Queen I (Released July 1973)
QUEEN I LYRICS!

Keep Yourself Alive
Doing All Right
My Fairy King
Liar
The Night Comes Down
Son and Daughter
Jesus
Seven Seas of Rhye

Interesting facts: # Most of this album was made in studio down time (that is, in the middle of the night with the cleaners).
# "My Fairy King" was the track that encaptulated Freddie's new name & persona. He told Brian that "Mother Mercury" was his own mother and he was going to become Mercury. Obviously, Brian thought he was being a bit melodramatic!
# This album has to be up there with my favourites, not only because of its rich beautiful imagery in the lyrics, but the music is so uncommercial and transcendental.... that's what I thought anyway!!

Queen II (Released March 1974)
QUEEN II LYRICS!

Procession
Father To Son
White Queen (As it Began)
Some Day, One Day
The Loser in the End
Orge Battle
The Fairy Fellers Master Stroke
Nevermore
The March of the Black Queen
Funny How Love Is
Seven Seas of Rhye

Interesting Facts: # This album was made in the same vain as Queen I, but on a much more ellaborate scale. One of my favourite aspects of it was the mythological theme that runs through the first 3 and a bit albums and finally ends in the amazing "Prophet Song" in A Night At the Opera.
# Fairy Fellers' Master Stroke is based on a painting, depicting a mythic scene.
# There's a theme of good and evil (esp in tracks White/Black Queen).. fully interpreted in my l'interpretation

Sheer Heart Attack (Released October 1974)
SHEER HEART ATTACK LYRICS!

Brighton Rock
Killer Queen
Tenement Funster
Flick of The Wrist
Lily Of the Valley
Now I'm Here
In the Lap of The Gods
Stone Cold Crazy
Dear Friends
Misfire
Bring back That Leroy Brown
She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes)
In The Lap of the Gods (Revisited)

Interesting Facts: # What a disgusting record cover, honestly. Sorry Mick Rock, I usually adore your stuff, but what were you thinking? For this shot, they were smothered with vaseline and attacked with a hose. The makings for any disastrous photo shoot, I say.
# This album is definetly a pre-quel to A Night at the Opera. There are even similarites between tracks (Flick of the Wrist - Death on Two Legs, Leroy - Lazing, Stone Cold Crazy and that Sweet Cheese Lady track eek). This album is only really ever appreciated by big fans.
# Queen's first ever "big" single was off this album, Killer Queen, describing a high class girl. I won't even link to my interpretation cause it's so wrong. I just wrote it to get a rise out of people.
# John did all the guitars on his first Q track, Misfire.

Queen: A Night At the Opera (Released November 1975)
A NIGHT AT THE OPERA LYRICS!

Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to. . .)
Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon
I'm in Love with my Car
You're My Best Friend
'39
Sweet Lady
The Prophets Song
Love of my Life
Good Company
Bohemian Rhapsody
God Save The Queen

Interesting Facts: # Extraordinarily highly acclaimed by music critics alike (mostly cause of the Bohemian Rhapsody thing). I find this to be an amazing album because of the contrast between each of the tracks.
# '39 is apparently the 39th Queen track ever recorded, I haven't been bothered to check. It's also meant to be about space travel, but I like to think of it as something entirely different.
# You're my Best Friend was written for Veronica, John's -then- soon to be wife.
# Death on Two Legs is dedicated to.... (haha), no really, Trident Management. The guys had real difficulty with them in the beginning of their career, as many bands do.
# The Prophet Song (my alltime favourite) is meant to be about Noah's Arc. It has to be one of the longest tracks - coming up to about 8 minutes and it also has this enormous a-cappella bit which drives my mother insane :D It's also very prophetic because it's the last song of the mythic character that Queen ever did. It's fitting that their last mythological song should be of a Christian nature as it ended belief in the Greek gods. Ahh, it's so great, the whole thing.

Queen: Day at the Races (Released December 1976)
A DAY AT THE RACES LYRICS!

Tie Your Mother Down
You Take My Breath Away
Long Away
The Millionaire Waltz
You and I
Somebody To Love
White Man
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy
Drowse
Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)

Interesting Facts: # There is a musical symmetry with the very begining and end of this of this album.
# A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races are named after Marx Bros movies, just in case you haven't noticed. The albums kind of complement eachother, but I find more similarity with this album and News of the World.
# White Man was written because of the 1976 Soweto riots in South Africa. I had only released this studying the apatheid and things like that, but the theme is so universal, it could have been about any racist issue. So powerful, just incredible stuff.
# Check out the contrast between Tie Your Mother Down and Leavin Home Ain't Easy. Gotta love it, Bri.

