FALKENBACH
Black metal scene is full of idiots that think they are superior
persons, maybe this is the principal reason of my hate for black
metal. The following interview is a good example of what I said before,so
thanks to Luca for has done it and to Vratyas that doesn't send us a 15
pages int. full of bullshit as he use to do.
-Who are persons costituting F.?
The only musician involved in F. is me,Vratyas Vakyas. The main dates for
F. were the release of the 5th tape (the first official one),which was
called "laeknishendr",and the release of the tape "promo 95" as well as
the CD/LP called "...en their med riki fara..."in 96.
-What are your musical influences?Where does medieval atmospheres derive from?
F. in my opinion isn't influenced by any special bands or kind of
music. The medieval elements are created by the use of different kind of
flutes, acoustic guitar, ancient percussion ect.. The reason for the use
of such "unusual" instrument is that the melodies in F. need such a
sound. Also the lyrics play an important role, and so it's impossible to
use only the typical instruments-it wouldn't be F.,you know!?
-How do you write music?
Most of the songs I don't have to create in the usual way,but I find
them nearly completely structured in my heart. That's why both songs
"heathenpride" and "...into the ardent awaited land..." where totally
done in only one night, music and lyric wise, for example:in my opinion I
just convey those melodies and lyrics,I don't create them.
-Texts refer to epic tales: are you inspired by any precise literary source?
Most of the lyrics refer to the Edda and the hiperborean lore called
Vatan. The same goes for the visual artwork of the booklet.Especially the
last page shows all important aspects of Vatan,it's a kind of a
guidepost through all rites and possible experiences of a human soul.
-What do booklet's images refer to?
As I have already mentioned before,F. conveys knowledge and wisdom of
Vatan exclusively, wrapped in a form of Asatru simbols and theoretical
characters.Of course one has to interpret the lyrics intensively to
understand them in a correct way.
-What is your philosophical thoughts, religious faith and political
ideals? What kind of relationship they have with your music? What kind of
life do you lead out of the band?
F. is the only musical thing I'm involved in right now.Besides my life
isn't usual one.I think,but I don't want to talk about my personal
existence too much to people I don't know personally,You know?!
-Why does booklet lack of some text(in norvegian language,I think)?
The reason was that it wasn't possible to get the right type-set, with
icelandic lecters ect.So I prefer to don't print them than to print
them(the title of the album itself isn't correct Ed.).But the lyrics of
Laeknishendr were printed in the promo 95 tape unfortunately in a wrong
way,too!
-What is your opinion about the diatribe between pagan and black metal?
Well,to be onest,I don't know anything abot a thing like that about,even
if I personally thing BM and paganism in general don't have to much in
common anyway. If some satanists think, that heathens are their sister and
brethren,Ok (What!?!? Ed.) but all in all,I think this isn't true
everytime.
What kind of relationshit do you have with other bands of the scene?
I don't have any contacts with known bands worldwide actually! We do our
own things, and we don't care about each other just because we live in
the same country,I think. We've got no problems as far as I know, but we
also haven't got any kind of relationships.
-Are concerts be planned? And what are F.'s future projects?
As I am the only musician actually playing in F.,concerts aren't
planned. In the second half of 1997 the new CD will be obtainable, that's
all.
-Do you know any italian bands?Add what you want...
99% of your brave scene is ridicolous scrap, fake or pure
rip-off!!!Shirts (golden printed on back and front),LPs (gatefold cover
limited to 500 pieces only!) and CDs are obtainable through:NO COLOURS
P.O. BOX 04541 BORNA GERMANY or F. c/o Rosmarin str. 30/b 40235

MORTICIAN
- M. are finally arrived at full lenght album. Are you satisfied ?
Give us tons of info about "Hacked up for barbecue"
We are very satisfied with the outcome of Hacked Up For Barbeque it is
pretty much exactly what we were going for we are happy that it is getting a
positive response from the zines and the fans.
- Your sound is one of the most sick and strong I've hears. What are your
instruments ? Do you use some effects for the vocals ?
