I Know How You Feel

Chapter 46: Practice Makes Perfect

Kris, Jamie, and Jess stood on the large stage, practicing for a concert in two days. Two choreographers stood in the rows of seats, yelling over one another to get the girls in order.

Kris sighed, and pushed her hair off a sweaty forehead. The lights bore down on her, and she grew even hotter. She looked over at Jess and Jamie, and those two looked as if they were going to go insane.

The choreographers continued to yell. Kris grew fed up.

"Oh, will the both of you just shut up?!" she cried, the outburst being magnified by her microphone. The two stopped in mid sentence, and closed their mouths.

Jamie snickered.

"You two are carrying on like two pork chops! Relax, and give your gums some rest!" she told them.

"But we have a show in two days!" one stressed.

"And I have two seconds left of patience!" she said.

"I want Zac here!" Jamie whined.

"I'm bored!" Jessica chorused.

"Oh, not you two, too!" Kris yelled exasperated. She fanned her face, and sighed again. "Let's get to work!" she directed, and led the group into a song without further complaint.

Kris played her keyboards, and turned to see how Jamie was doing on the drums. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a figure creep up behind the girl-

and yell "BOO!" Which was a surprise, since hardly anything could be heard over the drum set.

Jamie shrieked, lost the beat, and clattered to a stop. She grasped her chest, gasping.

Taylor and Isaac walked out from backstage, and laughed. Jamie grimaced, and threw her drumsticks at Zac.

"Eep!" he cried, and ran. Jamie followed.

"Isaac!" Jess cried, almost running to him. Isaac grinned. Kris rolled her eyes.

"Damn, she's got it bad." she muttered, and Taylor, hearing, nodded.

"Did we interrupt?" he asked, his eyes following Zac and Jamie.

"Yeah. Thank God!" she smiled. "Those two were giving me ulcers." she explained.

"Aren't you hot?" he asked. Taylor looked Kris up and down, and noticed she was wearing jeans, sneakers, and a long sleeved sweater.

Kristen nodded, her face pink. "Yeah."

"Then take the sweater off." he said, as if to a two year old.

"I can't." she said, her eyes shifting.

"Why? You don't have anything underneath?" he asked. "I won't look." he grinned cheekily.

"Ooo! My one an only ambition! To have Taylor Hanson look at my bits!" Kris said sarcastically. Both flushed.

Taylor shrugged, and looked away.

"You know why I'm dressed like this, Tay." she told him in a low tone. Her eyes grew troubled.

He suddenly remembered. She couldn't show her wounds to everyone without explaining, he thought. He also remembered that she had dressed to same that night at the movies.

"Sorry." he told her, and she nodded. "Hey! You know what?" he asked her, changing the mood.

"What?" she asked, pulling her hair from her head, blowing.

"You called me Tay." he said.

Kris chuckled. "Man, I guess I did. Damn, now I'm jinxed."

A loud squeal went up, and the two turned to see that Jamie and Zac had run into Isaac and Jess. The human heap moved, and Isaac untangled himself out of the mass. He helped Jess and Jam up, then picked up the chase after Zac.

"Hehe." Kris chuckled.

"Ahem!" a choreographer coughed.

"What?" Kris snapped.

"We have to rehearse!" they told her in unison.

"You two share a brain cell?" she asked. They shook their heads together. "Great." she muttered.

"Problems, huh?" Taylor asked.

"Isn't it obvious? I must be the biggest wedgie anyone has ever gotten. Or otherwise, I must have the biggest ass now that everyone is giving me a hell of a wedgie!" she murmured. "Everyone I work with always gets up my nose."

"A gift, then." Tay grinned.

"Yep, and proud of it."

"Excuse me, Kristen." a voice came from the stands.

"What the hell do you want?!" she cried. "I'm hot, and tired, got PMS, and generally being bitchy! What can I do for you??"

"Um. Photo shoot and interviews." a chastised choreographer said.

"Thank God!" she moaned, and went to round up the others. When they were all in order, she looked at the Hansons.

"Wanna come?"

"Yes! Please come!" Jamie shreiked.

"C'mon! It'll be fun!" Jess said.

"Oh no! Don't come! You'll make me nervous! God knows, you'll make faces at me, and I'll laugh until I spew in the interviewers' face!" Kris cried, pretending to bite her nails from nerves.

"For that, we're coming." Isaac smiled widely.

"Grr. You've been warned." Kris told them. "Hey, what about your dad?" she asked.

"Oh, he knows." Zac waved it away.

"Cool." said Jess.

"Let's boogie, then, peeps." she announced, and the group trailed off the large stage, leaving behind flustered choreographers.
