There was a knock at the door and Zac had to race Katie to the door to answer.
"Hey, Tay. Come on in." Zac motioned and Taylor Hanson came through the door.
Katie stared up at her uncle.
"C'mere rugrat!" Taylor chased after the girl and she ran squealing to her mother that 'Uncle Tay is here!'
Jamie stood. "Long time, no see, Taylor."
He grinned and gave her a hug. "How ya doing, hot stuff?"
"I'm fine, gorgeous." she teased. "You?"
The child ran back in and latched herself to Taylor's legs.
He laughed and pulled Katie up for a bear hug. "I'm good." He gasped dramatically as the little girl squeezed him tight around the neck.
Jamie grinned and found herself next in line to recieve a hug from the little girl. "Auntie Jamie." she grinned and squeezed her tight around the neck. Tay wasn't kidding. The kid was strong.
"That was quick work, Katie." Jamie gasped and set the girl onto the floor, who ran off.
"So how's your dad? Kris?" Taylor asked and sat down at the table.
Jamie just shook her head. "I can't believe you guys really don't know."
Taylor raised an eyebrow to his brother, but all he got was a puzzled shrug.
Jamie took a deep breath. "Have you guys recieved any mail from her? Or sent her anything?"
Taylor nodded. "I sent her a Christmas card every year for a while, but I stopped because she didn't reply. I thought she wanted her space."
Jamie nodded. "It's no wonder."
Zac took a sip of his Coke and set it down. "I don't follow."
Taylor sat back. "Me neither."
She sighed and rested her head into her hands. "Well..."
Zac grew concerned.
"She died 13 years ago, guys."
There was only a shocked silence.
"What?" Tay asked.
"How?" Zac choked.
"She contracted hepititis A." Jamie shivered. "I wrote you a letter and she gave me a sealed letter to give to you, but I guess that it got lost."
Kaylee pulled her long brown hair back and walked down the hall to the dining room. 3 people sat at the table, silent. They all turned as she cleared her throat.
"Auntie Jamie?" she asked in the silence. She looked from Mr. Hanson to the stranger. He had some resemblance to her host.
Jamie looked up and wiped her eyes. "Yeah, Lee?"
"Who's this?" the stranger asked, not taking his eyes off of Kaylee.
"You okay, Jamie?" she asked and went over to hug her aunt. What had made her cry?
Zac sighed. "This is Kris' daughter, Taylor. Kaylee."
The stranger, Taylor, sat there.
Kaylee looked at him harder. Now she recognised him. He was the boy with her mum when she was 15. "You were my mum's friend." she stated.
He blinked and nodded.
