The airplane ride was boring. That's all I have to say. Just "Would you like some peanuts? A magazine?" etc.
I was the first off the plane and into the airport. "Minneapolis." I read on a sign. "What the fuck is Minneapolis?"
"A city, stupid." Jessica teased and walked by. The rest caught up, and we headed out to the front. By this time it was night, but bright lights flooded the carparks.
I shouldered my carry on, and looked around for the usual van, but all I saw were two black cars.
"What's this?"
Taylor walked up, and squeezed my arm. "Our ride. We're separate." he whispered angrily.
"What?" I stood, staring at the cars as if they were acutally saddled scorpians.
Jamie brushed by.
Jess called out. "This is our ride. Get in." She opened the front passenger door of a black car and got in.
Jamie hopped into the back, and I followed throwing my carry on in and buckling in behind the driver.
"Why no vans?" I asked, though I already knew the answer.
"We have to be separate from the boys because of you." Jamie snarled and turned from me.
"Don't get bitchy about it, Jamie, or no one will want to be around you!" I snapped back, turning her words against her.
She stiffened. "Piss off, Kris."
"Would you two shut the hell up?!" Jess yelled back. "Mr Hanson said it was because he couldn't book the vans. So leave it at that."
"You piss off!" Jamie yelled back.
"Stop your bitching!" Jessica yelled back. "Just get over it, Jamie."
"She told you." I said smugly. "All you know how to say is 'Piss off'!" I mimicked with a whiney voice.
"Fuck you!" Jamie spat.
"Shut up!!" Jessica shrilled. "I don't know what the hell has walked up your asses and died, but you better get it out because there's no way I am going to put up with two bitchy band members!"
We shut up.
Jamie sang softly "Jessica's a cow... a pig... a bi..."
Jessica brought her hand behind her head and gave Jamie the middle finger.
I chuckled and ignored them.
The car started and our driver followed the car in front. I chatted with him.
Jessica fiddled with her ring and turned around. "Kris, let him drive in peace, for God's sake."
I sighed. "I was just talking, that's all." I pulled my lucky pillow out of my carry on bag and propped it against the window. I leaned against it, sitting in the car at an angle.
Walt Reese, our driver, laughed. "That's alright."
I nodded and pulled my necklace off. I turned the small pendant around, watching the light hit it at different angles. I grew bored in the silence and twirled the chain around on a finger.
It flew off and whacked Jamie in the head. "Stop it!" she glared.
I grabbed my necklace and sat still. It didn't last long and I twirled it again, hoping I could hit Jess. It flew over her shoulder, hit the door loudly, and fell into the darkness of the floor boards.
"Where are they?" Taylor asked, looking behind them to find the other car.
"They're there." Walker Hanson said from up the front of the car.
Zac joined Taylor and watched through the back window. "I don't see them."
Walker Hanson sighed. "Look, it's dark. They have a dark car."
"A dark Ford-" Isaac corrected, but his father cut him off.
"Whatever, Isaac."
"Is that it?" Zac asked, pointing to a set of headlights following. Isaac glanced over.
"No... that looks like the lights of a '91 Lincoln Mercury." Isaac said, turning back.
"Then where are they?" Tay asked, frustrated.
The driver piped up. "They may have taken another way instead of following."
Taylor and Zac settled back.
"Yeah, could be..."
I sat quietly. "Jess?"
"What?" she asked.
"Can you get my necklace?" I asked.
She turned and looked at me sharply. "Don't throw the friggin' thing around anymore, then!"
"Alright!" I said, glancing out the window. We came off the freeway and to some stoplights.
Jessica leaned over and felt around. "I can't find it." her voice came out muffled and she sat back up.
"C'mon!" I whined.
She sighed and pulled her arms over the belt and leaned over more, reaching farther into the darkness. I leaned over to direct her on where I think it went.
The car pulled out at the green light, and I sat up, goosebumps rising along my skin, the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. A pair of headlights blared out of the corner of my eyes, haloing Jamie's head. it came closer until I was blinded.
I heard a horrible noise and then my eyes flashed white, red .... black.
