Duncan Sheik, Humming.
-------------------------------------
On his sophomore outing, this rising singer/songwriter jumps from social
commentary to romantic ruminations on a backdrop of richly orchestrated,
atmospheric art-pop. Lush, gorgeous pop with artful touches of exotica and
psychedelia.
What does Duncan have to say about his songs?
This is what he has to say about "That Says it All"
"The thing about Dylan and Lennon," Sheik told MTV News, "is that they
are the two examples of artists in the pop music world who really made
very intensely powerful social commentary ... And that song is
interesting because -- and I don't know if people are actually getting
it -- it is in some way an homage to them, but it's also kind of a
protest song."
"'Cause what I'm saying," he continued, "is that although they made
great music, maybe even the best music ever, that doesn't mean that
there's not great things still left to be done, and great ideas yet to
come. When I say 'That Says It All,' it's facetious. The concept [for
the song] is that there's this whole incredible world, full of mysteries
and wonder, and you have to continually seek that stuff and not just
focus on the past."

Be prepared for a departure, everyone.
Duncan himself said that this album will be a reaction to the last one. Duncan's going to be forging even more paths for himself to travel on.
A short blurb by Billboard on his first single entitled "Bite Your Tongue":

Sheik has been eager to move past his yearlong 1997 hit ``Barely Breathing''
for a while now, and this harder-hitting pop/rock track has the charm to
conjure up interest in his evolution. ``Bite Your Tongue'' is a better
representation of what the strummer is really about. Sheik truly sounds better
than ever, with a crisp, fired-up vocal and slick chorus that'll stick in your
mind. A welcome return to form and a fine, fine effort from his forthcoming
collection, ``Humming.''
And from a good friend of mine:
Pop crooner Duncan Sheik's next album, Humming (Oct. 15), will feature a
tribute to late singer Jeff Buckley entitled "A Body Goes Down." Sheik co-produced the
album with Rupert Hine (Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks).

Here's what Atlantic has to say about Duncan lately:
*DUNCAN SHEIK HUMS A NEW TUNE ON OCTOBER 6th*
Duncan Sheik's new album HUMMING will be released on October 6th. As a
testament to his continuing artistic growth, the New York-based
singer/songwriter took on the role of co-producer through much of the
recording process.
His partner behind the boards was, once again, the
renowned Rupert Hine (Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush, The Waterboys, Rush), who
produced the artist's gold debut, DUNCAN SHEIK. Duncan performed the
album's first single, "Bite Your Tongue," on the season premiere of
Fox-TV's Beverly Hills 90210. The show garnered a 15.0 rating and was
seen by 14 million people. After the show, Fox was deluged with calls
asking about Duncan and his album. With HUMMING, Sheik shifts to a more
band-oriented expression, characterized in part by a stronger drum
presence, combined with lush string arrangements. While complemented by
a wealth of diverse instrumentation, the artist himself performs, not
only on guitar, but slide and piano. Hine steps out from the control
room to add his own piano and harmonium parts. A headlining club tour of
North America is slated to begin in November.
