Rockfest '97

On my June 21, 1997, my fifteenth birthday I went to Rockfest, the biggest concert that I have ever been to in my life. It was at the Texas Motor Speedway and the grounds streched across the Speedway's width with over a mile between the grandstands and the stage. I have heard reports of how many people were there ranging everywhere from 150,000 to 400,000, even though from what I saw I would be leaning closer to the 400,000 people end of the spectrum. But no matter what the exact number of people actually showed up(which no one knows because no one was counting at the entrances) there were ALOT of people. The reason there were so many people is that tickets were practically free. At first, Blockbuster had a promotion where every 10 dollars you spent at their stores you got a free ticket. Then as it got closer to the show tickets were everywhere. Every cd store I went to had stacks of them lying out for free. So anyways back to my experience. I went with my best friend at the time, Angela and a some guy (I can't even remember his name). We were going and then meeting up with many other of our friends once we got there (many of these friends I never saw). So when we first got there of course we walked right to the stage and soon an opening band called Souls started. I didn't like them that much as the lead singer was this really trashy girl that was annoying. But we stayed anyway.

Pictures of the day(I didn't take these so I'm not sure what all of these are of)

This was the huge stage that all the bands played on

Here is a picture that is taken from the gradstands...see that ittty bitty square of black on the left hand corner? That's the stage.

Here's another view from the grandstands and you can see where the stage is in relation. There were huge screens so the people in the grandstands could see what was going on about a mile away at the stage. The grandstands were also much taller than where this picture was taken there were still a couple of flights of stairs to go till you go to the top.

This is one of the bands that was there...Their name is Soak and they are cool!
