![]() Pooh 30 September 1993 - 21 January 2003 When Pooh joined our family in September of 1995, he was as fiesty as anyone might expect a 2-year-old bunny to be, and then some. Pooh had dominion over the basement, running through the areas with a stuffed sock in his mouth. At one point, the sock had a bell on it, but he decided he didn't like the bell because it gave away where he was, so he ripped the bell off and hid it. To this day, we have never found that bell. Over time, Pooh became known as our "Bunny with a 'Tude". If someone was sitting on the couch, he would jump up from the floor on to the seat of the couch, run across the person's lap, jump up to the back of the couch, run across the back and kick the person in the head, hop down to the seat of the couch, and continue the circle until he got tired. If you happened to be eating anything, he would stop behind your head, sniff out what you were eating, and crawl down on to your shoulder until you gave him a bite of what you were eating. This is how we came to learn that the "Poohs-man" liked not carrots and lettuce, but apples, chips, pretzels, Cheerios, grapes, peaches, oatmeal cookies, and plums. Pooh moved upstairs into the kitchen when we bought him a new, bigger cage - he had outgrown his "baby cage". He could hop in and out of his cage freely on to the carpet in front of his cage. Every once in awhile, you might be in another room and hear a little "clicka-clacka" on the linoleum. That was our Poohsie, sneaking across the floor to run through the house. He ran up and down stairs like there was no tomorrow. There would be many mornings when I would wake up for school in my room on the top floor of the house and see my bunny waiting patiently for me to wake up. I would carry him downstairs, but he would be back waiting for me when I got out of the shower. Nothing deterred Pooh from getting what he wanted, even pancakes! Pooh learned to "whine" and beg for attention. When we sat at the dining room table for dinner, he would hop to the edge of his carpet, snort to get our attention, and stand on his back hocks to beg for food or attention. He usually got both. Pooh had his routines, and would stomp his feet and turn his back on you if his routine was changed. Weekday mornings, when Dad got up for work, he would come in to give Pooh some O's (Cheerios) before he took his shower. When Adam or I got ready for school, we would give Pooh some more treats. When Mom got ready for work, she would come in and talk with Pooh, then give him some treats. Monday and Thursday nights, we would watch wrestling. Pooh would stretch out on the floor and watch TV with us, but most of the time, he liked to lay on Adam's back and watch. Sometimes he would walk up and down Adam's back as a masseuse, then dig his nails into Adam's back just for fun. Saturdays during football season, we watched Penn State. During basketball season, Pooh listened to Dad (The Big Guy) yell and scream about some Hoosiers. But his favorite team was his Momma's team, the Raiders. Poohsie was black and white, close enough to silver and black, and he had a 'tude. He got an apple before Raiders games to help them win. He was more reliable than Sebastian Janikowski during the '02 regular season. :) On Sunday mornings, Dad would wake up, take Pooh onto the porch, give him some O's, and sit and read the paper and have his coffee. On Sunday afternoons, Adam and I would take Pooh into the yard and let him run around, hopping through the grass, digging in the flower beds and tomato garden. I found out this evening (1/23/03) that my rabbit had passed on. The things listed above are all things he had been unable to do in the past year. He still loved to be held. I would lie on the couch and prop him up against my shoulder. He showed his appreciation by licking my cheek. In the 7+ years that he was part of our family, he wrapped himself around our hearts. Picturing life without The Poohs-man isn't easy in the least. He passed on in his sleep, while I was 200 miles away, Dad was at work, Adam was at class, and Mom was sleeping. Adam came home from class to find him. Services were held that afternoon, as Pooh was laid to rest with his stuffed Pooh Bear, pictures of his family, and a selection of his favorite treats. We all love you, Pooh, and we treasure our memories with you. The Big Guy The Momma The Gurl and Boy
