Our Basketball Trip to Cuba!

Every second year, the Parkland Pacer girls basketball team goes on a major trip. A lot of hard work and fundraising helps us to go on the trip. We do things like collect bottles and cans, run a concession for local slow-pitch tournaments, and pick garbage (eeeww). It seems like a lot of work at the time, but when we are on the plane, it is all worth it. You might be wondering where we are going this year. I'm not going to tell you that yet. First I am goint to tell you about our trip in 1996.

Okay, on December 14, 1996, 12 of us started our journey to Hawaii. We landed in Honalulu at about 8:00pm that day, and we were all very excited to finally be there. We spent 8 days and 7 nights in Hawaii and we did a variety of things. We climbed up a volcano, visited Pearl Harbour, went to a Luau, and even tried surfing. It was very hot there, and unfortunately, most of us got a little sunburnt!

We played 3 games of basketball against 3 different Hawaiian teams and we got our butt kicked by all three! Of course, there were no hard feelings between us and them, just a little embarassment on our part! The teams were all very nice and after each game, we exchanged small gifts with eachother. That is us and one of the teams below. We came home on December 21, 1996.

Overall, the trip was an outstanding experience, and the best way I have ever spent my Christmas holidays! I just hope that our next trip will exceed my expectations as much as this one did!

On December 14, 1998, again, we will be leaving on another trip. This time, it is a little further away. Instead of staying in North America, we have decided to go to Cuba. Our choices of places to go this year, was either to Cuba or to California. I would have been very satisfied with either, but I'm glad we are going to Cuba. We will be leaving on December 14th and again, returning on December 21. Instead of only playing 3 games of basketball, we will be having 5 days! I don't know if that is good news, but I think I would rather be out sight-seeing or swimming, than being stuck in a stinky school gym for five out of eight days we will be there. That is about it for news on our trip, but as more news is made, I will surely report it back on here. Thank you.
