Chapter Two: The First Meeting

"That was a great concert!" Catherine exclaimed. "Come on! Admit it Vanessa!"

"It was pretty great," Vanessa said. "However much that hurts to admit."

"Lets go find Jeff,"Catherine said, pulling Vanessa from her seat.

"Alright," Vanessa sighed. The guys had been so full of energy, their harmonies had been so smooth, that she was full of life herself now. But still embarassed to be at the concert.

"Come on, girls," Jeff said. He led them to a lounge backstage. There were about ten other people backstage. About six of them were under 15. The other four were their parents.

"Again, I feel old," Vanessa mumbled. "And REALLY immature."

"Shut up!" Catherine ordered. "They're coming."

"Are you giddy or what?" Vanessa asked.

"Damn! Kevin is too fine!" Catherine said, as the dark-haired Kevin Richardson entered the room. Vanessa suddenly felt self-conscious. She looked down at her baggy jeans and button-down white shirt. Her hand flew to her dark, curly hair.

"You look fine," Catherine whispered. The guys waved to Vanessa and Catherine as they came in, but went to meet the younger girls first. They spent about an hour signing the girls' memoribilia and posing for pictures.

At one point, about 15 minutes after they had come in, Kevin walked towards Vanessa and Catherine, but was beat by Brian.

"Hey! You must be Greg's friends," Brian said. "I'm Brian Littrell."

"Catherine McCoy," Catherine said. "And it's nice to meet you."

"Vanessa Anderson," Vanessa said. "Nice to meet you."

"Same here," Brian said. "We're gonna attend to our younger fans first, then we'll give you a tour and everything."

"Great," Catherine said. "See ya then!"

Brian kind of hopped over to the crowd on the other side of the room. The young girls were all flustered and extremely excited to be meeting their idols. Nick and Brian took each of the girls on piggy-back rides, and Kevin, Howie, and AJ each gave the girls flowers.

"How do they have the energy?" Catherine marvelled, as she watched Brian and Nick race around. Vanessa couldn't seem to keep her eyes off Kevin.

Each of the girls left dazzled. The parents seem grateful that the group had lavished so much attention on all of the girls.

As the last girl left, Kevin loped over to Catherine and Vanessa, stuck out his hand toward Vanessa, and said, "Hey, I'm Kevin Richardson."

"Vanessa Anderson," she responded.

"Nice to meet you Vanessa," Kevin said, with his deep voice, that was laced with a southern accent.

"Same here," Vanessa said. As Catherine elbowed her, she said, "This is Catherine McCoy."

"Nice to meet you Catherine," Kevin said. "Are you Greg's sister."

The other guys came over to meet the girls. AJ's hair was a bright shade of orange and Vanessa couldn't keep from commenting on it.

"That's a nice shade of orange AJ," she said.

"Why thank you," AJ said. "Now we have two options. We can one, take you on a basic tour of the stage, or two, you let us get changed and we can go clubbing."

"Lets go clubbing!" Catherine exclaimed.

"A girl after my own heart," AJ said.

"Are there any 18-and-older around?" Kevin asked. "For Nick?"

"Of course," Catherine replied.

"Great!" Brian said. "We're gonna get down and shake our groove thang!"

"Thank God it's a little while before our next tour stop," Howie commented. "Brian tends to get hurt when he shakes his "groove thang"."

The guys all laughed, and Brian yelled, "I do not!"

"Oh wait. You're right. You hurt everyone else," Howie laughed.

"Shut up! Lets just go get changed," Brian said. "We'll be right back."