We use distortion on Will's bass, a GSP-21 for guitars, and absolutely no
effects to alter Will's voice except for a little reverb.
- The artwork of "House by the cemetary" was by Benscoter. And the new one ?
Hacked up for Barbeque was also done by Wes and to say the least, we are very
happy with it!
- What about the "house by.." sales ?
About 5000 copies are in circulation.
- On The Banned 'zine I've read you like italian horror movies. What are
your favourite ? (It's difficult to find italian films in USA, such as
Cannibal Holocaust, Deep Red, Mondo Cane, and so on ?)
It's actually pretty easy to get that kind of shit around here. You can get
all the uncut versions at the horror conventions.
- About music what do you know about italy ?
Schizo, Necrodeath, Bulldozer (from the old days), and newer stuff,
Corpsegod, Necromass, etc.
- Why do you use a drum-machine? Don't you want to make some show ?
I hope to see M. live here in italy.
For recording purposes the drum machine is a thing of convenience. As far as
live goes we always use a human drummer. We are currently trying out drummers
for a tour sometime this year.
- Why had you recorded Celtic Frost and Napalm Death cover ?
Barney Greenway left N.D., what do you think about it ?
They were both songs that meant alot to both of us from our early days in
the scene. We had heard that Barney is actually back with Napalm.
- From what films have you make samples for "house by..." ?
This is a question asked by many of our fans. We currently are planning a
contest on our web page (http://members.aol.com/Cremated) to see who can
name all the movie intros, so we don't want to give anything away.
- Project for the future ?
We are currently thinking about doing another 7" which would include a few
originals and a few covers.
- Some final words for our readers.
Since we've both got Italian blood in us, we'd love to get over there one
day. For now visit our Web Site at http://members.aol.com/Cremated

SCATTERED REMNANTS
SCATTERED REMNANTS
This act from MA have self-released a MCD which was good received by the
underground and now they have just sign for one of the most active
american indie knows as VISCERAL Production. This interview is with the
guitar player Rob Settergren that also carries out underground materials
with his ABOUND DISTRO.
-Hello Rob,how are you going? Can you start this 'view with a brief
SCATTERED REMNANTS's presentation?
Well,we are the death/grind band SCATTERED REMNANTS and we're from
america. The band started in or around 1992 and after a multitude of
line-up changes the stable line-up consist of myself,Rob
Settergren(guitar),Jason Hendershaw(vocals),Jamie Harman(guitar),Ron
Miles(bass) and finally Eric Roy (drums).
-How are going the sales of your MCD "inherent perversion"?Are you
pleased about it?What had you done to promote it?
Well, the cd has been selling very well.I'm almost positive that we
already have sold out about 2000-2500 copies of them and we still get
orders for them. Also now, that we're signed to VISCERAL PRODUCTIONS I'm
sure he gets some orders for the CD as well. But yes, overall the sales
and the response have been really well for us and very surprising,ya
know?We seriously promoted out the CD,too, though.I mean with tons of ads
and shit, and yes we are all very happy with the outcome of the sales of
the MCD and hopefully they'll keep selling.
-I know you have just signed for a full-lenght with VISCERAL and it will
be out during early '97.Can you give us some anticipations?
Yeah! The new CD will be through VISCERAL and I personally think it's
going to be better than "inherent"too.Of course,it will be a full-lenght
album and it's really in the process of being written right now,ya
know? The title will be "destined to fail"and I'm almost positive that
there will be a little bit of lyrical changes on this one, too, well
according to Jay,ya know?He said he didn't want to use the tipical
cliché lyrics,I guess.I'm not really sure about what he's going to write
about or what the hell is going on with the lyrics. But I'm sure that
thy'll be just as disturbing as all of his other lyrics.Hahahaha.He's
got some serious issues he has to deal with.Hahaha.
-What's SCATTERED REMNANTS's meaning?
I could not give you even the slighest idea why this band is called S.R.
because when the band first began I was not in the band at that time,ya
know?I'm almost positive that Jay had started and/or made up the band
name.
