A Force You Want to Relinquish-Chapter 6
Daniel awoke with a start. He was back on his own couch, in his house. The
crickets chirped beyond the window, but other than that all was silent.
Daniel jumped from the couch and ran to the kitchen, catching a glimpse of the
gleaming necklace in the mirror. " Oh, that is it. You're gone," he hissed
and picked up a pair of scissors from the table. He placed the jaws on the
necklace and caught the chain in a fierce vise. He pushed, with all his
might, and yet only a small sector of the necklace chain surrendered to
breakage. More came over time as Daniel pressed harder, and harder, until it

"Daniel! NO!!!" a scream pierced the night and a luminous body swooped from
the ceiling, ripping the scissors from Daniel's hands, scraping his throat

What is it, who are you?" words tumbled from Daniel's mouth chaotically. She
looked into his eyes.
" Daniel, you can't cut that necklace. It would take us both. I am Meredith
Rose, and I..." her voice trailed off as her figure faded. " The necklace...
Daniel, I will return," and she was gone.
Daniel sunk into the chair, his pulse racing and he was breathing hard. He
picked up the phone and dialed Darren's number. In the quiet of Darren's
house, the phone shattered the peace and Darren picked it up angrily. "
Calls, at this hour. This better not be a prank."
" Darren," Daniel gasped into the receiver in hysterics.
" Daniel, what are you-"
" Look, I know this is going to sound unreal, but that necklace, it's got
something. There was this girl, she was like, a ghost, and it was no dream."
Darren rolled his eyes. " Daniel, you're just seeing things. Go back to bed,
you're not well," said Darren. " Darren..." but he was already off the line.
Daniel managed little sleep for the rest of the night. He was a skeptic, but
it was just all to strange to deny it...