Queen: News Of the World (Released October 1977)
NEWS OF THE WORLD LYRICS!

We Will Rock You
We Are the Champions
Sheer Heart Attack
Fight From The Inside
Get Down, Make Love
Sleeping on the Sidewalk
Who Needs You
It's Late
My Melancholy Blues

Interesting Facts: # This album wasn't received as well as could be anticipated, due to the fall of disco, fall of mello music and the rise of punk and new wave.
# Queen actually contributed to the rise of the Sex Pistols. Some time in 77, Queen couldn't perform for some British chart show (TOTP, not sure, although), so the Pistols were there as a stand in. Disastrous? Perhaps, but it had to be done.
# Sleeping on the Sidewalk was merely a jamming session between the guys, they didn't even know it was being recorded.
# I found out yesterday All Dead All Dead was about Brian's cat.
# Spread your Wings was filmed in Roger's backyard in Surrey. Freddie was drunk. John was cold. Yea, and John stood on Roger's hand (by accident, sure thing).

Queen: Jazz (Released November 1978)
JAZZ LYRICS!

Mustapha
Fat Bottomed Girls
Jealousy
Bicycle Race
If You Can't Beat Them
Let Me Entertain You
Dead On Time
In Only Seven Days
Dreamers Ball
Fun It
Leaving Home Ain't Easy
Don't Stop Me Now
More of That Jazz

Interesting Facts: # Primarily recorded in Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland. Queen eventually bought this studio and used it for their group and solo projects. This is where the photography for their final album, Made In Heaven was shot. You can visit it now on tours and the like, or just play my game, which is a lot more fun (& cheaper).
# Lightning heard Dead on Time was taped my Brian's tape recorder during a storm in the above location.
# In case you hadn't realised, the video clip for Bicycle Race involved a vacanted Wembley Stadium, about 100 naked women armed with bicycles. You do the math.

Queen: Live Killers (Released June 1979)

We Will Rock You
Let Me Entertain You
Death On Two Legs
Killer Queen
Bicycle Race
I'm In Love With my Car
Get Down, Make Love
You're My Best Friend
Now I'm Here
Dreamer's Ball
Love of My Life
'39
Keep Yourself Alive
Don't Stop Me Now
Spread Your Wings
Sheer Heart Attack
We Will Rock You
We Are The Champions
God Save The Queen

Interesting Facts: # Not much to say about this, the first official live album from Queen. Recorded in various locations around Europe in 1979. The consistency is a bit dodgy but the critics loved it... at least I think they did.. Love of My Life was released as a single but it only got to the 60s in the British charts.
# Want to know what was bleeped out in the intro of Death on Two Legs? What Fred says is "This goes out to a real mother fucker". Why "real" was bleeped out? I have no idea. Bleeping it out makes for an accurate concert experience anyway! :P
# Personally, I generally favour the first disc a lot more. I seem to listen to it around Christmas time, along with Ace of Base while reading the Famous Five. Terrible habit I've developed. Track I totally love from this, Get Down Make love. Anytime.

Queen: The Game (Released June, 1980)
THE GAME LYRICS!

Play The Game
Dragon Attack
Another One Bites The Dust
Need Your Loving Tonight
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Rock It (Prime Jive)
Don't Try Suicide
Sail Away Sweet Sister
Coming Soon
Save Me

Interesting Facts: # First album to be primarily produced in Munich by "Mack". Queen were so enthralled by his work that he was commissioned to work on many later albums. That's who's referred to on Dragon Attack, which generally recounts the German clubbing scene while Queen were there.
# Alledgedly someone challenged Freddie to write a song that "would be an improvement of Elvis" (according to my brother anyway), thus Crazy Little Thing Called Love was born. In bathtub. In a hotelroom in Munich. It's strange, but it's an anecdote everyone loves to recall.
# Originally the band (discounting John) weren't into Another One Bites the Dust at all.. to the point where they didn't even want to consider it for the album. Good they did cause it's what broke the American market.

Flash Gordon: Original Soundtrack By Queen (Released November 1980)

Flash's Theme
In The Space Capsule (The Love Theme)
Ming's Theme (In The Court of Ming The Merciless)
The Ring (Hypnotic Seduction of Dale)
Football Fight
In The Death Cell (Love Theme Reprise)
Excution of Flash
The Kiss (Aura Resurrects Flash)
Arboria (Plant of The Tree Man)
Escape from the Swamp
Flash To the Rescue
Vultan's Theme (Attack Of the Hawk men)
Battle Theme
The Wedding March
Marriage of Dale and Ming (and Flash approaching)
Crash Dive on Mingo City
Flash's Theme Reprise (Victory Celebrations) The Hero

Interesting facts: # Evidently, this is the soundtrack to Mike Hodges' 1980 disaster Flash Gordon. You can probably pick it up for a few dollars on DVD somewhere, it's very dodgy. Timothy Dalton's in it too. Yeah.. that's about as interesting as it gets unfortunately.

