Chemistry. 022705

Hallooo. I was thinking, yanno sometimes you just look at a person and you kinda just know that you'd get along well with that person? I wonder if that feeling is accurate or not.

Cuz I guess sometimes the person could be just naturally charismatic and charming and they induce that feeling in a lotta ppl, not just you. Or maybe it's all just up in your mind cuz when you think you'll get along with someone, you'll open up and be in like a happy, inviting mood, making them react similarly and it'll be easier to get along liddat.

So I wonder if it's really some kinda connection or it's just from the undeliberate mood change. Dunno, could be both I guess. Back to studying! :)

Unnecessary. 022605

Done. Rushed too much during my Mei Hua Dao cuz too gunjeong. Think all my stances went to shiet and the sei from pausing here and there also gone. Sigh. Anyway, least I pick up more experience in public performance. It's all about confidence, eh. Redeemed by breaking the two sticks no prob. Apparently I hit my senior's leg after breaking the sticks? I hella don't even remember that, too much of a blur up there. :(

Is it so bad to practice with a sword downstairs below my block?? I was practicing this morning and a police car comes and parks nearby to watch me. Some damn ass called the cops. Whatever.

Unproficiency. 022505

Hi.. Tmrw performing at the NTU Wushu Display at West Mall..scared. Not sure if my pattern is up to standard or not.. actually feeling quite unconfident. Got to perform Mei Hua Dao and break 2 wooden sticks.

Last week I tried breaking two sticks with my left arm, couldn't make it and ended up with a fat ass bruise (pic, not at its worst). Been rubbing it like mad to make it go away before tmrw. I broke with my right arm, but still ended up with a bruise tho smaller. I guess really don't have the hang of qigong.

Think lately I look like an abuse victim. Bruises and bandages all over my arms. After tmrw, nothing much planned. Looking forward to the chill time to catch up on studying.

Nothing. 021905

Hallo there.. Le ho ma?

Aiyah, can't think of anything to write.

Well, lately been busy with lion dance and school.

Alemak, really can't think of anything to write.

Kie la, bye bye.

Chu sai! 021005

Hallooo. Gong hey faht choy! For Chinese New Year, I went to chu sai! It was a whole day outing, like from 8 in the morning til 9 at night. We chu mostly at people's houses, whole bunch of rich folks. :P Tiring, but you get hella perks by taking part..like ang bao's, food, drinks (beer! :P), and you get to sit in the back of the lorry and hang out with interesting ppl.

Yanno, I kinda like looking at older people like 30's and above, especially yesterday with that lion dance troupe. It's like..they've got so much character written in their faces and their look. For example there was one guy, his skin is like tanned and leathery and his face is hella funny. When he smiles, his eyes disappear and his mouth is hella big and all the wrinkles appear on his face. His laugh is more like a cackle, so it makes him seem like a crazy ol' fool yanno? Hehehe but it's hella cool how his look matches his personality so well.

Younger ppl aren't so interesting to look at sometimes, cuz it's like hella ppl just try to fit the mold. Even if they're trendy or cool like, it's still like they're following a certain style. I guess young ppl's faces haven't had enough time to show what they've been through yet..what little character there is is overshadowed by the clothes they wear sometimes. I think older ppl tend to have their characters show through, no matter what kinda clothes they're wearing. Coolness ey?

P.S. I am one of the uninteresting young ppl I'm talking about :P.

Potential. 020405

Yanno how I wanna learn hella stuff? It seems like there's like only a limited amount of space in your brain, cuz if you don't do something for a while you kinda forget. So I was thinking it's not really possible to practice everything in a day or it'd be like 10 minutes of something, then you'd have to switch to something else already yanno? So is it more like you gotta hella devote to one thing (or two or three) for like say a year, then after you become semi-pro you move onto something else? Then you can say "oh yea, been there, done that". Then maybe after you've tried out everything, you can look back and pick which ones you liked best to stick with for the rest of your life.

I was thinking about this cuz lately I haven't been playing pool. Haven't been playing regularly for a long time already. Then I keep coming up with potential stuff to learn..like I've been watching some Korean movies n I think the language sounds cool enough to learn. I like how they have this khhhh sound like they're coughing up phlegm or something. :P

Or maybe having so many goals is not good either..cuz sometimes you just leave some hanging halfway. Then it'll be like the "jack of all trades, master of none" kind of saying. But then again I kinda believe that things that are meant to happen will happen, and eventually you'll pick up the things you're supposed to learn when the time is right.

Busy. 020205

Hiloo. Been hecka busy lately, or at least it feels like it. Been trying to catch up in my studies and study more, cuz CNY's coming up and I know I won't have much time.