-Unfortunately the actual european scene is full of fuckin' trendy
black/melodic doom bands. What about the US scene?
Well, the scene over here is shitty in some of the areas, like where I
live.I mean there isn't any other death metal bands from the same
area,ya know? But if you move further out away from the sucky town we
live and practice in there's a lot of relly great death/grind/HC/trash
bands out there.HC is a real big thing where we live but damn
alternative shit is probably the biggest,ya know?(Yes,there's the same
situation where I live,the milan zone Ed.).Personally,I can't stand a
lot of the shit that's in this area, but I am open minded a lot of other
shit out there.I mean I do like some trash/black/HC/death/grind metal
music.Hell,I even like a lot off hip hop stuff, too. The only thing that I
seriously hate is the damn country & western shit, man,I absolutely that
crap, dude, for real. There isn't all that much black metal here in the
US(you are lucky! Ed.),ya know?I mean of course some,though.There's a
lot of really great US death bands out there like for example
:PYREXIA,SKINLESS,DEADEN,LIVIDITY, CORPSEVOMIT.The list go on and on
though so I'll stop right there,ok?But me personally,I don't really like
too much black metal and the ones that I do like are more or less
death/black,ya know?
-What's your opinion about splatter/gore movies? If your answer is
yes,what are your fave ones?
Splatter movies?Well if you are talking about flicks like:THE EVIL
DEAD,THE EXORCIST(my favorite),and shit like that.Yeah.You know what was
really cool?DEAD ALIVE,BAD TASTE & that movie STREET TRASH,man.STREET
TRASH was beyond to realms of good taste, hahahah. That movie was funny as
shit, too. You have to see that one if you ever get the chance. There
aren't too many really cool gore/splatter flicks,or at least I haven't
seen too many of them. All those FACES OF DEATH and all the other ones
that are supposed to just like those are stupid as shit.I wasn't into
those very much,either.
-Well,I think that you'd like to drink the same alcoholic that the
poodles drank in STREET TRASH,or not? To be seriously what's your
opinion about the actual death/gore scene?
My opinion on the gore/splatter scene is I still like it a lot.I mean,of
course there are a million bands out there trying to out gore each other
now,but who cares,ya know?It doesn't bother me that some of the bands
are gore orientated it's just the bands that are blatant rip-offs that
bother me.I'm seriously thankful that Jay's writing style doesn't fall
into that pit of repetition but that doesn't totally exclude him for
it,ya know?He just choose to write in little doses, rather than just slam
the shit out of someone with completely gory lyrics and shit.I also
think that he isn't too big of a fan of that shit, rather, though.I can't
really speak for him, though.I know a lot of his lyrics are pretty well
though out and I like them a lot, because of the fact that they are not
all gore lyrics,ya know what I mean? But like I said in the beginning of
this answer,I still like a lot of the bands that are still doing it this
way.
-What do you think about the use/abuse of hard and soft drugs?
Ahhh...Well,I can speak from both sides of the fence on this one,I
guess.I mean I've done a lot of stupid shit through the years.I used to
be a serious acid hound for a long time.I also dabbled in a lot of other
shit in my younger years.I seriously do not do anything
anymore, though.Just about the only thing I do is drink and I don't even
do much of that, either.I'm not a gigantic fan of drugs as much as I used
to be,but then again I kind of grew out of them after high school and
shit,ya know?As far as what my opinion is pretty much keep my mouth shut
on that one because if I slam it I'll get trashed and if I say do it
I'll get slammed.Me personally,I wouldn't do any more than I have
already done because it's just not worth it to me,ya know?I'm really pro
choice on that.I mean if people don't push on me I guess I don't give a
shit about it.That's a really hard question, man,so I'll just keep my
mouth shut.Hahahaha.
-Some projects for the future..
Our projects for the future is that we want to get this new CD out as
soon as possible and maybe go on tour when it's released.Get some more
merchandise made up and play as long as this form of music is liked.I
mean of course fifty years from now who knows the hell will be
doing, right? But immediate future plans would be the ones that I already
listed. Also keep my distribution going and start signing bands in the
near future,if possible.I think maybe get a real friggin
job,too.Hahaha.I can't stand the one that I've at the moment 'cause of
the lack of pay that I get.
