Biography

Placebo are : Brian Molko [vocals, guitar] Stefan Olsdal [bass] Steve Hewitt [drums] It all started in Luxembourg.Brian was going to the same school as Olsdal but they didn't talk to each other very much cause of different interests. They were around 11 or 12 at the time. Then when Brian was 17 he moved to London to study drama untill suddenly one day, four years after, he saw Stefan at the subway.Stefan asked his phone number and the same night they both went to Molko's concert where Stefan was very impressed and decided to join the band. The drummer at first was Robert Schultzberg. He was a friend of Olsdal's who was coming to London to study music and since the band of Olsdal and Molko had no drummer they took Robert.Their band was called Placebo.Their were on Hut records at the time, and they started touring with Ash,Whale and Bush and after that they released their first single,Bruise Pristine, and then on Fierce Panda records,Come Home.It started getting bigger and bigger when they did gigs on places with capacity of 12,000 people, and festivals like T in The Park with capacity of 16,000 people. But then Robert was replaced by Hewitt cause he was still into drugs, something that the rest had stopped doing. The album, was released on June 17,preceded by the singles 36 Degrees and Teenage Angst. The latest single Nancy Boy was released on January 20 and they keep going with the new one, Bruise Pristine, due out next month. Molko's favorite bands are:Dead Kennedys,Sonic Youth,The Stooges,Fall,Joy Division, early U2 etc. He's not that much into punk.Placebo's song though have some meanings.Swallow, written in a state of non reality,is about losing all your drugs or being so wasted you must not forget to swallow.Lady Of The Flowers takes the name from the Jean Genet novel.36 Degrees has many meanings. It's called that bacause 36 is closed to body temperature, and the song generally it's all about body metaphors. One thing is for sure:Placebo know what to do and they do it well.
