Adding Background Images

Can my GeoCities web page have a background? How can I make a nice image that I have the background of my web page? This and similar questions will be answered in this tutorial.

PROCEDURES

1. If the image you want to become your page's background is stored somewhere in the world wide web, download them to your hard disk.

2. Upload the image from your hard disk to your GeoCities homestead.

3. Edit the HTML code of the file where you want your background image to appear.

Since this tutorial is under the intermediate section, we presume that you're already familiar with uploading and downloading files as well as editing HTML pages -- topics that have been discussed in the basics section. If you're not familiar with them, please click on the links below. Do note that the tutorials referred to by these links will all appear in a new browser window.

WARNING It is essential that you have understood the contents of all the tutorials above before you embark with the rest of this tutorial.

In this tutorial, we will discuss the code necessary for you to successfully add a background image to a HTML file. You must include the codes in the body of the HTML file where you want your background image to appear.

NOTE GeoCities supports the following graphic file types: BMPs (bitmaps), GIFs, JPEGs and TIFFs. However, we strongly encourage you to use only GIFs and JPEGs -- the standard world wide web graphics file types -- in your web pages.

NOTE Before continuing, make sure that the background image you want to display in your web page has already been uploaded to your GeoCities homestead. Though it is possible to display a background image in your web page that is not present in your homestead and is still in another site in the world wide web, it is more proper and safer that you have the background image file in your homestead.
