When this CD came out in 1988, it was a massive seller. It wasn't copied
from the well known Tangie Town Records LP Rock Is Dead but from a high
quality tape. At that time nobody knew it contained cut versions of the
poetry and Rock Is Dead. Today we know better - just check Missing Links
(Memorec 403) and Jim Morrison - The Lost Paris Tapes (Jomo 3.5471.1). But
for the Felt Forum tracks this CD is still a fine product. Light My Fire
is in excellent quality, and the intro 'When I was back there ...' was
used for the official Absolutely Live album, which later got published on
CD as In Concert. The CD was made in Germany, mastered in Austria and got
the copyrights cleared in Italy... a nice European product. Strange noise
reduction system, though.

If there wasn't a nasty cut during The End at 7 minutes 25 seconds (about
5 minutes of instrumental solos got cut out for no obvious reasons), this
US bootleg CD would be absolutely perfect. The whole thing looks
marvellous: a perfect fold-out cover plus a nicely designed inlay
featuring photos from the official Isle Of Wight video. The disc is in
hifi stereo and features the entire concert including the complete
announcement and the song Roadhouse Blues, which many people attending
that festival remembered but stayed unpublished on all previous bootleg
releases of that concert. It is - as usual for this song - a powerful,
driving version featuring Robby's great guitar solo, which I like better
than on the studio version. Jim does his "cha-cha-luga-rap" in the middle
break, like on the version published on In Concert. Unfortunately Palace
Of Exile is a very rare disc, just available in the States, and it is very
expensive. Despite that, it is a very recommended new release (compare it
to the Tangie Town release called First Flash Of Eden TTR 9002, as
reviewed in DQ 33, pages 15 and 16).

Sometimes I think it's a crime throwing all those great songs together, putting
them out of their original context of their original releases. The same goes
for Greatest Hits - compilations. But anyway, another A Priori release with
a nice cover, containing songs everybody already has. This is a low price
CD, widely distributed in Germany.

Although the cover of this CD looks very unusual (a "flying" Jim Morrison

contains material that many fans will already know. About half of the

already widely spread among fans. Besides that, this original US disc is
pretty expensive in Europe; therefore you might not really need it.

Although everybody should have heard the stuff before, this collection of
songs is pretty well selected. I enjoy the quality of the different tapes
the bootleggers used and I simply love the cover. Good exciting songs on
this CD, not interesting for insiders who have already got Jim's Alive
(Tuff Bites T.B.94.1009), Vancouver 70 (Skeleton SKCD 1066) or Canadian
Nights (Buccaneer Records BUC 011) or Live In Vancouver (Sounds Alive SA

perfect addition to the official In Concert double CD. It took some time
finding out the sources: they are not mentioned on the cover, but - as
I've said - nothing new for the hard-core fan.

One of the worst Doors CDs ever! Same rubbish as Archangel and The Future
Is Murder, made by the same bootlegger using a different name. Another
digipack, looking pretty average, but the CD is a horror for the real fan.
This bootlegger honestly wants to tell us that five songs on this CD were
recorded in New Orleans, December 12th 1970! No, they certainly aren't,
Sir, and we're not gonna take it. A first-rate rip-off, and we can be sure
this idiot (or is he just clever?) is going to produce some more of this
shit. He overdubbed studio songs from the Weird Scenes Inside The Goldmine
album plus spoken poems from the Requiem For The Americas album, which is
still out on CD and LP (Requiem For The Americas, Songs From The Lost
World, Enigma Records 773354-2, 1989), with some fake audience noise and
bang: It was "recorded LIVE in New Orleans"! He mixed Jim's voice onto
other songs (spoken stuff runs too slow, by the way) which gives a
horrible uneven blend. Like on The Future Is Murder (Alien Records 006)
all songs and poetry have been published before and are still easy to
obtain on original albums or bootleg CDs. This shabby CD is not worth a
penny! Treat it like dogs' shit!

I like the combination of the songs, and this CD sounds pretty powerful

Although this box looks pretty nice, I think it is a must to avoid. First
of all, it presents material most of you already have. Then, just check
the sources - much of the material is presented twice in this box - those
silly bootleggers didn't even notice they doubled many Vancouver and
Seattle tracks! This means they didn't even listen to the tapes and CDs
before they copied them for their release! The soundquality is much better
on other releases. And the 20-page booklet that they call "The Doors -
Instant Picture Book" has got nothing to do with The Doors at all, but
shows Kennedy, Warhol, Martin Luther King, John Wayne (!) and others,
accompanied by silly texts. The CDs have some of the same pictures as
shown in the booklet (first time I see Pamela Courson, Morrison's
girlfriend, on a CD). The tasteless cover of the box (Jim at the
microphone with angel's wings on his back) should tell everybody: Keep
your hands off! Sneak away without buying this horror box!

This disc containing both original albums on one CD looks very official
but is a Russian bootleg made without licence. On the label there is no
Elektra logo and the line "Just for Russia". The order number got borrowed
from the legal Australian double CD release Morrison Hotel and L.A. Woman.