-Thanks for all Rob,have you got some words to conclude this fucked interview?
Well, first off, eternal thanks for this interview,Raffaele,it is greatly
appreciated and I hope that your luck continues it the zine and may you
sell millions, man.Anyone this interested in checking out the band you
can write to SCATTERED REMNANTS P.O.BOX 814 FITCHBURG,MA 01420
USA.Also, anyone interested in checking out my distribution please write
to ABOUND DISTRIBUTION P.O.BOX 176 WINCHEDON,MA 01475 USA.Well,thanks a
million for your time and take care, man!
LIVIDITY
LIVIDITY
This is an interview with one of the most active person of the
underground:Dave Kibler.He is a member of LIVIDITY,he has a distro
called "coven of death",he writes on DREADED zine and he produces a
compilation tape. Now listen what he says about the new EP cassette of
LIVIDITY.
-Hello Dave,What's up?Let start with my classical first question. Can you
present the actual L. line-up?
Matt Bishop-guitar/backing vox,Tommy Davis-drummer,Aaron Heath- bass/vox
and myself,Dave Kibler-guitar-backing vox.(I've just receive a news
about LIVIDITY:Aaron has quit the band and the new bassist is Mike
Smith,ex-AVATAR.The lead vocals now are done by Matt.Ed.).
-Actually you have out a EP cassette for the polish IMMORTAL Rec. titled
"Rejoice in Morbidity",give us some infos about it.
R.i.M. is a pro-copy 24 track analog,ink print shells,full color cover
with lyrix and photos!!Was released through IMMORTAL Rec. out of
poland!Can be obtained for 5$US/6$world!2 side printed t-shirtfor 15$
also aveilable as of the beginning of January! The tape has been selling
well along with distribution help and recognition through fanzines and
radio programs! So,indulge in our sickened desires!!
-Your previsious release was a split tape with MORGUE FETUS.Are there
some differences between the split and R.i.M.?
The difference is that the L. side of MORGUE FETUS split was raw in
production from my 4 track recorder and was only a two men project with
Matt and me.So it's great "older school" death/grind with tons of
sickness!"R.i.M" is a pro-recorded,well structured material!Defitely
stronger writing and crushing performances as a full band now!Improving
and growing each year!
-When were you get in touch with IMMORTAL Rec.?
Matt had been friends with Arthur of the band CONDTEMNATION and Arthur
presented a deal through his newly created label that we extremely
appreciated his musical support and friendship!IMMORTAL Rec. has just
released CORPSEVOMIT "Bastards of foreverfilth" and will be releasing
the polish grind masters,DAMNABLE "Imperdiction"!The heaviest label (and
truest) around!Support Arthur and his project!
-Okay...how are the "R.i.M." lyrics?
You know, their like real emotional and shit for us!He's a journey
through the minds of some fucked up individuals!Killing sprees, sexual
torture, embryonic perversions ect..they make me laugh when I read
them. The tunes on the tape are "Tampered Flesh","Rectal wench","Fetal
Scambs" and "Orfice Reconstruction"! Other songs we do are "Feasting on
Mankind","Graveyard delicasy" ect..and some brand new like "Lacerations
of an Unclean Twat" and "brains for lubrication"!Those will be on the
next release. So,those with sickened frame of mind and a sense of humor
will dig it!
-I think you had done some concerts,Which is the one you prefer?
There are few shows that are of equal highlights...sept. 96 with
CORPSEVOMIT and PUTREFACTION was very tight and has a stench of filth in
the air all night (it was outside),oct. 96 we traveled to pennsylvania
and jammed with INSANITY,OSSUARY and GRAVE!Merchandise sold well and
people were to cool!May of 96 we played in Chicago with
FLESHGRIND,SODOMIZED and JUGLE ROT(total annihilatoin!!)..Aug. 96 with
SODOMIZED local act fuckin' killed!..oct 95 in Chicago with CORPSEVOMIT
and PEDERASTY outside in the rain with mud moshers and kegs fuckin'
ruled! Many more like with SARCOPHAGY,SIX FEET UNDER and more! Each show
has an individual highlight about it!