I went up to KL the past weekend, spent time with my dad which is always fun. Brought back my airbrush set, so that I can play around and practice airbrushing once I get a hold of an air compressor here. Just seeing it brings me back to Johnny's autobody shop. :)

This is the fish that I airbrushed onto the right side of my car during senior year. I think Johnny cut me hella slack cuz while the other guys were fixing dents and sanding bondo, I was sitting there drawing up pictures to airbrush.

I wanna airbrush like a huge graffiti thing on a screen so I can hang it up on my wall, since I don't wanna paint directly on the walls. TIME is too short these days. Alriteoo, take care.

Priority. 012705

Hallooooooo. So I decided to drop one module from my workload this sem, cuz I don't really need that module now that I look at it. It was just one that I thought would be good to take (Ordinary Differential Equations) cuz it's applicable in a lot of areas, but blub blub blub. Now I have time to go and practice to become a super lion dancer and drummer! Forreal, add this to my list of goals in life. Also add stone carving, cuz I was at a temple in Ang Mo Kio watching a dianjing for two new lions and that temple had some pretty stone statues and pillars there. I think it'd be fun to learn how to carve stones. HOPEFULLY those are like hand-made and not made by machines somehow or my dream'll be damn shattered.

I have hella goals to accomplish in life, wonder if I can do them all. :) Keeps life fun! Anyway gots to get some shiet done before the weekend. Take care.

A HUGE pride. 012305

So the Singapore lion isn't like a merlion :P. The design is more realistically lion-ish than traditional lions, which are actually like kirins instead of lions. When their mouths are closed, the Singapore lions look nice enough but I think it looks kinda retarded when they dance with their mouths open for too long. I think they couldn't quite get the multi-racial music combination down tho. Cuz lion dance drums and cymbals are traditionally fkn loud yanno? But it seemed like they had to play softer so that it would not overshadow the Malay and Indian instruments. I mean like the drums were so soft they had to play it through amplifiers!

Besides the launch of the new Singapore lion, they had 318 lions performing together at one time. It was really hecka impressive when they were all lined up in rows along the field. There was this one old-school Hokkien-style lion with a flat, green face. When it was dancing, I was busting up like hell..but really it's hella cool tho cuz it's so original. My friend says only that one troupe still performs that style (in Singapore). My favorite part tho was watching them all chi si together in like one wave. It's really beautiful.

Really hella sum toong cuz I lent my camera to a friend for the weekend, and I couldn't get a hold of another one so that I could take pictures of all the lions together. I had to use my cell phone camera, which is not that great as you can see. Hope you can make out the rows of lions with the separation down the center for the VIP's to walk through.

P.S. Sometimes it's hard to keep an open mind and not feel hella jaded about certain things, especially things that you're too familiar with, but life would be hella uninspiring without an open mind.

Clean streets. 012305

Halloooo ey. What's up? Yanno, I've been keeping up with this jogging thing lately right? I usually jog with shoes on. A while ago, I read about barefoot jogging (at www.runningbarefoot.org) and I thought it sounded pretty logical yanno. Like if you wear shoes, they give you cushioning and what right so your feet are like weakass, but if you don't wear shoes then your feet will have to adapt themselves (along with your knees and ankles and what) and they'll be like stronger. I guess it's something that ppl with knee or foot pain, who can't run with shoes, try out.

Anyway, I don't have knee or foot pain, but I thought it sounded nice. Though like everyone I mentioned it to thinks it's hella bad for you or that you'll step on broken glass. I've tried jogging barefoot (well, with socks on) a couple of times for like 3km and it's okie, though I think my right ankle may need to strengthen a bit. It's hella nice to walk outside without shoes on cuz some floor surfaces are really nice to walk on; kind of like a foot massage. But I'm not gonna go barefoot outside my neighborhood..I'm not that oblivious to ppl's expectations. Crazy f**ker, walking around without shoes on... But really tho, it's not like there's broken glass and hazardous obstacles everywhere (at least not here, I'm not sure about other places), and your feet aren't THAT weakass.

P.S. Is it really possible for a person to run across America a couple times like Forrest Gump did?

Lions and drums. 012105

About 20 more days to go. Maybe if I up my lion dance skills enough, I can actually be helpful when I follow my friend's troupe to cai qing for Chinese New Year. I've been learning mainly drums, but I've been picking up the lion cuz of CNY. My friend's been teaching me lions and drums one-on-one since I can't make it for regular training this sem. His encouragement is hecka helpful yanno.

There's gonna be a big lion dance event on the coming Sunday for the premier of the new Singapore Lion Dance. Former-PM Goh once suggested that Singapore should have a unique lion dance so they went and developed it. I heard that it looks like a merlion, but that's only what I heard. Should be fun tho, think like more than 300 (regular) lions will be performing at once, for a shot at the Guinness Book of World Records.

