Relax 'zine #2 - interviews
Misery Loves Co.
Misery Loves Co
Beginning life in January 1993, MISERY LOVES CO. are comprised of Patrik
Wiren on vocals and Orjan Ornkloo on programming and guitar. The former
has a moretraditional metal past, most notably in Midas Touch, who
released one album for Noise Records, whilst the latter worked with a
number of local bands in his native Uppsala. For the live line up, the
duo are joined by Jim Edwards on guitar, Marre Ericksson on bass and
Olle Dahlstedt on drums. In June '93 MLC began with an appearance on the
"Extreme Close Up" compilation with the track "Sonic Attack" and then
released an EP "Private Hell" in January of 1994. Contacted by MNW
Zone due to the interest in the swedish underground, MLC released the
debut album "Misery Loves Co." in October 1994. Earache immediately
became interested in the Misery sound, and swiftly negotiated a deal to
licence the band for most European territories. The re-release of the
awesome debut through Earache followed in March. Ending an amazing '95
with a lengthy European tour with Paradise Lost, the band released a
double CD package including the US promo CD for "Need Another One",
featuring remixes by the likes of Killing Joke, Pitch Shifter and
Technohead. A German special edition boasted remixes by Clawfinger and
Technohead.
Patrick:
1) What's the complete MLC discography ?
This one is actually quite hard since there's been so many promos and
compilations released with misery for the last 2 years. The main albums
is the debut and the "Happy" miniCD though. We also have an otherwise
unreleased track called "Honour code loyalty" on the compilation album
"Corporate Rock Wars" (Earache)
2) Describe your music....
More than metal....
3) Have you some side-projects ?
At the moment, our drummer Olle is the only one who has a side project.
He plays in a band called MINE and sounds a bit like MISSION.
4) Talk about the lyrics. Who wrote them ? Why in the CD booklet the
order is inverted ?
I write all the lyrics and thought the way of just
using parts of 'em in the booklet was a more interesting way of doing
it. It sort of sum up the whole concept of the lyrics to the album.
5) In "My mind still speaks" there's the phrase: "I want chaos, destroy
in order to create", are you anarchist ? What do you think about the
swedish government ?
No, I'm not an anarchist, but I do want to destroy some things in order
to create something new. This doesn't necessary mean politics though but
is more meant as areflection to some of my surroundings. About the
swedish government: "Power to the ones that doesn't want it!
(CLAWFINGER)
6) What do you think about religion and the norwegian nazi-black metallers ?
I have my own religion and have my own God - a personal Jesus. Every
Christian who isn't a hero is a asshole in my book. About norway, what
can you say that hasn't already been said ? Of course it's
kind...eh.... stupid (to say the least!) to be a nazi in 1996, 1939 or
any other year.
7) Plans for the future ?
Me and Oryan are in the studio writing songs for the next album which we
hope to release early next year. We've only done four gigs this year,
one with SLAYER !
8) What are your main influences?
I could mantion influences forever and ever.... The swedish writer
STIG DAGERMANN influenced the lyrics to one of the new songs. SEX
PISTOLS were one of the bands that influenced we to start doing music in
the first place. The country/rock band PALACE MUSIC has done this years
best album. Seeing PRODIGY live last year was amazing! We both have
been listening to JOY DIVISION a lot lately. The "Selfless" album with
GODFLESH is my favourite Earache release ever! NINE INCH NAILS "the
downward spiral" is, so far, the most interesting, brutal and innovative
album released during the 90's.
9) Are you satisfied with Earache ? They started with grind band and now
change to techno-industrial, some people don't like this.
I only find it natural that Earache seek new genres of music to release.
I mean, what's the point of doing the same thing over again ? It's not
like they're sold out or anithing by releasing a band like Misery.... or
is it ??
10) How you create a new song ?
We use programmed drums and steal bits and pieces from records, TV etc.
Usually we start with a drum beat and some noises and then record bass,
guitars and vocals.
11) What kind of books/films do you like ?
I'd like to recommend the book "Mr Punch" by NEIL GAIMAN and DAVE McKEAN
and I know Orian has seen "Seven" twice so he seems to like it!
12) There's a web page in internet or an E-mail address where contact you ?
At the moment I think the best way of contacting us is to write the
address on the album.
13) say what you want....
The gigs we did in Italy on the PARADISE LOST tour was some of the best
experiences I've had. We met a lot of nice people and I truly hope that
we can go back soon! Otherwisw I'll go there on my own on a fuckin'
vacation!!! TAKE CARE!

