Eventually, the group grew tired of truth or dare after they had exhausted all the most personal questions and the most outrageous dares. It was only around midnight but no one was ready to end the small party. Kate reached into a paper bag she had brought with her and pulled out some drinks.
"Beer!" AJ cried.
"Oh she's definitely AJ's girl." Julie said.
"Huh?" Brian asked.
"We saw his refrigerator, remember?"
"Oh yeah, I remember!" Brian laughed.
"Nick, how much do you drink, anyway?" Kate asked.
"Oh, not much at all. I mean, I'll have maybe one drink every once in awhile, but I really don't like the way any of it tastes so I tend to stay away from it. I think it's much more fun to watch drunk people than it is to be drunk anyway. You know, I'm always the guy with the video camera."
"You don't have one tonight, do you?" Julie asked.
"Nah- I left it at home."
"Hey, Kate did you bring anything besides beer?" Brian asked.
"Yeah, I brought some Zima, a few wine coolers and a bottle of wine, but I thought I'd save that for you and Julie to have when you're alone!"
"Kate!" Julie and Brian both laughed, trying not to be embarrassed.
"Pass me the wine cooler." Julie said.
They group drank socially, but no, no one was drunk. Julie wouldn't let them drink more than two because they had to drive themselves home and she wasn't about to let them drive drunk. Nick didn't have anything except for some Mountain Dew. They decided to watch a movie from the pay per view service. Julie and Brian ended up arguing over whether they were going to watch Jackie Chan or Runaway Bride. Julie lost her battle when AJ and Nick refused to watch a chick flick. Nick laid down on the floor at the foot of the bed, in front of the TV. AJ and Kate sat closely, very closely, on the love seat that was on the other side of the room. Julie and Brian cuddled up on the bed. Brian leaned back against the headboard and stretched his legs out and Julie leaned back against him. He wrapped his arms tightly around her and kissed the top of her head. Julie tilted her head up to look at him and he smiled at her.
"Don't try anything funny, Littrell. I know where you'll be sleeping tonight."
"Ooohh! She's gettin' tough with you, Rok!" Nick teased.
"Yeah, I'm not sure if she's threatening you or inviting you!" AJ laughed.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" Julie said.
They sat and watched the movie and Julie had to admit at the end of it that it wasn't all that bad of a movie. When it was over, everyone decided they should head home leaving Julie and Brian alone.
"God, I'm tired." Julie said.
"Well, you've had a long day." Brian said, softly.
"Yeah, first my house is on fire, then I'm having a party in a hotel. Who'd have thought?"
"All in a days work!"
"So, you wanna help me find a place to live tomorrow whenever we can haul ourselves out of bed?"
"Sure. I don't have anything planned until next Thursday." he said.
"Ok." Julie yawned. "I'm going to put in my jammies and then I'm going to sleep!"
"That sounds like a plan." Brian went into his room to get changed and was laying down on Julie's bed when she came out of the bathroom wearing flannel boxers and a purple tank top.
"And just what do you think you're doing sleeping in my bed?" she asked, smiling.
"Trying to go to sleep with you!" he said, moving over to make room
for
her.
"Ok, I was just checking." she said as she climbed in next to him.
He
snaked his
arms around her and held her and soon, they were both fast asleep.
