were to get married at 40 if neither of us were. Little did i know that he liked me from the moment he saw me, on the first day of camp, Sunday night, before we even knew eachother. We are so wonderful for eachother, we are such marvellous people. It may sound like much, but if you were to see us together, you would see it. We are perfect for eachother, and he is the greatest person i know. Every day since we've been going out, I've worn a special necklace. Way back in august he got me a necklace with a dolphin on it, and that night at the local college's gazebo, we found an "A" which he put on me and ive worn ever since. if i could go into more detail perhaps i could make you see how wonderful we are for eachother and together, but i wouldn't know where to start, all i know is that i love him deeply, as he does me.