1) Tell me about your album "A chapter of accidents"
The album was recorded on the Feb-March '94 in one of the best polish
studio recording "Izabelin", studio well-known for other styles of music
also. Album contains 18 songs in gore grind style. It's absolutely not
for fans of musical fashion, it's for true maniacs only.
2) I think D.I. are so influenced by early CARCASS, is it true ?
I think we can say by this way. We like CARCASS a lot, gut only for two
first albums.
3) What are the difference about "Chapter of..." and your first release
"Surgical..." ?
I think that first album is most in death/grind vein. On the second
album we wanted to keep grind parts only. I can tell you that our new
songs will be as brutal and fast as we can do that.
4) Are you in good relations with Morbid Rec. ?
Yes, I hope.
5) Why D.I. hadn't play in Italy with DERANGED, AVULSED ecc in January
'96 ?
We very wanted to come to italy, but it wasn't our fault. As I heard
that was some problems with organizer. Also we've got confirmation too
late.
6) What are your 5 favourite bands ?
Five favourite bands of mine ? here they are: REGURGITATE (rip), GUT
(rip), AGATHOCLES, INHUME, MUCOPURULENT.
7) What do you think about 'zines ?
I think they're very strong support for all underground scene. They're
very needed.
8) Do you know some italian bands ?
Yes, I know NECROBESTIALITY. I've heard CENOTAPH, BULLDOZER, AL BANO and
ROMINA POWER.
9) Can you tell me some interesting poland band ?
I could recommend you SQUASH BOWELS from our city, also ROTTING HEAD,
INCARNATED. It's sad, but most of popular polish bands are black metal,
and what is wrongst, it's musical fashion.
10) Finish as you like...
Thanx for the interview! We'd like visit italy someday! bye!

1) I'm waiting for the new SYL record, can you tell me some news about
it ? it will be like "heavy as a really..." ?
It is as intense as "Heavy" but more musical. Better songs, better production,
more hell, more sex, more shit, more piss...
2) There will be other cover or other hidden-bonus track in the new record ?
"Satan's ice cream truck" is wonderful :)
There is no hidden track. The whole "hidden track" thing is so overused that I
decided to be "different" and not do one. There is, however, a whole album of
bonus tracks I'm working on called Gunt.
3) Gene Hoglan is a death-drummer, I think he'll bring more power in the
rhytmic session, isnt' it ? Is Gene only a session-man ?
Everybody with SYL is a session man. Gene added more power, yes, but it's the
music that counts as a whole, and his drums are just a part.
4) Who are the special guest which helped you to record the new album ?
The special guests are so special that they remain nameless.
5) in "heavy as a really..." the lyrics weren't on the CD-booklet,
I found it in the SYL web page, are you afraid by censorship ?
I don't care about censorship. My main priority is making music for me and no
one can censor that. The silly little people who censor records can do
whatever the fuck they want to with my records. The lyrics are on the new one
and the Christians will want to hunt me down...
6) I hope one day SYL will play in italy, is it possible ?
It is possible.
7) what are your musical and artistical main influences ?
Stress, rain, my overactive paranoid imagination, sex and humor.
8) are you satisfied of your label ? do they have other bands like SYL ?
Century Media are average at what they do. Not great, not horrible. "City"
[the new SYL record] will be the last thing I do for them. The only other
bands on the label that I like are Samael, the Gathering and Eye Hate God, and
they are nothing like SYL.
9) what do you think about hard and light drugs ?
Do what you want with your body. If you are so fucked up that you harm
yourself with drugs, it's a pity, but it's your own damn fault. Most things
are fine in moderation. Whatever it takes to get you by, I guess.
10) what kind of instrument do you use to get that powerful guitar sound ?
An ESP Explorer with EMG-81 pickups, 11-56 strings and either a Mesa-Boogie
.50 caliber head, or a custom Morin head through a Marshall slanted cabinet.
11) why didn't you played any guitar solo in "heavy as...." ?
I had just finished touring wirh Steve Vai and I didn't care if I never heard
another solo in my life...
12) I'd like to have a SYL-T-shirt but I haven't find it here in italy,
chutney ferrett merchandising is not distribuited in europe ?
You can get t-shirts etc. through Century Media. Contact them at 12706 West
Washington, Culver City, CA, 90066, USA . Or email: CenturyMed@aol.com to get
an order form.
13) say everything you want....
Get ready for a major musical revolution. It won't be just us and other cool
bands, it will be an industry-wide thing. Music sucks right now and I want it
to die. Too much money stifles creativity.
EAT PASTA AND BOOGIE !!!

