-CHAPTER 5-
I walked down the maze of halls and miraculously found my way back into the lobby.
A pretty girl stood at the front desk. Tall, thin with long thick, black hair. Blue eyes and a gorgeous smile.
I instantly hated her.
"Is Taylor here?" she asked in a soft tone.
I nearly froze.
The receptionist nodded. "Yes, Miss Taylor."
I snorted at the irony. A Taylor looking for Taylor.
The girl turned around and smiled. "You must be Kris! I've heard so much about you."
I just nodded foolishly. Too bad I couldn't say the same for her. "Oh really?"
She nodded, a strand of hair falling into her eyes. "Yes. Taylor told me all about you."
My heart suddenly sank. There's only one thing I could think of - Taylor and this girl had to be close. Very close.
"Australian, right?" she laughed. "I would die to go to Australia."
I can arrange for that... I smiled slightly. "Yes, we've been friends for quite a while."
She grinned. "Ah, well. He's such a darling. I love him."
I tried to restrain my eyebrows from shooting up into my hair. Okay... Love him. Hmm.
The receptionist spoke up. "When's the big day?"
I coughed.
The girl turned to me. "Oh, you must come."
I fiddled with the belt loop on my jeans. "Come?" I asked carefully.
"To our wedding." she chirped. "You being Taylor's best friend. The colors are white and light violet. It's going to be beautiful..." she went on and on.
All sound blocked out. What?? A wedding? My heart landed between my feet. I pulled my purse up higher. Better not act like a bitch. "When's the date?" I asked innocently.
She clapped her hands together. "August 15."
I nodded. "I would... oh, sorry." I shut my eyes, as if in great apology. "I can't come! I'm leaving the country on the 12. Oh, I'm sorry."
Her face fell. I think she genuinely wanted me to come to her wedding. She didn't even know me for Christ's sake! "Oh, that's horrible. Can't you come?" she begged.
Where did Taylor pick this chick up from?
She bit her lip. "Could you sing for us? I've heard your album and the guys rave about you. It would be an honor if you sing for us."
Lady, I just told you I can't come and yet you're planning my visit already. "I don't know... I would love to, but..."
She frowned.
I gave up. "I will try."
She smiled and turned back to the receptionist.
I walked out, and drove numbly home.
