Friendship Never Dies

~Epilogue~

Louis J. Pearlman was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Elena, with the help of all her friends and family, learned how to cope with her tragic loss and slowly, but surely, moved on with her life. The Backstreet Boys continued being the Backstreet Boys, but now a lot more careful, serious, and mature. It was only the four of them. They didn't want to find a new member. No one could ever replace Howie. They dedicated a song called "Until Then" and their sophomore album, Millennium, to Howie. It became the top-selling album of 1999.

"Hey, A.J.! Let's go!" called Brian.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming! Are you done yet?" A.J. asked Donna, their hair and make-up person, shifting around in his seat.

"Yeah, almost…there! Tada! What do you think?" She spun him around so he can see his new do in the mirror.

"Cool!"

His hair was dyed a medium brown and styled spiky. It looked…normal.

"I agree! I think it's the best do for you yet! Maybe you should keep it for a while!"

He shrugged.

"Maybe."

Then they looked at each other.

"Nah."

"A.J.!" Kevin shouted.

A.J. flew out of his chair and into the studio. They were at a photo shoot.

"Present!"

"It's about time!"

"Hey! Great hair takes time!"

"Yeah, alright."

"Um, guys? Would you care to join us?" asked Nick.

They walked over to the other guys and stood in front of the camera.

"Ok, guys," began the photographer, "Kevin, Nick, you're the tallest, so kneel in front here…"

Kevin and Nick did as they were told.

"Ok, and A.J. and Brian, stand in back of them."

A.J. and Brian moved.

"Ok, perfect…now, say cheese!"

*Flash*

"Very nice, now slightly change your poses."

They shifted around a bit.

Another *flash*

"Good. Now let's see how these turned out." In a few minutes the pictures developed. They came out VERY nice. "Hey, guys, check these out!"

The boys went over to look at the photos.

"Whoa! Are my eyes really that blue?!" exclaimed Brian.

"This is a really good pic. I think I'll put it up on my webpage!" commented Nick.

"Cool," stated Kevin.

But A.J. remained silent. He just stared at the picture.

"A.J., what do you think? A.J.?"

A.J. flew out of the studio and into his car, leaving the others baffled. He drove to his house, entered, and ran up the stairs to his room. He opened his drawer and took out a picture. A.J. looked at the new picture, back at the other one, and then again at the new one.

"B-b-but…how?"

The new picture had them in blue and white suits. They were in the same positions. The recent photo was the same one Howie had given A.J. in his dream, a long time ago. The only difference was that the new one had just Brian, Nick, Kevin, and A.J. in it. The other one had all five of them, with Howie, smiling, in between Brian and A.J.

A.J. smiled and stared at it.

"Keep the Backstreet pride alive, D," he said softly.

He put the picture of all five of them on his dresser, and took one last look, before walking out of his room and returning to the studio to continue doing what he loved best…being a Backstreet Boy.
