I stepped off of the plane and walked into the airport. Tippy followed behind me on his leash. I looked around for a large, overwieght man that would qualify for Seth.
"Carlon." Someone called. I looked up ahead.
"Hi." I said confused.
"You don't recognize me, do you?"
"Um..."
"I'm Seth." He said. He'd really changed since I saw him at the funeral. I'm sure he'd knocked off some odd hundred pounds.
"Seth, it's so great to see you." I threw my arms around his neck. Then, his cell phone rang. How typical of Seth. I never once saw him without that phone glued to his ear.
"Uh, Freddie, I can't talk right now...yeah, that's still on. Well, listen, I'm at the airport--I had to pick up Carlon...Carlon Cole, Freddie. Would you just let me talk? Yes, Carlon Cole. Look, meet me at my place in twenty. Bye." Seth hung the phone up and looked at me apologetically.
"Freddie Prinze Jr.?" I questioned.
"Yeah." Seth casually said. I guess I was going to have to get used to all of this again. I hadn't seen Freddie since I was fifteen. He was only nineteen then. Now, I was going to work with him.
"So, where are we going?"
"Well, are you cool with crashing at my place?" Seth asked.
"Yeah." I answered. I remember when I was younger I loved when Mom would take me with her to Seth's. Then, his house seemed so huge. He always had lots of dogs. When I was about three Mom would take me over there just so I could play with the dogs. Mom hated them. That's why she never liked Tipsy.
"Come on." Seth led me to his Mercedes.
As I walked in the door behind Seth, I realized that his house had always been huge. Right in the foyer there was an oscar sitting in a glass case. My eyes hit it and I couldn't look away.
"That was your mother's." Seth told me. "It was the first award she won. You were...four I believe." I listened attentively with a smile on my face. "When she accepted it she said, 'I wanna thank my wonderful husband, my baby girl, who is reshaping my life in the most magnificent way ever and...I wanna thank my agent, Seth. This is for you.' That night, she said that I deserved it more than she did. I wouldn't take it though. From that day on, she always tried to leave it at my house or something like that. Then, when she...when she passed...I got the award and put it in this case."
"I miss her." I said looking closer at the oscar. In the middle of our moment the doorbell rang. Seth turned and opened the door. There stood Freddie. I turned to look at him, a bit shocked that I was actually seeing him.
"Carlon!" Freddie ran and picked me up and spun me around.
"Freddie." I said more calmly.
"It's been so long." He announced. I didn't even think he'd remember me. "How are you doing?"
"Good, Freddie." I smiled lying through my teeth. I suddenly wanted AJ there. I need him to hold my hand again. All these memories of my mother and father were crashing down on me fast. Again, it was too late to turn back. The phone rang and Seth left the room to answer it.
"Carlon, it's for you." He handed me the room and he and Freddie left me alone.
"Hello." I said.
"Hey, cuz." I nearly dropped the phone.