-What about the illinois scene? And telling about my country,do you know
someone from the italian scene?
The ill-noize scene has some perverted and chaotic bands such as
CORPSEVOMIT,DEADEN,SLOUGH,BROKENHOPE,PUTREFACTION,FLESHGRIND,
OPPRESSOR,P.I.S.T.,HOT STOVE,WACO JESUS,EL PECADO,LUNATIC and shit loads
more!Killer scene (as long as we do it together and not against each
other! ITALY FUCKIN' RULE!I've been corrisponding with guite a few
brutal folks from there lately like Max and CRYPTIC SOUL Prod./POISON
APPLE club(now he is distoing the L. merchantise), NATRON,MIND SNARE,a
freak named Joe Meli, yourself and I just sent an order for CORPSE
FUCKING ART which has members from CORPSEGOD. The POISON APPLE
highlights some killer brutal shows and black metal!!Would like to
visit!
-What have maily influenced LIVIDITY music?
My motivative influence are the bands that are very active in the
scene, they help keep me strong and focused!Issue of influence would be
sick flix,snut,whores,villians,serial murders,sexual strangulation and
of course the "big one" BUTT FUCKING!!Musical influence would be the
early 90's death phase with DISMEMBER, CANNIBAL CORPSE,OBITUARY,AT THE
GATES,UNLEASHED,SUFFOCATION to the new phase of brutality of
INSANITY,CORPSEVOMIT,INTERNAL
BLEEDING,SEPSISM,CUM,CRYPTOPSY,FLESHGRIND,INCANTATION,SICKNESS ect!Even
"older gods" like VENOM,EXCITER,VOIVOD,RAVEN,BLESSED DEATH,MERCIFUL
FATE,MANOWAR ect...
-Have you got some project for the future?
IMMORTAL Rec. has offered us a deal for a CD,so we are focusing on
that!We are not playing any live shows so we can jam new material!Hope
to record in Feb.!!IMMORTAL Rec. is preparing two sided t-shirts that
will be ready to circulate by the first of January!
-Thanx for all Dave,it's time to conclude..a final messages for our readers...
Thanx Raffa for the brutal interest and support, much success with you!We
have posters as well and stickers $2US/$3 world. I have a distro called
"coven of death",write for quality underground material.I write for
DREADED zine $4Us/$6 world and do DREADED comp vol.4 $5US/$6 W. or get

EVEREVE
EverEve
- Let's start with a presentation and a chrono-story of E.
E. was founded in 1993 as a project of some people, nobody of us took
the band seriously, but nevertheless we recorded the first demotape in
spring 1994 and earned some positive reaction in some zines and mags.
After some line-up changes we recorded a split CD with PARRICIDE in May
1995 (a prior to concentrating fully on E. Mark and Michael also had
been members of this band. Unfortunately, P. split up soon later).
- How did you gain the contract with Nuclear Blast and what are it's
condition ? What kind of relationship do you have with them ?
We gained the contract with the '96 promotape, thanks to Jochen Fopp who
worker at this time as a promoter for NB. After finishing the recording
of the tape we had a gig with his band MIRROR OF DECEPTION, he liked our
music and performance on stage very much, and this was the reason, why
our tape got onto the important desk of NB office. Few weeks later it
became clear that Markus Staiger, chef of NB, liked us, too, and so
we've been offered a contract for 4 years. I can tell you, we are really
happy about this. Our relationship with NB is very good, for they did a
really good job. It's just a pity that Jochen quit his job as promoter
of NB, as I told you before it was thanks to him we have now the
opportunity to introduce our music to a greater audience.
- Your sound is rich in numerous elements: what are your main musical
influences ?
