"Brian, is that what you're so upset about? Do you think AJ and I have something going on?"
"Well don't you?" he asked quietly.
Julie laughed. "No! Brian, I want to be with you, not AJ. We're just friends and nothing more. Honestly, he's more like one of my girlfriends. I'm sorry- I didn't mean to make it seem like that."
"I'm sorry I was acting so jealous it's just that it seemed like you two were sneaking around, and then when this whole thing with Kate happened tonight, I was almost sure. I mean, you two lied to her about it!"
"I know. I never wanted to lie to her, it just happened. I hope AJ can fix things."
"Oh, I don't doubt his capabilities for a second." Brian laughed. "If there's on thing I know about AJ, it's that when he needs to be he is so incredibly romantic. Not as romantic as me, but he comes pretty close!"
"Brian, shut up!" Julie laughed. "So, is everything cool between us then?" she asked carefully.
Brian sighed. "Yeah, we're cool I guess."
"You guess?"
"Julie, let me ask you something. Just how serious of an item are we?"
"What do you mean?" Julie asked, puzzled by what could have brought all this on.
"I mean, how committed to this relationship are you? Are we talking summer fling or are we talking serious relationship?"
"Brian! I don't just have flings! Any relationship I get into is serious to me, but if you want a real answer, I've never been as serious in a relationship as I am right now with you. Why? How do you feel about us?"
"I feel the same, I just wanted to hear you say it."
Brian pulled Julie over onto his lap and held her tightly for a few minutes before he leaned down and kissed her ever so softly. If Julie hadn't felt his breath on her lips she may have never known he kissed her.
AJ quickly swallowed his shock and carried on with his plan. "Ok, if you're not going to let me in, I'll just sit out here and talk to you through the door for awhile, I suppose." he said.
"Fine. Do what ever the hell you want just leave me alone! Please!!" Kate pleaded with him hoping that he would leave.
He didn't leave. In fact, he sat down on the ground and leaned against the door. For a moment, he didn't know what to say so he decided to sing Hold Me off the new Savage Garden CD.
"If we can't find a way out of these problems
Then maybe we don't need this
Standing face to face
Enemies at war we build defenses
And secret hiding places
I might need you to hold me tonight
I might need you to say it's alright
I might need you to make the first stand
Because tonight I'm finding it hard to be your man"
AJ felt the door behind him slowly open and he rose to his feet. He turned around and saw Kate pooking her head through the door. "You mind keeping it down out here? You're going to disturb the neighbors and I'm trying to sleep!"
"Sorry. I'm here all night til you let me in. I brought your favorite ice cream but it's gonna melt soon." he said.
"You aren't going to give up, are you?" Kate sighed.
"Nope."
"You can't stay out here forever, you know."
"No, but you can't stay mad at me forever, can you?"
Kate paused. "No, I suppose not. If I let you in to talk for two minutes will you leave me alone?"
"Ok. Two minutes. If you don't like what I have to say, just say the words and I'm gone. Deal?"
"Deal." Kate opened the door the rest of the way and let him in.
