Chapter 11

"I thought the whole point of this book was to showcase their achievements during the tour." Abbie was on a conference call with her editors back in Los Angelos. They were discussing her columns and progress with the book. Abbie had spilled some of the rumors and gossip that the women from Jive had confided in her, to her editor Spencer and now she was trying to comprehend what he was telling her.

"Abbie you are leaving to tour with the band tomorrow. You will see first hand if these rumors are true or not. We could blow the lid right off of the boys' golden images. Just think how this could boost your career." Spencer left that question imbedded in her mind to ponder as he hung up the phone.

"What in the hell do I pack?" Abbie threw the stack of clothes she was holding on the floor in frustration. She had been trying to pack for over an hour but her concentration was not on her luggage but on her meeting with Spencer. She couldn't belive that he wanted her to dig up the dirt on the guys and then go public with it. She could never do that to them. The knocking at her door brought her out of her deep thinking. She signed for the very large package and tipped the UPS man. "what the hell is in here?" Abbie struggled to drag the crate into her living room and rested it against her couch as she eagerly ripped at the tape that surronded the crate. She ran into the kitchen and grabbed the scissors and proceeded to cut the rope that was knotted around the box. She lifted the gift out of the packing material and stood speechless as she stared at the painting. The painting depicted a woman with long curls standing in front of a mirror and reflecting in the glass was the ocean. Abbie searched the box for a clue of who the painting was from. Her fingetips touched an envelope and she smiled as she read it.

Abbie,

AJ and I were almost finished our tour of the art gallery when we stumbled upon this painting. We both stood there speechless. AJ later said that he had never seen a painting resemble someone so closely as this one did to you.

It is called The Girl in The Glass and it was painted in 1860 by Wilbert Bainstrum. The story behind it is that the woman in the painting is his daughter. Apparently her true love went off on an expidition and that she would stand in front of the window day after day watching for the ship that would bring him home to her. One day her father walked past her room and saw her staring in the mirror praying that the reflection of the ocean in the glass would bring an image of her true love. The look of love, peacelfullness and the hint of the unknown were the catalyst for the father to paint her picture. He said that he had never seen her look so grown up but yet so much like the little child that was hiding in her adult body. Abbie I think that the story closely resembles you. You are a confident and sucessful women but deep down you are unsure of where life is going to take you and you are afraid of failure and of the strange city that you now are calling home.

I hope that you like this and that it will hang in your house and make it feel a little bit more like home.

See you tomorrow,

Howie

Abbie held the note close to her chest and cried. She could never hurt someone as caring as Howie. She would forget about what Spencer had asked her and continue writing for the boys.
