"Baby?" Nick stood in the doorway watching his girlfriend towel off.
Kim Ann turned and smiled, the towel that was rubbing her hair, poised in midair "Hi Nicky, were the kids okay about staying at Denise's?"
"Are you kidding me, oh my god sometimes I swear they love her more than us"
Nick laughed and wrapped his arms around her damp waist. "How was work?" he asked and then tilted his head down to kiss her.
"Hectic as always" Kim Ann looked over Nick's shoulder at the clock on the wall "Baby we need to get to Jessi and Howie's, you know how he will freak if we are late and he has to keep the food cooking. We will never hear the end of it if we are the cause of the meat being too tough" Kim Ann smiled and kissed Nick, then pulled out of his embrace.
Nick grabbed her and tipped her face so that she was forced to look at him
"You have been running from me and THE conversation for the past month. I am sick of waiting, baby I want to talk NOW"
"Nick this is not the time baby, please we can talk about this later" Kim Ann pleaded.
"It's always later, but you know what Kim Ann later has just become now. We are going to talk about this. It is killing me. Baby you love me, I love you, why can't you marry me?" Nick held her at an arm's length and stared at her. "Tell me, baby I love you and I can handle anything you want to tell me. Please Kymmi" Nick's eyes welled with tears.
"Nick...baby...oh god I can't do this" Kim Ann buried her face in his chest."Just trust me when I tell you we will be happier if we don't get married."
"WHY...Why will we be happier. You can't just say that and then not give me a reason."
Kim Ann took a deep breath "I can't marry you because of the Backstreet curse" she stood in front of her boyfriend and waited for his reaction. She was not prepared for him to burst out laughing. "I AM GLAD YOU FIND THIS SO AMUSING...I POURED MY GODDAMN HEART OUT TO YOU AND YOU LAUGH AT ME" Kim Ann slapped her boyfriend and ran out of the room.
Nick caught her before she ran downstairs. "Baby I didn't mean to laugh, oh my god Kymmi I am sorry, but a curse...honey that is nonsense"
"Nick look at the facts. Skylar and Kevin had this magical love affair, they get married, have kids and she cheats on him and now they are seperated. Jessi and Howie are married and now they mysterously cannot have children. Brian and Leighanne got married and she starts having bad luck with movie roles" Kim Ann took a breath and continued "Molly was in remission until AJ proposed to her and then she got sick again and well we all know how that story ends. Baby look at us. We were happy, happier than any of our married friends. We had two beautiful children and great jobs. We get engaged, I get pregnant and I lose the baby...Can't you see what I am saying?"
Nick looked at his girlfriend who was shaking with fright and pulled her into his arms "All I know is that I love you and I want to spend forever with you. If a curse is going to try to stop us from being happy I will fight forever so that we can be together. Baby if you don't want to get married then I guess I can handle it, as long as you are by my side I can handle anything" Nick kissed his girlfriend and walked over to the bed and pulled her down on top of him.
"Nicky, Howie's meat, the barbeque, oh my god" Kim Ann moaned as Nick started to trace a path with his tongue down her neck.
"The meat can wait, I can't" Nick whispered as the couple fell into an
embrace.
