AJ's alter ego, Johnny NoName, peformed a series of benefit shows last March and April to raise moeny for VH1's Save The Music Foundation. The mini-tour began in Los Angelos, California, crossed the USA, stopped in seven cities and wrapped up in New York City. AJ (um, we mean Johnny NoName) covered rock songs from artists such as Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine, Brian McKnight, Eminem, and Tonic. Though Johnny NoName was on the stage, glimmers of AJ McLean could definitely been seen and heard! He performed songs he had written for the Backstreet Boys, such as "If You Knew What I Knew," and sang George Thorogood & The Destroyers' "Bad to the Bone" playing off AJ's nickname "Bone." Fellow Backstreet Boys, Brian and Howie, made special appearances at various stops along the tour route, and their duets thrilled BSB fans of all ages!
In 1980, five-year-old Brian Littrell was hospitalized in the Pediatrics unit of Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, for treatment of a serious infection of the heart muscle. In 1998, Brian entered the hospital again to have heart surgery at the same hospital where he had been taken care of so many years ago. (You may remember back in 1998, Brian Littrell underwent heart surgery to correct ventricular septal defect, a condition that he was born with.) After his ordeal, he knew that he wanted to give back to the people who helped save his life, so he established a fun that would help children, like himself, who were born with heart problems. The Healthy Heart Club For Kids was born, and it has raised well over $100,000 to help those who are in need. Want more info? Yu can check ou the Brian Littrell Healthy Heart Club for Kids at www.sjhlex.org/brianlittrell.cfm. You can order special Club merchandise (all the proceeds go the Healthy Heart Fund), and get updated on Brian's activities with the Saint Joseph Hospital. But remember this is a charitable foundation, so please, don't send fan emails--save that for the Backstreet Boys websites!
Becoming a Backstreet Boy was definitely a dream come true for Nick, but his dreaming didn't end with the music! One of Nick's passions has always been comic books, drawing and sketching. Nick has told ALL-STARS on many occasions that he would love to put out a BSB comic book (he even started working on one himself a long time ago!), and with the help of comic book legend Stan Lee, he was finally able to bring his dream to life. The Backstreet Project is a comic book that follows the adventures of the Boys when they acquire superhuman abilities. (Nick has martial arts abilities; Brian can jump higher than any building; AJ is an expert marksman with any weapon; Kevin gains the strength to lift any weight and Howie can project three-dimensional illusions just by thinking about them!) It is also an Internet-based superhero site which will follow the adventures of the Backstreet superheros in "web-isodes." (The "web-isodes will launch this month, and will be an ongoing bimonthly series of the adventures of this superhero team.) "I've always loved comic books. I started drawing up some things a while back and every time I'd show them to the other guys they would say, 'That's great,' and then they'd pat me on the head and send me on my way. Eventually I discussed the idea of a superhero comic book with our management team, and everybody thught it was a good idea. That's when Stan got involved. He's a living legend and we were excited to know that he was interested in this project," Nick shares. Fellow Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough was totally supportive of Nick's interest. "It's been a dream of Nick's, so it's nice that it has worked out so well for him." If you want more info on the superBoys, surf on to www.backstreetproject.com.
Rumor has it that instead of heading into the music studio, Howie Dorough will be going into the movie studio! Howie has always been interested in acting (in fact, he met fellow Backstreet Boys AJ McLean at auditions when they were younger!) and lately he's been looking at some scripts and screenplays. Supposedly, Howie will appear in a film called Bloom, a coming-of-age story about a young Jewish man. Howie's role will definitely be a challenging one since Howie is slated to play a bully! Can you even imagine Sweet D as a bully?! (Just goes to show how good an actor he can be!) Now, before you start asking, Howie wouldn't dream of leaving BSB, so don't worry about that! You can be sure that his loyalty lies with the Boys.
It was bound to happen--Kevin, the oldest Backstreet Boy, announched his engagement to be married. Kevin asked his longtime girlfriend Kristin Willits to be his wife on Valentine's Day earlier this year. The two met in 1993 at a Walt Disney World cafeteria when Kevin was earning his keep as a Ninja Turtle, rather than a Backstreet Boy. Kristin was dancing in Beauty and the Beast at Disney's MGM Studios. Kristin has stuck by Kevin through thick and thin and Kevin felt that the time was right to make Kristin his wife. Rumor has it that Kevin will be married sometimes his month, but remember, it's just a rumor!