You can imagine that it's not easy to find musical compromises when you
have got so many different musical preferences and predilections like we
have. Tom likes nearly every kind of music with distorted guitars,
Stefan is into power and black metal, Michael and me prefer dark wave
and gothic music, nearly everything that sounds "dark" and Stefan even
listen to sounds like THE PRODIGY. Nobody is limited on only one special
kind of music.
- Do you apply any precise method during composition of your songs ?
Songwriting usually takes quite e lot of time. We don't a special method
for this. During rehearsal we usually start with a basic idea for new
songs and everybody brings in his own ideas and stylistic preferences,
sometimes more, sometimes less.
- The course of season links some tracks of your album. What is the
meaning of this concept ?
The change of season is a projection of the different seasons' features
on the change of interhuman relationship, expecially love. Our album
starts in winter: you're alone, depressed, perhaps you think about the
past; you fall in love in spring; everything is happy and new, then in
summer the fullness and ripeness of sexual passion, first troubles and
worries in autumn and the final split, depression again in winter. We
introduce a quite negative view on things as our album both starts and
ends in winter, but this again is a link to the music of "seasons".
- I've noticed many songs of "seasons" are introduced by a female voice:
what is her role and importance ? Will it remain a feature of your
future compositions ?
The introducing female voice is performed by Charley Price. During the
recording session of "seasons", we decided that would need a contrast in
the introductions to Tom's aggressive voice. Charley's dark, breathy
voice fits perfectly. She comes from great britain, but lives in germany
for some time and we hope she will still be available for the next
recordings. As far as we know today, the next album will be titled
"elements" and it will have a similar structure like "seasons", also
with many introductions. It would be perfect, if she would recite them
again.
- In "the phoenix. SPRING" Tom says: "souls are screaming, mother and
sons are slaughtering themselves, and I teaching a dream..." very
disquieting words!!! What do you mean ?
Very disquieting words, very difficult question indeed ! These are some
lines Tom wrote, so it's hard for me interpret them. As I asked him
about, he told me not to take them literally. He was just trying to
create a special image and feeling in your mind.
- What is EverEve's relationships to other bands of the german metal
scene ? What is the level of your scene ? What are the best group ? Do
you know any italian group ?
We have a really good relationship to most of the bands in the scene....
It's quite funny that the drummer and the keyboarder of CREMATORY are
doing our management. The scene here in germany is quite small. There
are not that many metal-heads left and usually not many people visit the
smaller concerts in youth-clubs e.g. But there still hope! Especially
the gothic scene is booming tremendously in the moment, bands like
PARADISE LOST and CREMATORY have gained a considerable status in germany
and there are many newcomers in this scene, too, like HORA SUPREMA,
DARK, NIGHT IN GALES... and of course EVEREVE. Some of the best german
group are LOVE LIKE BLOOD, DREADFUL SHADOWS or DEPRESSIVE AGE. I don't
know that many bands from italy, but I recently listened to some very
promising demo-tapes on IN HUMAN MEMORIES, when we'd been on tour in
italy with AMORPHIS some weeks ago.
- A question having nothing to do with music. What do you think about
1999 european unification ? It seems Kihl doesn't like italy...
I hope the unification will take place soon. And it's important that the
new currency, the Euro, will be stabile, so it's difficult to connect it
with currencies that have a high inflation, like the lira has. But I
think these problems will be settled soon and give way to common
european future without all those struggles and prejudices we may have
even now.
- What are your future projects ?
After finishing our european tour, we will concentrate on song-writing
as we have to enter the studio in summer again. Perhaps we will come to
italy again in summer with CREMATORY, play some summer festivals and
stuff. The next big tour will take place in autumn; we will be touring
europe again with the "Out of dark"-festivals and surely come to italy,
too. Let's hope things turn out like we want them to and see you on
tour!!
In the ends I'd like to add some thanks for you, who bought the CD....
we love you for this. I hope you like the album, you know there was
quite a lot of work and heart-blood involved in producing it. And of
course I'd like to thank the authors and readers of this magazine; you
are the ones who keep the underground alive!!! Go on with that!!! I hope
we will hear from you again soon