H. started in october 1993 and a year later they recorded the first demo
(1400 copies sold). On september 1995 H. released a split 7" with EXIT
13 for Visceral Production (their drummer's label) and now is reprint on
miniCD version. On march '96 was out a split CD with EXHUMED "In the
name of gore".
Craig
1) Hello, can you present your split CD with EXHUMED ?
The split CD with EXHUMED has 13 tracks by us and 11 by E. It has a 12
panel full color insert with tons of pleasant gore. It'a available for
$12 US - $14 world. In Italy this is available through Torture Records.
Support Luca, has is a good distributor in Italy.
2) What's about your lyrics ?
We don't have any arguments really, we're just a gore band and we really
don't stand for anything. We don't have lyrics about real life or any
struggles that we face. We simply don't care enough about anything.
3) Describe HEMDALE's music
We're extreme grinding death gore that we'll make urine flow in your
veins!! Also, we like midgets.
4) Many good bands come from Ohio like HEMDALE, MORTICITE, DROGHEDA.
Other good bands ?
Some local bands around here are: SODOMIZED, BLOOD COVEN, INCANTATION,
ODIOUS SANCTION, TON, EMBALMER, SLOTH, DECRIPT, BLESSED SICKNESS and
probably some others that I'm forgetting.
5) Do you like trash movies ?
Oh yes.
6) What's your opinion about homophobics, sexists and racists ?
I don't care in all honesty. It doesn't bother me what anyone else
thinks. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and beliefs no matter
how stupid I might think they are. If someone wants to be a religious
nut, so be it. I just want people to respect my beliefs and I will
respect theirs.
7) Do you like black-doom metal ?
Yes, there are some good black metal bands. I buy some but for the music
only, not for their image. I don't listen to too much doom, but I really
like DUSK from Wisconsin. Some black metal bands are very good but there
are a lot that only being signed for their image and that sucks.
8) Do you know some italian bands ?
Yes, I know a lot of italian bands but I really can't think of too many
right now. I know bands like AGONIA, and distribute a lot of italian
demos and CD's. Most of those I get from the labels though, which seem
to not be in italy.
9) How are HEMDALE on stage ?
Basically, it's us playing our music and acting like idiots. We don't
take ourselves seriously. We're not one of those bands that act all
serious and tough, because we aren't. We don't look the least bit
inimidating, so no one could take us seriously if we did try to act
tough.
10) Projects for the future ?
We have coming up H. 7" for Relapse Rec., HEMDALE/EXIT 13 split miniCD
version on my label Visceral Prod., and three 7" split with DISGUST,
CSSO and AGATHOCLES. Also, Stage 3 is printing new full color shirts for
us.

H. was formed back in 1990 but for some problems the band died. In 1992
H. reborned and after some line-up problems they recorded their first
demo and in 1994 they signed with Morbid Rec. for a CD called "Emetic
Cult". In the beninning of 1997 will be out their new album "Grume".
Luisma:
1) Hi Luisma, can you present the actual line-up ?
Hello Raffa. The actual line-up is : Lugubrious (vox maligna), Luisma +
Ana (frenzied rippers of the six ulcerated strings), Ramon (distorted
surgeon of the four strings) and the new member Rojas (crusher of the
drums of cancroid pestilence)..... ahahah sick enough ?
2) I think H. have a personal sound, a cool mix of various influences;
how you describe it ?
Well, we play grind-gore with very sick sound and influenced of
punk-rock hardcore-crust-death metal etc. etc., vocals are distorted,
clean, and sometimes high pitched screaming vocals.
3) How can you present your debut album "Emetic cult" to whom don't know it ?
hmmm... what can I say ? It's a very lovely album for us, 'cause it's
making our main being known worldwide. Musically is OK, although I'm
more satisfied with the new stuff. There are some songs like
"anatomized", "foetal mincer", "the crypt dejection" etc. which are
classic in our short discography (and in our live show).
4) What had you recorded before "Emetic cult" ?
We only have a split EP with CHRIST DENIED and a demo "Grotesque
embryopathology" of '92. You can hear all this songs on our CD with
better sound.
5) I think you made a lot of concert.... how are H. on stage ?
Yes, we have played live with ANAL CUNT, NECROPHILIACS, W.B.I., AVULSED,
DENAK, ESCROTO, EL KASO URKIJO and some more. We don't like to play live
a lot 'cause people gets tired. Our shows are about 30' of pure
sickness!
6) What kind of music do you like to listen to ?
I listen to punk, grind, HC, crust, HM. I like tons of different bands:
XYSMA, E.N.T., REPULSION, EXPLOITED, CARCASS, JUDAS PRIEST, SEX PISTOLS,
MISFITS, CARNAGE, AUTOPSY etc.
7) Do you know some italian bands ?
Yes, but most of them are trendies.... I like CRIPPLE BASTARDS and some
more, but I hate doom-black bands etc.
8) If you had to advice me some good band from spain, which you can suggest ?
My fave spanish band is RUIDO DE RABIA. They play a strange mix of
grind-industrial-hardcore. I think is the best (of spain).
9) Have you a political idea ?
Well, all political idea is: kill politicians 'cause they are fucking
bastards. We are against the fucking system of slavery: the society. I
don't need the fucking society with their stupid laws. FUCK POLITIANS,
POLICE, PRIEST etc. etc. and do what you will.
10) A last comment for our readers...
Thanx for the interview Raffa. A big hello to you and your italian
readers. Fuck off to all trendies (special to grind zone mag, change
your name fucking bastards) long live to grind-gore!! Fuck music! stay

