~*~Chapter One~*~

"Are you okay with the room?" Aunt Jackie asked me. I placed the last of my pageant trophies on a shelf. Aunt Jackie sat on the edge of the bed watching me.

"I love it." I half smiled.

"Carlon, I'm glad you're staying here." She said coming to my side. I'd been there two days and already I was being treated like some princess just because my parents were dead.

"Me too, Aunt Jackie." I looked around the room. You could finally tell it was mine. My mother's old director chair sat in the corner of my room. She had given it to me when I was six. That's when I knew I wanted to act. I sat in that chair and I felt special. Maybe it was just Mom.

Aunt Jackie and Uncle Harold had went through extremes to please me. All I really wanted was to part of the family. My bedroom was huge and it had a overly large bathroom attatched to it.

"Brian's coming in tomorrow."

"Who?" I asked furrowing my brow.

"My youngest son. Your cousin. He...he's a Backstreet Boy." She told me.

"Oh." Maybe it was the whole L.A. aura geting to my head, but I really didn't care. I didn't even know which one was Brian. I figured it out on the way down to dinner. Aunt Jackie showed me pictures of him and the rest of the band.

"He'll be here for almost a whole month." Aunt Jackie said while we sat at the table feasting on Hamburger Helper.

"Really?" I asked. At least I'd get to spend some quality time with my new family.

"We're letting the guys stay here while they're in."

"Now, Jackie, don't scare her." Uncle Harold attempted to joke. I laughed to myself. I was really starting to like these people.

"So, when will he get home?" I asked before taking a drink of my tea.

"Sometime early in the morning." Jackie informed. I nodded my head.

I tossed and turned in the darkness of my room. It was a little past midnight and Mr. Sandman must have lost his magic sleeping dust. I couldn't get to sleep no matter how hard I tried. I lay gazing up at the ceiling, and my glowing stars that I'd just gotten up that day. I started to make a wish, but decided it probably wouldn't do any good. I finally came to the conclusion that I was dying of thirst. I stumbled down the stairs in my favorite pair of Eeyore boxers and a matching blue tank top that hugged my body. I threw my hair into a ponytail as I entered the kitchen. I flicked on the light and tiptoed to the refrigerator.

Of all the soda and juice they had, I settled on a glass of tap water. Just as I was pouring the luke warm liquid down my throat I heard someone come into the room. I spun around initiating a scream from myself and the stranger.

"Who are you?" He yelled.

"Who are you?" I replied.

"I'm Brian. I live here." He said.

"I'm--"

"Brian, you're home early." Jackie ran into the room and embraced her son.

"Mom, who is that?" He whispered.

"Brian, this is your first cousin, Carlon. She's going to be living with us now." I smiled and semi waved at Brian.

"I'm sorry. It's very nice to meet you." Brian extended his hand.

"You too." I shook his hand.

"Where are the guys?" Jackie asked him.

"In the den watching some woman give birth to a baby on TLC." Brian rolled his eyes.

"Take your cousin in there to meet them."

"I don't know, Aunt Jackie." I said looking down at the great ensemble I was wearing.

"Come on." Brian tugged at my arm and led me to the den.

"Yes, baby, yes!" I heard someone yelling as we entered the den. "Push!" He said again.

"AJ, calm down." A tall, dark, handsome guy scolded.

"One more...yes!" The AJ fella continued.

"It's birth, AJ, not a football game." Brian told him as we entered the room.

"I know, I just--hey, who are you?" AJ stood quickly and removed his hat.

"I'm--"

"This is my cousin, Carlon." Brian said for me.

"Carlon." I finished my sentence.

"AJ." He introduced.

"Carlon, this is AJ, Nick, Howie, and Kevin." They all nodded as he said their names.

"Hi, it's nice meeting all of you. Now, I should probably get to bed." I tried hard to get away.

"Nuh-uh, you're not going anywhere." Brian pulled me back.

"Brian, I'm tired." I pleaded with my eyes for him to let me go.

"Please, stay down here. I just met you and you're my cousin. I wanna get to know you better." AJ laughed. "I wanna get to know you in my language not AJ's." Brian corrected himself.

"Okay." I agreed.