Queen: Hot Space (Released April 1981)
HOT SPACE LYRICS!

Staying Power
Dancer
Back Chat
Body Language
Action This Day
Put Out the Fire
Love is Real (Song for Lennon)
Calling all Girls
Las Palabras De Amor (The Words of Love)
Cool Cat
Under Pressure

Interesting Facts: # This is considered to be the ultimate "love it or loathe it" album. Although fans seem to think that the funky and synthed-up Hot Space was completely unQueen like, I like to think of it as the perfect metaphor for their approach to conflicting popular culture vs individual style. Like I said before, albums like News of the World and Jazz weren't received that well, so when Queen made moves to commericialise themselves... they were like 4 years too late. Nice one guys.
# Album has a really "American" feel, both North and South. It makes sense because it was the peak of their career there. Love it.
# Body Language videoclip was banned. Any wonder ;)

Queen: Greatest Hits (Released October 1981)
GREATEST HITS LYRICS!

Bohemian Rhapsody
Another One Bites the Dust
Killer Queen
Fat Bottomed Girls
Bicycle Race
You're My Best Friend
Don't Stop Me Now
Save Me
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Somebody To Love
Now I'm Here
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy
Play The Game
Flash
Seven Seas of Rhye
We Will Rock You
We Are the Champions

Interesting facts: # Roger was severely cut since he didn't receive considerable royalties unlike his bandmates from this compliation. Despite playing percussion & wearing tigerskin trousers &c &c since he didn't write any of the hits. A similar blowup occured about Bohemian Rhapsody & his B-side of I'm in Love With My Car. Maybe you should've written a hit, Rog.
# American pressings have Under Pressure on this album. Bizarre.

Queen: The Works (Released Febuary 1984)
THE WORKS LYRICS!

Radio Ga-Ga
Tear It Up
It's a Hard Life
Man on The Prowl
Machines (or 'Back to Humans')
I Want To Break Free
Keep Passing the Open Windows
Hammer To Fall
Is This the World We Created?

Interesting Facts: # After taking 1983, Queen returned with an anthem type album, flecked with synths, mock opera and heavy guitars. Sound familiar? This -ahem- short album wasn't well received with critics since almost all the tracks were released, if not as A-sides, as B-sides... making it a bit difficile for poor fans.
# Freddie looks like a giant prawn in the It's A Hard Life video.. according to Roger anyway.
# There's nothing wrong with the album, I just find the whole thing a bit lacklustre... hmm

Queen: A Kind of Magic (Released March 1986)
A KIND OF MAGIC LYRICS!

One Vision
A Kind of Magic
One Year of Love
Pain so Close to Pleasure
Friends Will Be Friends
Who Wants to Live Forever
Gimme the Prize (Kurgan's Theme)
Don't Lose Your Head
Princes of the Universe

Interesting Facts: # This is generally considered to be the unofficial soundtrack to Russell Mulcahy's 1986 Highlander. You should check it out, it has Christophe Lambert AND Sean Connery. Fine!
# Princes of the Universe features Freddie swordfight with Lambert. Has anyone seen the interview with him in The Champions of the World video? Can anyone actually decipher what he's saying?
# This is the last album where band members exclusively write tracks, but it's a great thrill for fans to figure out who had considerable influences on certain tracks.

Live Magic (Released December 1986)

One Vision
Tie Your Mother Down
Seven Seas of Rhye
A Kind of Magic
Under Pressure
Another One Bites the Dust
I Want To Break Free
Is This The World We Created?
Bohemian Rhapsody
Hammer To Fall
Radio Ga-Ga
We Will Rock You
Friends Will Be Friends
We Are The Champions
God Save The Queen

Interesting Fact: # Critics MASSACRED this album, they hated the obvious post editing. I think Live Killers deserved more of that criticism since they fully BLEEPED out words. Yeah, they found it completely counterproductive to do a live show and just edit out all the ick bits. Tell that to the Pet Shop Boys, whose show is 99% prerecorded....

The Miracle (Released June 1989)
THE MIRACLE LYRICS!

