Chapter 3

Howie ran his hand up and down his wife's bare arm as he stared up at the celing. Jessi was sleeping soundly as her soft even breathing signalled. They had come home and made love for most of the evening and then spent the majority of the early morning hours talking. Howie had once again brought up the topic of beginning a family and Jessi had immedialty offered up the same excuses that she had been for the past four years. Howie longed to have a child to call his own. He had watched Kevin, Brian and even Nick become fathers and he saw first hand how it changed their lives and how happy they were. His heart ached to hold a child in his arms and know that it was his. "Jessi what do I have to do to make you change your mind?" he whispered and closed his eyes.

"Momma..my throat has an owie, momma" Kim Ann turned over to see her daughter holding her throat and crying.

"It's okay pumpkin I will go get you some ice to suck on..I will be right back" Kim Ann fumbled to to get out of the bed, still half asleep.

"Baby you have been working so hard and you need your rest, I will go" Nick touched his girlfriend's back and smiled. "Come on little lady you and I will go down and have some popsicles" Nick scooped his daughter into his arms and walked downstairs into the kitchen with her. "You sit here but don't tell mom" Nick smiled as he sat Molly down on the counter. "Mom will yell at dad and make him sleep on the couch if she finds out" Nick searched through the freezer and handed his crying daughter an orange freezie pop. "This will take the owie away" and he was rewarded with a huge smile from his daughter.

Kevin tossed and turned trying to get comfortable. He was trying not to wake his sleeping wife and he need not worry as the huge space between himself and her was enough to ensure that they did not touch. He had tried to talk to her in bed but she had simply informed him that she was tired and had a headache. Kevin turned to face the window and his eyes fell on the framed family picture on the wall. He smiled lovingly at the picture of his children. Hannah looked so much like him and she was so grown up for an eight year old, Aiden, aged 5 had a combination of himself and Skylar, Megan with her dark curls and big brown eyes was 4, Sarah was 3 and Zach was 2. His children were his constant source of pride and joy. Everyone was excited about the pregnancy and were anxiosly awaiting the arrival of the last Richardson baby. The day that Skylar and Kevin had found out that they were pregnant with their sixth child they had looked at each other and at the same time announced that this would be the last baby. "Baby please tell me is wrong with you." Kevin pleaded with his wife in his mind, praying that he could crack the tough exterior that she had built up around herself.
