"Man I feel 10 pounds lighter after that run." Allie opened the front door and collapsed on the hardwood floor.
"I am jumping in the shower." Chia ran up the stairs.
"Okay well I am going to take Max for run, since I am already all sweaty" Allie screamed as she hooked the leash to max's collar and was out the door.
~~**~~
Howie and AJ were watching with amused expressions as nick butchered his umpteenth blonde joke.." AND the bartender says to the blonde..." Nick started to snort with laughter.
Howie looked at his watch "hmm 11 pm, maybe I will head home." he thought to himself. Howie felt a warm breath in his ear and heard a voice behind him.
"Miss me?"
"Allie...I thought you were staying in with Chia tonight?" Howie turned around and smiled at Allie.
"Shhhh don't tell her, I can't stay long, she is in the shower and thinks that I am walking Max."
"Hi buddy..hmm do you know that you are an accomplice in this little escapade?" Howie laughed and rubbed Max's ears.
"Do you want to walk back with me?" Allie asked.
"As if you needed to even ask." Howie smiled and went to say bye to his friends.
~~**~~
The phone was ringing as Chia was stepping out of the shower, as she ran she stubbed her toe on the mahogany table her mother had fallen in love with at an auction last summer.
"SHIT!!!! Hello" Chia screamed into the phone.
"Hi baby.."
"AJ, oh I am sorry I stubbed my toe...sorry"
"Do you want me to come over and kiss it better?"
"You know Allie and I are spending the night in."
"Well than why are Allie and Howie walking down the beach towards your house with Max?" AJ asked.
"She's what...why that little twerp...AJ how fast can you get here?"
"5 minutes why????"
"Allie and Howie are going to get a surprise when they get here...now here is what I need."
~~**~~
"What an absolutley beautiful night outside." Allie exclaimed.
"There wont be too many of these nights left, once fall hits we are in for chilly weather." Howie said.
"I love fall Howie...Daddy and I were supposed to go horseback riding in Central Park next month to see the leaves changing, but I guess I won't get that chance now." Allie said softly. "I wonder if it is ever going to stop hurting, every time I do something I think of him and Momma.."
Howie turned to face Allie and brushed the red curl that had escaped her ponytail away from her eyes.." Allie you have to cherish those memories, don't try to fight them, if you start forgetting those memories than you will lose your parents, memories are the gift that your parents left you to help you heal, when you are down all you have to do is take a moment and remember a happy moment with your parents and your brother and you will feel like they have never left."
Allie smiled and placed her hand in Howie's and the two walked hand in
hand
down the beach.