PUNCTURE
1) What's the complete Puncture discography ?
We have 1 CD out on Bullet-Proof Rec. in Europe; this CD was released by
Century Media in the USA. We are now on Olympic Recording/MIA Records in
the USA, and our second CD, titled Immune, is scheduled for release on
September 10,1996, in the USA. We do not know about European release of
this CD, yet.
2) Describe your music
Industrial Hate Piss Satan Mother Fuck!
3) Is the line-up the same as described in the "Puncture" CD booklet? Do
some members of the band have side-project bands ?
No, we are now a four piece band. We still have Rick Perry on vocals,
guitar, and programming and Jim Melancon on bass and programming. As for
the side-projects, I write a lot of techno stuff outside of PUNCTURE.
Mike is working with his girl on something. Jim and I want to do a total
noise thing, but nothing has a name or is solid.
4) Talk about your lyrics, who wrote them ?
Rick writes all the lyrics. They usually reflect of his personal
experiences and feelings regarding sex, drugs and relationship.
5) Are there some chances to see you in an european tour with some dates
in italy ? Plans for the future ?
We would love to come to Europe and play. When our new CD comes out in
Europe there will hopefully be some dates, including italy. I,
personally, want to play in sweden because that is where I'm from; see
my grandparents, cousins, et cetera.
6)What are your musical and artistical main influences ?
We are influenced by anything we hear and see. Bands that have
influenced P. directly are: Skinny Puppy for atmosphere, Front Line
Assembly for beats and electronics, Voivod and Godflesh for the
discordant guitar, and Geto Boys for the attitude. Personally:
Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire, electronic body music and techno are my
influences.
7) Are you satisfied of your label? Do they have other bands like you ?
We just signed with Olympic, and our CD has not come out, yet; so it's a
little early to tell if we are going to be pleased or not. Olympic
Recordings also have the bands Crawl and Oppressor.
8) How do you create a song? Describe the instrument you use.
It really depends. Usually, I will have some sequence programmed and we
will go from there. Or Rick have some drum sequence programmed, or a
guitar riff written. As for equipment we have two Ensoniq EPSs, Boss
DR-660, DR-550, Roland alpha-Juno 1, Korg DW-8000, Moog Source, DAT
machines. That's for the electronics. We also have guitars, bass, et
cetera.
9) What do you think about hard and light drugs ?
It would depend on which member of P. you'd ask. Personally, I do not
use drugs, hard or soft. I do believe marjuhana should be
decriminalized.
10) Why do you play music, and why this kind of music ?
We play music because that is what we want to do. Why this style? This
is what we like to do: heavy guitars, distorted vocals with lots of
electronics.
11) Is there an E-mail, official web pages or mailing list where people
can contact you ?
We just got a web page set up and the address is
http://www.flash.net/~adevoide. There is a place on there where you can
send us E-mail. You can find out a lot more about P. on the web page.
The information there comes directly from us. If you are not on the net,