P.S. You should not bake a pie without the metallic pie tin thingy to support it, cuz you will end up with a puddle of filling and pie crust. (Still yummy, but not very aesthetically pleasing.)

Smells gooood. 012005

Last night I was seriously demoralized. I had a class from 7-10pm and it's a level 4000 math module. It was the 2nd lecture of the semester. At first it was okie, but as it dragged on and on (really until 10pm) I got more and more sad and..unsettled until I was like hella ready to cry or beat the shiet outta someone when class ended. Nothing in particular..just had the feeling if I dunno if I can cope with everything this sem. But blah, of course I can cope. I'm not weak shiet.

Anyway, in other news: I have found some pumpkin pie! Wonderful, huh? I've seriously been craving it for a couple months already. Looked in NTUC, Cold Storage, Giant, and Carrefour, but never saw any, fresh or frozen. Then yesterday, I went to Cold Storage to buy some waffles and pancakes, then I happened to find some frozen pumpkin pie. I dunno if it was there last time and I just missed it or what, but good thing tho cuz now it's Buy 1 Get 1 Free ($11.75 for one) which is absolutely WONDERFUL. The only thing is that you have to bake it, instead of those easy ones where you just thaw and eat. The pie is baking in the oven as I am writing this.

Pui. 011605

Whew, at least I finished before midnight. I expected to be done with it in 3 hours or less, ended up doing it from 11am-11pm. Well, here it is! The new NUS NWP website: NUS Nam Wah Pai.

I started with the idea of the green color, cuz that kind of bright green is my favorite kind of color. Then the rest came over the next couple hours. The basic design was done, was just taking me a while writing the damn content. Waiting for the day when designing a proper website will take less than 3 hours for me to finish. Now I guess I should get to the studying that I originally wanted to get done today.

P.S. Check out my bf's page..he's been toiling away with Flash for the past couple days on it.

Bricka bracka firecracker shish boom bah. 011505

Woohooooooooooo! I broke my first brick today during my Nam Wah Pai grading! I took home half to keep as a souvenir. I hella thought it wouldn't break cuz of my last sucky ass attempt at breaking roof tiles (couldn't break 2, only broke 1). Didn't hurt except that I cut my hand a little bit, think I must've scraped the metal stand as I chopped down.

But my fellow red belter (now fellow blue belter) Victor the Future Doctor, said it's only a scrape with no foreign bodies lodged inside. But I only managed to crack the wooden stick that was hit against my back, instead of fully breaking it into two pieces, so I still gotta get the hang of this qigong stuff.

Also gotta work on making my patterns look nicer as always. I think Coach was talking to me when he was talking to us about doing each step nicely before moving onto the next step. Yuppo.

Jogging. 011405

Hallo there. So school has started and I haven't played erhu on the street. BUT I've found a nice place where I will play my erhu when I get a bit better. Near my place is this water canal thingy with a jogging/cycling track next to it and one stretch is quite nice and solitary, perfect to play my erhu at.

Anyway, so I have been jogging. When my mom was here to visit last week, we went jogging and amazingly I jogged for 2 miles without stopping, which I could never have done in high school. So that spurred me on to go jogging again (by myself) and I went for 2 miles again without stopping. So I'm kinda excited about jogging now. Hehe..but today I went jogging and I felt sickass after 1 mile..oh well. I'm still pretty enthusiastic about jogging for now.

P.S. The pic above is at East Coast, not at the water canal thingy near my house.

Bangkok. 122004

P.S. I don't think I'll be accomplishing the erhu goal before school starts.

Erhu update. 121204

I got my erhu! Actually almost a week ago, on Dec 6. It was so hella cool..the salesperson took the erhu down from where it was hanging on the wall and gave it to me so I tried playing it..and the sound it made was like the absolute ugliest sound ever! Like OOOGLAAAYYYY. Cool shiet. Seriously I was smiling like a crazy all the way home.

Erhu. 112804

One of my goals for this December 2004 is to learn the erhu (pics) and sit on the street and play (for people's pity and change). This sounds a lot like one of my other goals: to play the guitar on the street, which I have not accomplished yet. But I find that this goal is a bit different..mostly because I think people's expectations of what you're playing will be lower? I mean guitar, everyone knows guitar and how it should sound, if it's good playin' or not. Erhu seems like different, to me at least.

Hopefully before the time school starts again, I'll be sitting somewhere in Singapore with old-fashioned sunglasses on, with a Pocky stick dangling from my mouth (substitute for cigarette cuz i dont smoke), chipped porcelain bowl on the floor, playing away on the erhu, finding peace within myself. Keep ya updated.

P.S. I really do hope to accomplish this goal so dont be sittin' there laughing at me.
