Chapter Eight: Forgive and Forget

Brian knocked on Dallas' door. She answered wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Brian said, "I hope you weren't serious about never wanting to see me again."

Dallas blushed. "Of course not."

She let him in and they both sat on her couch. Neither of them knew how to start. Brian took off the cap he was wearing and fiddled with it.

"Dallas, I-" Brian started. "Kev told me about what happened when, I mean, you know, when..."

"We broke up," Dallas said.

"Yeah, and I just want to, you know, say I...I'm really sorry," Brian stuttered.

Dallas stared at him. "You don't need to apologize. Steve is the only one who was wrong."

Brian breathed a sigh of relief. "Yeah, well, I should have at least asked you. Showed a little more faith. Part of me hoped you'd come after me."

"I was hurt," Dallas said quietly.

"And confused?" Brian asked.

"You could definitely say that," Dallas said

"So it was a misunderstanding," Brian said.

"Yeah. But it was probably meant to happen," Dallas said. "Because Kev said you were gonna propose and I know I would've said yes. You probably never would have become a Backstreet Boy."

Brian grinned. "You always did look for that silver lining. I've missed that. I've missed you."

"I've missed you too," Dallas said. "I used to hope you'd come back all the time, then I lost some of that hope after awhile. But there was always a glimmer until..."

"I was such a jerk," Brian finished.

"You were just hurt," Dallas said. "A reopening of old wounds."

"How can you be so understanding?" Brian asked.

"I want to understand you," Dallas responded.

"And would you understand if I said I wanted another chance with you?" Brian asked.

"I'd understand," Dallas said. "And I'd said I want the same thing."

"Yeah?" Brian asked.

"Yeah," Dallas said.

Brian leaned over and gently kissed Dallas. It was like coming home and knowing he had been gone too long.

"I'm glad we ran into each other," Brian said.
