Corporate Love

Author's Note:

"Corporate Love" was written for a dear friend who is a corporate wife. I was standing in a long checkout line at Walmart reflecting on some things she had told me about her life and being married to a corporate executive. By the time I made it to the cashier, I had woven a fantasy for her. I hope you enjoy it as much as she did.

Chapter 1

The woman strolled down the hotel corridor, sleek, well-dressed, and confident. She was the epitome of the perfect corporate wife, at least on the outside. Inside she longed to be wild and carefree. Her husband, however, was all business, treating her more like an employee than a wife. The only reason he had brought her along on this trip, she felt, was to act as his secretary. This morning he had brushed off her attempts to interest him in making love, telling her not to bother him while he had important matters on his mind. Furthermore, he had instructed her, she should find some way to entertain herself today as he didn't have time for her.

So she had entertained herself by spending the day, and his money, shopping. Now she was on her way to the hotel bar to meet her husband, and his associates and their wives, for drinks before dinner. She wore a deep purple silk dress with a mandarin collar and gold buttons down the front. It wasn't exactly corporate conservative but it was one of her new acquisitions and she liked it. It made her feel exotic.

As the elevator door opened, she hesitated. The only other passenger was an extremely handsome man. Normally she wouldn't ride the elevator in a situation like she, but he looked harmless enough, she decided. He nodded and smiled as she stepped in. She smiled in return and they both faced the door, watching the floor indicators light up as strangers in elevators are wont to do.

The scent of the man's cologne hung in the air of the confined space. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply. It was Cool Water she knew, her favorite. She had bought some for her husband for their anniversary two years ago. It still sat on his dresser, unopened. She glanced sideways at her fellow passenger before reaching out and pressing the "stop" button.