PUTROCORPSE
P. was born in '93 by Marco (guitar) and Mauro (drum). After some month
we finally found 2 guys that like to play death metal: Roberto (voice)
and Massy (bass). In the '94, after some concerts, Mauro left the band
(musical disagreement) and Massy come back to his previously band;
after some months 2 friends joined us in the band: Andrew took the place
od Mauro on drum and Sguangia on bass, while Roberto started playing
guitar. With this line-up in the '96 (september) we released our first
demo "Bowel chronicles".
1) Talk about your debut demo "bowel chronicles".
There are 5 songs in this demo and an intro. Between songs we had insert
some samples from Monty Python and Peter Jackson's films. It was
recorded in 2 days, it's about 20-25 minutes long and we are quite
satisfied of it.
2) How can you describe your music?
brutal death metal. We are influenced by the "Morrisound Studios" scene,
but there are personal ideas in every songs; we are not clones of other
bands.
3) What are the arguments of your lyrics ?
Our lyrics are mainly gore and describe all that can disturb
closed-mind, lyrics are only words, with a lot of demential humor;
"constipation" talks about a big problem in our society, due to stress
of our life, and to psichological problem about a negative aspect joined
to the shit. The only song which has a different lyric is "morbid fear
of death"; it talk about our opinion about religions (we hate them,
cristianity and satanism included).
4) What do you think about italian death/black scene ?
In italy we haven't a point of aggregation like were the Sunlight
studios in sweden or the Morrisound studios in florida, or an ideologic
movement like the norwegian black-satanists. Maybe this is good......
Moreover there's a big rivality between bands. I'm not interested in an
italian scene, I think the underground is an international movement, not
delimited by political or racial barriers.
5) Do you believe in the phrase "stay brutal" or you appreciate the
evolutions in death metal ?
Even if the base of our music is brutality, we don't dislike the
influences that can improve this kind of music.
6) What are your influences ?
We have various influences. All of us like brutal death and metal, but
everyone has a personal preferences: Andrew likes all brutal bands, IRON
MAIDEN and SLAYER; Sguangia is more oriented on BLIND GUARDIAN etc.,
Roberto likes a lot doom and black metal, and I like mainly industrial
and grind.
7) Do you like "trash" films ?
What's trash ? I think now the "trash" is a trend and there's no
definition of what's exactly. For me, real trash is what stink, and
surely we like it a lot ..ah,ah. We like all horror-splatter, from Peter
Jackson(Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles,Braindead) to J.Buttgereit
"Nekromantik, Schramm), with all americans classic of 70s, troma films,
italian horror filmakers, italian sleaze comedy, mondo movies etc.
8) What are your political ideas ?
We aren't a political band. Every Putrocorpse member has his personal
opinion and we don't mix it with music (it will be impossible). I can
say you that I like individualistic anarchical ideas, I'm against all
kind of barriers (religious, statal, racial, sexual, and so on). Others
in band don't think so.....

VLADIMIR
1) Present your demo "lost in my tears".
It's 45' of black gothic atmospheres. It was recorded in 3 months at
Rainbow studios. It contains 7 songs.
2) Can you describe your music with few words ?
It's difficult describe it with few words. I can say our sound results
from our reflections, passion....
3) I know VLADIMIR had just recorded a 3 tracks promo. What are the
differences between the old songs and the new ones ?
In the new songs there are 2 new members: me at drums and Francesco at
keyboards. That brings a different attitude. Also the old members have
more experience and technical now. Valentina, the girl who sang in "my
dead dream" and "la priere", now is a member of the band. This promo was
recorded in 20 hours and it's only for the label. The songs will be used
for our next release. (it will be out a miniCD for Dawn of Sadness
rec.).
4) How born a VLADIMIR song ?
There isn't a particular method of composition. Frequently we translate
in music our moods, we put ourself in the correct atmosphere for that
song and our art now take form.
5) Have you got a religious idea ?
We are very interested on religions or occult. Everyone have his
opinions, ideas not belong at any kind of current.
6) What are the arguments of your lyrics ?
They speak about the dead, the fear and the charm of it; the man's
interest for the unknown, the impossibilities to love something of
mortal.
7) What do you think about nazism ?
I think everyone is entitled to believe in every matters and I respect
them. That change when someone force other people to believe in
something they don't agree. I don't support that.
8) Project for the future ?
The CD.
9) Finish...

