So poor! So cold!....Wind! Snow! and Ice!
Life, during winter, was not very nice!
Our friend, who'd travelled, in the Arctic, so far away,
Told, how an Eskimo keeps warm, each cold day!
We were freezing! Not able to cope!
His description, of an igloo, gave us new hope!
Our small daughter liked this "igloo idea", too!
For a small child, this was something quite new!
Nine feet, of deep snow! A door away from the wind!
Warm clothes! A straw and canvas floor!
Oil lantern, food, blankets and we could move in!
We dug a big room! Put six, small holes, in the roof,
Moved in and found, this home was "cold proof"!
Soon, curiosity flourished, everywhere around,
School children and neighbours came, from the town!
Even the Police! They just wanted to see,
How we were surviving....my family and me!
We'd all laugh, sing and drink coffee, each day,
Life was such fun....our igloo, a new way,
To turn the cold and dismal, into such a delight,
Secure and warm, as we slept every night!
The Regina newspaper made us into celebrities, too,
But, warm days threatened and we all knew,
We must return, to the old house, once again,
A house, that wouldn't melt, in the warm Spring rain!
Our kids...gone now...never forgot, the snow house and plans,
The wonderful igloo we built, with our own, eager hands!!

I have no desire, to live in an igloo. I prefer the comforts, of a modern
home. I guess I would have loved it, as a child. It would have been
different. It would have been fun, having visitors....laughter and
songs....like a party every day. My mother would not have agreed, with
this
idea.
