Howie and Maddie walked down the street and talked about the incident at the bar.
"I am just so sick of men putting their hands all over me, just because I work there doesn't mean it is an open invitation to attack me." Maddie's voice broke. "If I didn't need this job so much I would quit.."
Howie put his arm around Maddie and kissed her forehead " things will get better, they always do."
Maddie broke away from Howie's grasp and looked into his eyes.."Howie I am so envious of you, you have the world, you get to travel and see the world, you never have to worry about money and you have millions of people who love you."
"Maddie it isn't all it seems to be, granted I wouldn't trade it for anything but sometimes when I am alone in my hotel room far from my family and friends, I think I would trade it all just to have someone to walk hand in hand with along a beach and look at the waves as they crashed into the shore, to have someone to hold and tell my inner most thoughts and desires to."
"Howie you can have all of that, you could have any woman you wanted.."
"Sure, there are lots of women who would pretend to love me, but deep down they love the money and the fame, not me..I need someone who loves me for me, who loves my little quirks like eating gummy worms in the bathtub or wearing wool socks to bed in the middle of summer."
Maddie laughed..." You eat gummy worms in the tub, I eat licorice...it is my favorite comfort food and when I want to relax I climb into a bubble bath, surrounded by candles, turn on Elton John Love Songs and eat licorice.."
Howie had the urge to take her face in his hands and kiss her but he held back..He didn't know how she felt about him, and he didn't want to ruin what they were starting....A great friendship.
The reached Maddie's apartment and she asked Howie if he wanted to come up for coffee.
"I would love to but we leave at 9 am tomorrow for Buffalo and I should get to bed." Howie looked at Maddie apoligetically.
"You are leaving tomorrow...that's too bad, I wanted to show you my favorite place...I guess I will have to share it with you next time you come to town.
"Well I cannot promise when that will be, we are heading overseas next week for 4 months.."
"Oh, well Howie it was very nice meeting you...I hope you have a wonderful trip and call me when you come back to Ottawa and we can go for coffee." Maddie leaned over and kissed Howie on the cheek and walked upstairs.
"Why does it always happen to me...I find a great guy and he is leaving

4 months...dammit.." Maddie thought to herself.
