Allie was driving home replaying the memories of that evening when she pulled into her laneway. She felt the now familiar lump in her throat form asshe walked slowly up the laneway that her father had paved with her brother 2 summers ago. She put her key in the lock and was greeted by Max.
"Hi buddy" Allie leaned down and scratched the dog behind the ears like she knew he loved. She made sure to lock the door behind her, but didn't set the alarm because she knew that Chia would be home soon. She climbed the stairs with Max on her heels and drew a bath, she was chilled and knew that a hot bath would chase away the cold.
She turned on her stereo and was greeted by the warm sounds of Sarah MacLaughlin. Allie thought back to the past summer when she and Chia had taken their mom to see Lillith Fair. They had had such a wonderful time that day, she smiled as she picked up the framed picture taken that day. Her mom was sprawled out on the blanket in the grass and Chia was lying with her head on their mom's stomach and Allie was lying on her legs. They looked so peaceful. Allie wiped away the tears and undressed.

"Chia are you ready to head out?" Howie interrupted his friend to ask Chia if she was ready to be driven home, Howie was tired and to be truthful he was bored now that Allie had left.
"Actually Howie I think I am going to stay here with AJ." Chia smiled at Howie.
"That's cool, just promise me that you guys are not leaving the house. Neither one of you are in any condition to drive." Howie was concerened, the last thing he wanted to do was to lose someone else he loved.
"I promise D..." AJ smiled reassuringly at his best friend.
"Okay, I will see you tomorrow Bone, bye Chia.."
"Howie can you do me a favour and call Allie and let her know I am crashing here?" Chia asked.
"Sure" Howie replied with a smile, "it will give me an excuse to talk to her again." Howie said goodbye and as he was walking out the door he pocketed AJ's keys to be safe.

"In the arms of an angel, far away from here..." Allie was surronded by candles and bubbles as she sang along with Sarah...She loved Sarah's voice, it was haunting, yet soothing..She was interruppted by the ringing phone...
"Damn...she reached her bubble covered hand out of the tub and searched around on the floor for the cordless phone.
"Hello.."
"Hi Allie, I hope I didn't wake you." Howie was nervous, he did not want to seem to pushy or desperate.
"Howie?? No I am just taking a bath trying to unwind before bed." Allie smiled as she listened to the soothing voice on the other end of the phone.
"Chia asked me to call you, she is crashing at AJ's, don't worry though I took his keys so they cant drive.."
Allie chuckled "That is so sneaky, that is something I would do...Howie while we are on the phone I just wanted to say thank you.."
"For what?"
"I have not had a smile on my face since mom and dad died, since I met you today, I have been on perma grin...I just wanted you to know how good it felt to be normal and have fun, and I have you to thank for it.."
Howie was blushing on the phone and trying to figure out the words to say.."Umm, you don't have to thank me, my god I loved having you and Chia hang out with us, you girls are a lot of fun, and actually I was hoping that maybe we could get togther again.." Howie stopped and held his breath, he really didn't wan to get shot down..
"I would love that...when?"
"How about you and I go to the Sarah McLaughlin show tomorrow night....We met her at the awards show last year and whenever we are in the same town I try to go and see her...she has the voice of an angel.."
"Howie I would love to, I tried to get tickets but they were sold out..I love Sarah..."
"How about I pick you up at 5 and we ca go out to this little Thai resteraunt I just discovered.."
"Thai, how exotic of you, I have never had thai food....sure that would be great, that gives me time to cramp my brain at the library tomorrow." Allie yawned.
"Well miss you have a full day tomorrow and I suggest you rest up for it.."
"I am heading off to bed now...and you know what Howie I had so much fun I don't think I will need a sleeping pill tonigh, you wore me out."
"Allie you have not seen anything yet...good night.." Howie whipsered into the phone
"Sweet dreams Howie." Allie was smiling as she hung up the phone and stepped out of the tub..
"Well Daddy, I always told you that I would never date until I could
find
someone who was as close to being you as possible...well Daddy I think
I
might have found him." Allie toweled off and blew out the candles.
She climbed into her old bed with the patchwork quilt and was soon fast
asleep.
