They met when Daniel(19) and his band(RedEdge) put an add in a news paper in 1992 looking for a singer and that's where Darren(20) comes in. Even though Darren's voice wasn't the best during his audition(ie - cracking, wavering) the guys still clicked. They both knew they had something that worked. After abit they two guys broke away from the other band members and worked by themselves. The two spent two years playing in pubs and clubs around Australia. They made a decision to focus on music full time in 1994. They started writing and singing their own songs. They soon had their 'desided' to get a record deal. They never thought of if they were or weren't or even how they were going to get it but they were determined. They sent out demo tapes under the name 'Bliss' and just around last year they did get a record deal(see what sticking to something can accomplish!!!)

Their name 'Savage Garden' comes from an Anne Rice novel(you know the one who did that book 'Interview With The Vampire'(later turned into a kewl movie)) Quote Darren, "Anne talks about the world as a savage garden. There are two levels. One is beautiful but in the other, underneath, we're all savage beasts. WE thought that was quite fitting - but we don't want to sound too poncy. It's all just pop music!" Quote Daniel, "Originally, we had about four names. Like Dante's Inferno and Bliss. But every name we chose was already taken - it was really frustrating."