This guys from Denver (Colorado) released a cool demo in 1995 and
recently (after the interview) I received some news about them: they

1) let we start: present the currently line-up
Creep (vocals & guitar), Jeremy (drums), Mike (guitar), and Josh-Ace
(bass & vocals).
2) Three words to describe D.F. music
HATE CORE SHIT
3) Tell me about your demo "I don't feel so fuckin' good"
It's a nine songs demo we made in 1995. It's real neat and it is made
for those falling in love (I shove it up my ass personality).
4) What are your mainly influences ?
Bob Dylan
5) What do you think about death sentence ?
I don't know. But if I had to I'd say.......no, I don't believe in the
death sentence because they don't kill you right then and there. They
make you rot in a cell knowing your never going to have a peacefull
moment again and then they kill you about 5 to 30 years later. That's
pretty....um how do I say ? WRONG!!!!!
6) Have you done some concerts ?
Yeah, we've played shows. They go over like a skinhead at a black
panther party. Roughly translated..... we suck !!!!
7) Talk about the argument of your lyrics ?
We don't write lyrics. If we did, they would be

8) Projects for the future ?
We are doing a split 7" with VOMIT SPAWN, then we're going to do another

W. started in 1995 (one year ago) has a noise project because a friend

2) If you have to describe your music with 3 words ?
Mark: Whinging bastard pop music for the masses
Paul: Garbled noise pop
Erik: Mummy mummy mummy
3) Give us tons of information about your debut demo.
Erik:
It was recorded at one of the crack houses in one afternoon (4 hours
approx). Then we went to big band studios and mastered it. The studio is
owned by an old guy into big band swing music. He was 63 years old and
sayd it was the hippest music he had heard in years since George Aulds
"new air mail express" jazz songs. Paul: We planned to make 150 copies
and distro them overseas. Not in australia because no one wants to year
your music in this country unless it's pop or melodic hardcore.
4) Reading your lyrics I'm totally agree with you. Who wrote them ? Tell
us about what are your inspirations.
Paul:
I write most of the lyrics because other members of the bands can't
spell. We try to keep them short and to the point, no long whinging
lyrics. We don't preach, just present our view point.
Mark: Paul's lyrics are very social; where as my lyrics are more
personal. I've written the lyrics for 3 new songs on the yet to be
released japanese EP on Pluto Records.
5) Some good bands from australia ?
Erik:
Is that a joke ? Oh no, it's just a contradiction in terms. I don't care
I hate music.
Mark:
I like DISGORGE, STAND AGAINST, ARSE RIPPER, NAILED DOWN and RUPTURE.
6) Your lyrics are social. Most band, expecially in death-grind scene,
write splatter-gore and porno lyrics. What's your opinion about this ?
Our lyrics are social because we are falling into a steady decline, a
lot of people don't know about or aren't aware of so writing social
lyrics is a means to comunicate this fact to them. We are not
politically correct at all, nor do we complain about PC lyrics. When you
have to write sexist, omophobics lyrics to be anti-PC you should give it
up and become a politician. Porno lyrics are written by people (man)
with small dicks who can't think above the groin area. Pornolyrics have
been done to that by bands like MEAT SHITS. People like Robert Deathrage
are fucking boring. Splatter lyrics: no problem.
7) Have you some B-side projects ?
Den:
No, but we have C-side project
8) Project for the future ?
Paul:
We have completed a 10" with AUTORITAR from Berlin due out in mid
October with 10 songs and a lot of samples. It being pressed in sweden
so I hope it's good quality. We have about 5 more releases to do.
Den:
World domination
9) Last famous words ?
Paul:
Autralia is a shit hole, don't come down here. All the world is a stage,
except australia is a crawl space. Look out for our 10" on Yellow Dog
Records.
Den:

