-CHAPTER 4-
I listened to the music in my left ear as I uncovered my right. I think I had the song down pat.
Isaac and Zac were in the sound room, fiddling around with the system.
I read over the words and mouthed them quietly, trying to keep the tune to 'We Will Rock You' out of my head.
Taylor stood next to me, adjusting his head gear. "Damn plastic shit." he cursed and fiddled some more.
"Kris?" Isaac's tinny voice came from the other side of the glass.
"Yeah?" I asked, looking up.
Ike laughed. "Can you give Tay a hand? He's incompetant."
I sighed and set my music on my stand. I reached over to grab the headphones from him, but he held them out of reach.
"I can do it." he mumbled, still fiddling.
I shrugged. "Fine."
I could see he finally got it right, and then Isaac gave the signal that we're recording.
The music sounded in my ear. I counted to the start and was about ready to sing, but the music began to warp.
"'I am-'" I sang, but stopped. "What the hell?" I asked aloud, looking over to Taylor. He shrugged.
I could hear a yelling and cackling from the sound room. The commotion calmed and then Isaac filled us in. "Zac thought it would be cute to edit the backing tape."
I rubbed my eyes, tired. I yawned, and slumped against the wall. "Man, we've been at this for hours. I need to go to bed."
Taylor just looked away, reading the lyrics.
I shrugged at his back. "Fine." Don't talk to me then.
Isaac's voice came over the speakers. "By the way" he said, his voice sounding angry "Zac has also lost the original backing tape."
Taylor pulled his head gear off. "Damn it, Zachary! You have to screw everything up!" he yelled and made for the next room.
I just pulled my gear off and grabbed my purse. I walked into the perfectly normal scene of Taylor bashing his younger brother.
"I'm going home." I told Isaac.
He nodded. "Yeah, not much we can do without the music."
I just smiled. "I'm bushed."
He stood and got out of the way of his brothers. "Foolish kids." he joked.
"Hey, I'm as old as they are." I protested mockingly.
He laughed softly. "You're more mature." He looked down at me, and I yawned. "You've grown, Kris, quite alot."
I sniffed. "Mmm. That's what the guy at the airport thought as well."
He grew confused. "What?"
I just shook my head. "Nothing."
"Okay. Hey, you got a ride?" he asked.
I just nodded, my eyes following the other two brothers.
"Cool." Isaac shoved his hands into his pockets.
I nodded again. "Well, I gotta go." I took my eyes off the others and looked up at Ike. It looked like he had something to say. I raised an eyebrow.
"Ah, well. You know..." he thought better of it. "You've got our numbers?"
I had to mentally dredge my conciousness for any recently recieved phone numbers. "Um. No."
He grabbed a sheet of paper and scribbled some numbers. "That's our home number... That's Zac's mobile, Tay's pager, and my mobile."
I just stared at the numbers. "Yeah."
