Chloe sat in silence as she filled in a sign-in form. She had somehow miraculously found the office through the hustle and bustle outside in the main hallway and now here she was quietly filling in a form as the noise of school life, which had sounded so loud before, died away to a quiet whisper just audible above the slow clicking of a computer keyboard. Completing the final question, she stood up and handed the form in to a short, robust woman with big, black-rimmed glasses sitting behind a wooden desk. Her name was apparently Ms Wayward, or so it said on a small rectangular tag that was pinned onto her navy blouse. "Here is a copy of your timetable Miss err... Robinson" she announced to Chloe while handing her a sheet of computer printout. "Thank you" Chloe answered politely. "If you have any problems, please ask. Your first class is in Room C8, just go straight down this hall, turn left and you will see it. All the classrooms are labelled. Your locker #62941 is just outside this office. The combination number is right there on the piece of paper I just gave you." And with that Ms Wayward got straight back to sorting files. Sensing Ms Wayward wasn't going to explain further, Chloe walked out of the office, intent on finding her classroom. It was actually more complicated than Ms Wayward had explained. Chloe actually got lost a few times trying to look for C8. Eventually, Chloe arrived to the right classroom, or at least she hoped was the right classroom. Breathing a sigh of relief, Chloe knocked and opened the door. Stepping inside and looking around, she noticed that it was a Science room... and everyone in it seemed to be staring at her. A wave of nausea swept over her, Chloe never liked being the centre of attention. Actually she hated it so much she had always tried to avoid social functions ever since she was little. She was always the quiet one though, always kept to herself. Chloe often tried so hard to be more out-going.... not be so shy, but it never worked. "Miss are you in the right class?" a deep voice asked. The voice belonged to a rather old man in his late 60s who had stringy white hair and was sitting at the front of the classroom. "Is this C8?" Chloe asked him. The man looked irritated... obviously taking it the wrong way. "Look young lady, I'm in no mood to deal with your childish behaviour. You should know by now what room this is, now if you're in this class, stay, if you're not, leave NOW!" His voice boomed at her, temporarily stunning her. The man was obviously angry, probably because Chloe had disturbed his class. Chloe felt a bit scared and was thinking of a reply when a familiar voice arose from the back end of the classroom. "She's a new student Mr Cornwell." Everyone in the classroom turned to face the intruder, including Chloe. And that was when she saw Nick who was sitting in the back corner beside a blonde girl. Chloe silently thanked him for his intrusion. "And did I ask for your opinion Mr Carter?" Mr Cornwell fumed. "I think this young lady can speak for herself, don't you?" There was a long pause before Mr Cornwell spoke again, this time at Chloe. "Well don't just stand there looking like an idiot, go sit down!" Chloe immediately did as she was told and vacated into the closest empty seat she could find. Mr Cornwell started talking this time about something to do with bacteria and cheese, as if nothing unusual had just happened. Chloe got out a piece of screwed up refill and a green pen from her bag and frantically began taking notes, which really made no sense to her whatsoever. After 15 minutes of lecturing, Mr Cornwell told the class that they were to assemble into their "groups" and "begin work" they "reviewed on yesterday." Chloe looked in Mr Cornwell's direction, hoping that he would realise that she didn't have a group to go to. But all he did was scan the classroom, meet Chloe's gaze for 3 seconds and started writing in a little black book. Chloe decided she'd better sit this one out, since she didn't want another eruption from Mr Cornwell. She was just about to read over her notes and try to put them into some understandable order when something nudged Chloe on the arm. Turning she saw a group of girls looking at her. The girl closest to her was the first to speak. "Hi" she said "I'm Selina, this is Nadia, Laney and Katrina." The girl pointed to all the girls one by one. They all replied "hi" after their name was called out by the girl called Selina. Chloe smiled politely and said in return, "Hi, I'm Chloe." The other girls smiled and Selina replied, "You wanna join our group?" "Yeah sure" Chloe said. The other girls and Selina started talking and explaining to her what their project was all about, but Chloe wasn't listening. These girls were nice, and Chloe tried her hardest to comprehend what they were saying, but she missed her old friends... and her boyfriend. The girls started talking about clothes, which really didn't interest Chloe much. Sensing that someone was watching her, Chloe turned around. Her eyes met Nick's for a brief second, but she quickly turned away after she saw the blonde haired girl swooning all over Nick. Chloe had no idea that he had a girlfriend. No, of course he had one, what normal-minded 16 year old, not to mention gorgeous guy wouldn't have one? she thought. But then again, she had Shane... wait a minute, what was she thinking? Chloe didn't know what to think.
