Chapter 6

Abbie slipped the last pin into her curls and stepped back to get a better look. Her long, heavy and thick curls were pinned up and the few that managed to escape framed her pale face and gave her neck the illusion of being long and graceful. The dress she had bought that afternoon was a pale blue tube dress that reached her ankles and had a slit up the right side of the dress. She had brushed bronzing powder along her shoulders and chest to give off the effect of being tanned. Her strappy sandals completed the look. She blew out the scented candles that lit her makeup table and she turned off her favourite Amanda Marshall cd and walked into the living room to wait for the car that Jive was sending for her. Howie and Kevin had both offered to pick her up but they had interviews that afternoon and she hadn't wanted to make them rush, besides it would do her confidence good to walk into the party alone, instead of on a Backstreet Boy's arm. She heard the honk of the horn and walked out the door and down the steps.

Howie was talking to Tim when he saw Abbie walk into the room. His eyes twinkled as he drank in the beautiful site that she made. Her legs seemed to go on forever under the dress and the slit gave him a very erotic and sensual peek at her afore mentioned legs. Her shoulders were slender and held back with confidence and poise. He excused himself and walked through the crowd to greet her. "You look absolutly stunning Abigail Foster" he whispered as she leaned down to pick up a glass of white wine.

"Well I do believe sir that you are one of the most handsome men here" Abbie said with a mock southern accent.

"Come with me, there are people you should meet" Howie held out his arm and Abbie placed her hand in the crook of his arm and together they walked away.

"Seems that Howie sure has taken a liking to Abbie" Leighanne mentioned to Brian as the two danced.

"Baby you cannot even imagine, he has been talking about her all day, actually so has Nick and Kevin" Brian whispered as he gently brushed away a strand of her hair that was falling in her face.

"That poor girl won't know what to do if they all decide to vie for her"

"She is a beautiful woman and you know the guys, it will all blow over when they get on the road and see the thousands of other beautiful women out there" Brian pulled Leighanne in close and kissed her.

"Nicky you are too much, please stop" Abbie was breathless and holding her side, afraid that she would bust out of her dress from laughing so hard. The two were taking a break from dancing and Nick was entertaining her by telling hilarious stories about past tours.

"You had better get used to this because we are all going to be calling you every day to tell you about the tour, and then wait till you get to tour with us..get prepared girl I am warning you now"

Abbie smiled at the young blonde in front of her. Nick was so easy to talk to and he made her forget all the nervousness that she was feeling about her new job and meeting all the important people in the entertainment business. Her mind flew back to the observations she had drawn up that afternoon while she was shopping. Kevin was the one who she could talk to about her worries about her career. Nick was the fun loving guy who had made her laugh constantly for the past 3 days. AJ and Brian had not spent any important amount of time with her but she knew that they would be fun and easy to work with. She glanced at Howie talking with one of his agents and she could not help but smile. He was so full of confidence and the peace that emulated from him had transferred to her the minute their hands had touched. She knew that out of all of the boys that it would be her and Howie who hit it off the best.

"So Abbie have you been shown your new office yet?" Jeff , the Manager of Contracts asked her as they danced. Jeff was also new to the company and he was anxious to meet the newest member of the JIVE team, hoping that the two of them could ease into the company together.

"Can I cut in?" Kevin's smooth and dark voice interrupted the couple. "We are going to be heading out soon as we are leaving really early in the morning"

Abbie smiled at Jeff "see you tomorrow" She took Kevin's hand and slipped into his arms and they started to move to the beat. "So are you having fun?" she asked.

"I am not a big party person, I would much rather be at home watching movies or walking the dogs, just doing something quiet."

"You and me both Kevin, I am not a social person. I feel more comfortable in jeans and a sweater then in these fancy dresses. I guess you could say I am a tom boy who just never grew up"

"Well I am glad that this tom boy decided to dress up because you are beautiful" Kevin pulled her in a bit closer, but still left enough room between them so she didn't feel uncomfortable. "So are you nervous about starting with Jive tomorrow?"

"I am, especially because the only people I know are leaving tomorrow. Everyone seems pretty nice though and I am sure that they will help me settle in"

"They are great, and hey you will be talking to us every day. Hell, you will probably be so sick of hearing our voices."

"I am sure I won't, you have all been so kind to me and these 3 days have been wonderful." the music stopped and Abbie and Kevin broke away and walked to the table where the rest of the guys were sitting.

"Well I guess we should head out, we have a long day tomorrow and we need to be well rested" Brian said. Everyone got up to leave and hugged Abbie goodnight.

"Will you be coming to see us off?" Nick asked.

"Of course, I have to document this for the book...besides I won't see you all for a couple of weeks so I want to say goodbye to you all in person." Abbie hugged Nick "See you in the morning Nicky"

Abbie waved goodbye to the boys and walked over to where Jeff was standing with Nina, the boys' press secretary. "I think that a few of the boys are smitten with you" Nina teased. "A bit of advice if I may...don't get involved emotionally, you are here to do a job and the boys are your job."

Abbie laughed off the suggestion "Good lord Nina I am not interested in any of them , I came here to further my career, not fall in love. They are wonderful men and I am excited to work with them...that is all" Abbie walked away to get her jacket but turned around again "Trust me" and she walked away.

"She is fooling herself, sooner or later one of them will crack her" Nina muttered to Jeff as they watched her walk away.
