-it's a hell of a lot cheaper
-it's close to where I live
-It can have great hors piste, if the snow conditions are OK. L'Index is great when there's powder on it.
OK, so it's good for three reasons...picky, picky...
La "Combe Lachenal" was a great off-piste (now it is groomed...) which is often closed due to avalanche risks.
When it is open , it is a marvellous off-piste offering a great view of the Mont-Blanc range.
There are numerous ways to access it, and the scope for different runs is enormous!
The off-pistes on the Right of "L'Index" are more challenging, and very varied. You go where you wanna go!
The run that goes all the way down to the bottom is very long and tiring. Expert skiers only.
The slope of 60% is exagerated. It's still pretty tricky though and quite often in
terrible condition, even when it's closed!
There is now a new cable car which joins up the Brevent and the Flegere. The ticket for both resorts is more expensive then the single resort ticket, but then, you get two resorts! It's only really worth it if you're going to ski the whole day, otherwise you won't have the time to visit both!