PENIS LEECH
1) Let's start with a presentation...
P.L. was born in the '95 and after some line-up problems in the '96
summer was ready some cover (AGATHOCLES, BROKEN HOPE...) and the 5 five
songs of the demo. Now, we are planning for some concert in south of
italy to promote our demo-tape.
2) Can you present us your demo ?
Our demo "Inhuman pubic revenge" contains 5 brutal death metal tracks
for 18 minutes of music. You can find in it pure brutal death, from
slow motion parts to faster slaughtering riffs, all with crashing vocals
and killer drumming.
3) Why do you play this kind of music ?
There isn't a particular reason. Me and Antonio was searching elements
for a band in the '93, but only 2 years later we get a band. This is not
a trend (I think brutal death will never be a trend), but only a true
passion to this kind of music.
4) Are you influenced only by death metal or you listen to other music too ?
All of us have started listening to heavy metal, even if now I'm
listening to only brutal (and Antonio too). My favourite bands are:
CANNIBAL CORPSE, SUFFOCATION, INTERNAL BLEEDING, DYING FETUS, BROKEN
HOPE, TORTURE CRYPT(rip), AGONIA(rip), TON and many other american
bands.
5) What's your opinion about italian scene ?
In the last years is improved, but for me is again a level under other
european scenes. There isn't places where play, few people at the
concerts (ABSU in Rome less of 100 people, SINISTER in Rome about 80);
there aren't organizer...
6) I know you have a distro too, can you talk about it ?
One years and half ago, toghether with Sara I'm devoting with
underground distribution. At the beginning, we promoted only local bands,
then we expanded to international scene. Kriptoria distr. deal with all
that is underground (no CD); requesting the list you can find demo-tape,
7", 'zine about death/black/grind with all contaminations. Our spirit
and our prices are really underground.
7) What are the arguments in your lyrics ?
I write lyrics and musics. I haven't a particular target in my lyrics.
There is splatter in "Inhuman pubic revenge" (describe 4 torture,
dedicated to people that molest women) and in "Ripicephalus sanguineus"
(a tick fantasy travel in the human mind), but we also have lyrics about
social problems such as pedophilia, or poetry in "death has the last
word".
8) What do you think about italian society ?
To be truthful, I'm very disappointed from italian society. Maybe
because I live in south of italy (there are a lot of problems....). I
visited all italy, and I like city as Rome, Florence; when I'll finish
my studies, I'll move out from Bitonto.
9) Finish the interview...
Thanx for the interview and go on supporting brutal death, 'cause italy
needs that. If anyone want buy our demo, it costs 5$. A personal fuck
off to the rip offers Carlo (NECROMASS), and Jacopo (NOVGOROD); you rule
on my penis!!

SEPTIC FLESH
1) You have gained a certain success also in italy: would you present
yourself to whom has not yet known you ?
We are formed in March '90. Till now we've released a demo ("Forgotten
path", sold-out), a mini-LP ("Temple of the lost race", sold-out), and
two albums from Holy Rec. ("Mystic places of dawn" and "Esoptron").
2) Your sound is influenced by several elements: what are they ?
Well, we are listening to all kind of metal, also to darkwave, classical
music, soundtrack, etc. Beyond the influences, we've worked a lot to
create what is described as Dreamy Emotional Death sound.
3) I think your music is pervaded by a doomy atmosphere: I mean that it
seems something obscure and menacing is going to happen. Where do you
find inspiration ?
I have received many letters stating the same thing. What's going to
happen is change as always does. From the elder times Myths where used,
among other ways, as a first approach to the mysteries of the world,
then as man evolved, he solved many mysteries but for one mystery solved
two others are born. I find exciting to cross the realms of fantasy
because of her ability to prepare the individual for the changes that
will occure by keeping the mind open. What gives me inspiration is the
hidden face of nature, what we create is a musical mythos.
4) "Mirror": has the title of your album a precise and hidden meaning ?
Exactly. That's why I used the specific ancient greek word.
5) Sotiris writes every musics and lyrics, what is Spiros' role ?
This is not true. Spiros has contributed musically in all our works,
including the upcoming with the exception of "Esoptron". Also he has a
valuable opinion in arrangements of the songs, not to mention he's
unearthly vocals.
6) I've read you decided to remain a studio band. It's a pity, because
to me your music has something theatrical.
Having a small but stable base and using session members to cover the
missing positions doesn't mean that we dismiss the possibilty of live
shows. Quite the contrary, we're willing to give the audience a visible
side of our music. With the right opportunity we'll be very glad to do
so.
7) Nowaday the greek metal scene is seen as one of the most important
scene on an international level. What do you think about ?
It was inevitable from the moment greek bands gained access to the wide
underground by signing with foreign labels. The audience appreciates
talent and originality, of course the right promotion is very useful.
8) Do you know any italian bands ? And what are your advices for those
band who want to make their best in a musical career ?
We receive a lot of mail from your country. We know some bands and we
think you have an important scene too. My advice is patience. Build
something that will last and not something in the name of fashion,
create something that you love and if your love is strong enough the
others will be touched too from the power of your emotions. The above
advice is for those who want to gain more than the glory of the moment.
9) What does the cover painted by Spiros represent ?
The mental state of today world as opposed to the beaty and wisardy that
can be taped from the eldest mind of cosmos. The serpent is the symbol
of knowledge and power, as opposed to the ignorant and fear that is
lowed to multiply from its denial. But of course, one must possess
courage to "dive" where thoughts avoid the rest....
10) How is "Narcisism" born ? It's a song containing an incredible
variety of moods, atmospheres, riffs etc.
I worked a lot for that song, it was a dream I had for a long times to
use my classical education, and make an ancient opera combined with
metal riffing.
11) Do you want to say anything to our italian fans ?
When clouds and winds are gathered one can expect a storm. Be prepared
for "The ophidian wheel"

