The Evening Chronical: Millennium Tour Review!
Thanks to someone for sending this in!
It could easily have been a scene from Star Wars. To rapturous applause
and stupendous screams, the Backstreet Boys arrived on the stage from
above
on a surf board, clad in space armour, to the theme from, yes, Star Wars.
It's been two years since the lads last played Newcastle and, since
then,
just like the stars of that famed series of sci-fi films, their fame has
gone into orbit.
The show started with Larger Than Life, the lead-off song from their
latest album, and the gig was performed in the round with a central
revolving platform raising them high above the crowd for some numbers, and
then down beneath the stage for frequent, colourful costume changes.
Their repertoire ranged from sing-along favourites Quit Playin' Games
and
I'll Never Break Your heart to Everybody (Backstreet's Back), with it's
famous dance routine, and The Perfect Fan, written by Brian as a tribute
to
his mother, which was the cue for several fans to get up on stage with
their
mums.
The fans went wild when the five boys swung out on harnesses above the
crowds, reaching down to touch outstretched hands. Proving themselves to be more than your average "boy band", they sang
live
throughout, even during the complicated dance routines, and ended the show
with their number one single, I Want It That Way.
,br> An outstanding performance by a band with immense talent - the same of
which can be said of support act Tatyana Ali, who was top-notch, singing
her hits Boy You Knock Me Out and Everytime.
Yes, Backstreet's back, for sure.