Party
Khashoggis Ship
The Miracle
I Want It All
The Invisable Man
Breakthru
Rain Must Fall
Scandal
My Baby Does Me
Was It All Worth It?
Hang On In There
Chinese Torture
The Invisable Man (12" version)

Interesting Facts: # Khashoggi was some tycoon in the late 80s. You can look it up if you're really interested.
# On the Breathru videoclip, the polystyerine wall breaks before the train goes through it. The band were pretty embarrassed about that. The masked girl is of course, Debbie Leng, Roger's soon-to-become girlfriend...
# Really glad that the band returned to some mythological themes in the Miracle. Love the song and the kids on the videoclip are little cuties.

Queen at the Beeb (Released December 1989)
BEEB LYRICS!

My Fairy King
Keep Yourself Alive
Doin' Alright
Liar
Orge Battle
Great King Rat
Morden Times Rock 'n' Roll
Son and Daughter

Interesting Facts: # Most of these songs were originally intended to be broadcast on "The Sounds of the 70s" on Radio One. The guys had yet to be signed to a record deal, within 5 months Queen I was released on EMI.
# Queen recorded demos at the BBC right up until 1977 with the News of the World sessions. Although these have been widely bootlegged, several tracks have yet to be officially released.
# Orchestration of these tracks is generally sparser than that in the Queen I/II sessions... but a very interesting listen regardless.

Innuendo (Released Febuary 1991)
INNUENDO LYRICS!

Innuendo
I'm Going Slightly Mad
I Can't Live With You
Don't Try So Hard
Ride The Wild Wind
All God's People
These Are The Days Of Our Lives
Delilah
The Hitman
Bijou
The Show Must Go On

Interesting Facts: # Widely considered to be the most poignant of all Queen albums (aside from the posthumous Made in Heaven). Although all the tracks from this album are said to be written by the whole band, fans look at the lyrics context of what Freddie was suffering at that point in time. Videos such as "I'm Going Slightly Mad" and "These are the Days Of Our Lives" are also moving.
# Delilah was about Freddie's cat.
# I'm Going Slightly Mad & All Gods' People have been originally attributed to Freddie.. Headlong, I can't Live with You, The Hitman, Bijou & the Show Must Go On to Brian.. Innuendo, Ride the Wild Wind & These are the Days of Our Lives to Roger and the rest to John. Could've guessed it, huh?!

Greatest Hits II (Released October 1991)

A Kind Of Magic
Under Pressure
Ragio Ga-Ga
I Want It All
I Want To Break Free
Innuendo
It's A Hard Life
Breakthru
Who Wants To Live Forever
Headlong
The Miracle
I'm GOing Slightly Mad
The Invisable Man
Hammer To Fall
Friends WIll Be Friends
The Show Must Go On
One Vision

Interesting facts: # The album I fell in love with in 1993. How could you NOT fall for it? Its success unfortunately coincided with Freddie's death, November 24 1991.

Live at Wembleyy (Released May 1992)

One Vision
Tie Your Mother Down
In The Lap Of the Gods
Seven Seas Of Rhye
Tear It Up
A Kind Of Magic

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Made in Heaven (Released November 1995)
MADE IN HEAVEN LYRICS!
It's A Beautiful Day
Made In Heaven
Let Me Live
Mother Love
My Life Has Been Saved
I Was Born To Love You
Heaven For Everyone
Too Much Love Will Kill You
You Don't Fool Me
A Winter's Tale
It's A Beautiful Day (Reprise)
Yeah
Track 13

Interesting Facts: # These tracks were produced in the few months before Freddie died in 1991. They are largely reworked demos from the band's solo works. The band reworked it after Freddie's death and released it. It's also kind of obvious that the work is unfinished, consider, like, Let Me Live. Don't think Freddie, Brian and Roger sung just a verse each for the fun of it...
# This album includes both the longest and the shortest Queen track, that being "Yeah" comprising 4 seconds & the secret track which lasts for over 22 minutes. How did they do that?! Um..
# The Made In Heaven videos were "artistic" interpretations by young film makers with neither a clue or an idea what Queen were about. Luckily the album captured a beautiful Montreux scene which we continually associate with this breathtaking compliation.
# Let Me Live came from a 1983 session with Rod Stewart, You Don't Fool Me was from the Hot Space sessions. It's been rumoured A Winter's Tale was the last song Freddie wrote and Mother Love was the last song that he sung. Too sad :(

NB: Please note, Queen Productions that I am just a mere fan, recollecting and listing the great works of Queen, so please don't crack it. This is unauthorised and I bid you [fans and any other people] do nothing with this list. Bahawhaha.>