HATEBOX
1) Present HATEBOX project to our readers.....
H. borned in july '95 with 2 members but now I'm the only one. It's an
extreme grind project without melodies or technicalities.
2) Tell me about the demo recording.
The demo was recorded with a second-hand 4 tracks, because the studio
where I thought to go was closed for acoustic pollution. With this
method, I had some problems, I didn't hear the base and I haven't the
multitracks instructions. I'm satisfied, the underground is based by do
it yourself principle. If someone want a digipack CD, buy a major
product.
3) What means HATEBOX ?
H. is the name of a disco where Marge (the Simpson) go to dance, it's a
Thelma & Louise parody. It's a stupid origin, but it has a personal
meaning in "boxed" lyric.
4) What are the argument of your lyrics ?
My lyrics are intimist, but not bring into focus. They can have many
interpretations. The only social lyric is "youth": a critic to the
conformism in the sub-cultures; peoples that define himself
"alternative", follow different trend, but they don't think with their
head.
5) What do you think about italian scene ?
I like CRIPPLE BASTARDS. In H. demo there's a cover of them. For the
metal prevails melody; I haven't problem with this, but I think the word
extreme isn't correct. I like NOVEMBRE and THY NATURE, in italy there
are many cool bands like CSI, MARLENE KUNTZ, USTMAMO, etc.
6) Have you got a religious idea ?
I'm agnostic, I haven't certainties. I tolerate all religions except
ones who takes belivers freedom.
7) What are your influences ?
I listen to many kind of music, but there isn't melody in HATEBOX. My
favourite are: BRUTAL TRUTH, early FEAR FACTORY, GODFLESH, GOD, DISRUPT,
CATASEXUAL URGE MOTIVATION, CRIPTOPSY, PAINKILLER, PITCH SHIFTER.
8) Something of annoying in daily life....
Vivisection, homophobics, hypocrisy, censorship, "alternative" young
people that are only conformists, etc.
9) Finish the interview....
Thanks for the interview, if someone is interested on my demo, send me
4$ (europe) 5$ (world), or your demo or 'zine. Support sonic terrorism.

TORTURE RECORDS
1) When borns Torture records ?
T.R. was born in october '95 to support underground brutal death metal
bands. Before I had only a distribution called Extreme Brutaly and I
prefer support grind-death bands but I didn't omit other kind of bands
'cause I help everyone who make something for the underground. When I
knew CORPSEGOD (ex ENTHRALMENT), I liked their music and decided to
produce a MCD.
2) Your first release was a brutal death/grind band. Do you produce only
this kind of bands or also other like the trendy doom/black bands ?
I list only brutal death and I help this kind of band but if some band,
like the australian BESTIAL WARLUST (that say they are a black band but
they aren't) send me a demo why don't produce them ? But no melodies,
only violence!
3) Have you gor something to release in the future ?
In August 7" for D-FORM (ita) and BLOOD OF CHRIST (can). In september
four 7" (NATRON (ita), HAVUSPEX (usa), THANATOLOGIST (ita), and
REPUDILATION (usa)). Other releases are CD for AIWAZ and mini-CD for
CINERARIUM.
4) I think you have a distro list...
Yes, I've got a distro with tons of materials with cheap prices.
5) Do you produce only italian bands ?
No, I produce bands from all the world, I tell you some names before...
I can't tell you others info because I had some problems with a band, so
I prefer give info only when I'm sure about a band.
6) What do you think about italian death/grind scene ?
Not good, few people like this music but I see others singed hossannan
kind of music have a decline.
7) I think you like states underground..
I knew a lot of people with the label and the distro.... there are many
good band. Maybe some will be out on Torture Rec ?!
8) Conclude...
Thanks for the interview and the support at my label. Stay brutal !!!
