MY STORY

My name is Chineze Butler and I'm a 19 year old wife and mother. Me and my husband decided to get married before we found out I was pregnant but that was what made us do it so early. My husband is currently enrolled in the United States Army as a way of helping us make a good life for ourselves and the baby. I found out I was pregnant when I was 3 months along. I attended all of my prenatal appointments and ended up having a pretty much healthy pregnancy. My husband was not yet in the Army so I had to get on the system to pay for my prenatal appointments and other things. We got married in June of 1998 when I was 8 months pregnant. I had Arielle exactly one month after that on July 10. Since she's been born life really hasn't been that much harder but I know it won't be long before that changes!!! Arielle Aiyana Butler was 6 pounds 3 ounces when she was born and was 20 inches tall. I had a hospital birth with IV drugs but no epidural. Many people say you should get an epidural but I don't think so. Anyway right now I'm living with my mother, waiting for my husband to come back from boot camp.

Arielle's birth:
For about 2 weeks I was having small but bothering contractions! Everytime I went to the doctor he would say "It's not time yet". My last appointment was on Jul 7, I was 2 cm. dilated. They scheduled my next one for Jul 14, 1 day after my due date. I told the nurse I hopfully wouldn't be back! 2 days went by and I was still having the annoying but small contractions. A friend said that walking might help so I started walking around my apartment for 30 mins. at a time. Finally on July 9th at about 11:30 p.m. I had the worst pain in my stomache, legs, back, and butt that I'd ever felt! At the time I was on the phone talking to my 8 months pregnant cousin. She swore up and down that it was time but I didn't believe it. My husband came home around 12:30 from work and by then I had more 2 pains. They were so far apart I didn't even bother to time them. Around 1:00 they started coming like every 10 mins. It hurt so bad I couldn't even sit down. But I refused to go to the hospital and be sent back home. Plus it was 1 a.m. and I didn't want to wake my mother up. So I said if it was still hurting when she got up to go to work at 6:30 I'd have her drop me off at the hospital. I think maybe it was about 20 mintues later the pains started coming every 5 mins. So me, my husband and my mom were up getting ready to go! I was the first one ready and I couldn't understand why it was taking them so long! We left for the hospital and I got in a fight with my mom because I wanted to be in the backseat of the car on all 4's because I couldn't sit down with the pain! After going the wrong way, running red lights, and parking and walking all the way up to a locked entranced on the wrong side of the building, I was finally in the hospital waiting to be seen. After waiting my 30 mins they finally saw me and I was in so much pain and at 5 cms. dilated. So they said they'd admit me. I told them no matter what I didn't want an epidural so they gace me Stadol (a IV drug). After that I was laughing and having a good time until I got to 9 cm. It hurt so bad and then I got the urge to push but the nurse kept saying it wasn't time and leaving the room. So after a while I started screaming her name at the top of my lungs for her to come back in there and check me. When she checked I really was ready to push. As the doctors came in and started getting their utensils set up I just started pushing on my own because they were taking to long. By the time the doctor actually got into place I had the head almost out. Her head was pushing down on my perrinal

It's been a while since I've added anything to my story so I decided to do it today. Arielle is now almost 3 months old and getting bigger and bigger! At her last doctors appt. she weighed 11 pounds! We went to South Carolina to see her father graduate from boot camp. Thet was very emotional since he hasn't seen her since she was almost 1 month old. We really enjoyed that trip. Anyway, now he's in Advanced Individual Training and we have until January before we're actually stationed somewhere. I'll be sure to let you know when I move!!!
